Seems like a possible same day launch of Bluray players and PS3. prices seem a bit steep though, maybe this is where HD-DVD may grab an advantage.

1.Will Sony's new video gaming system coming out next year (presumably with Blu-Ray) be able to play the new high def DVDs?
2.I assume the gaming system will be nowhere near the $1300 price mentioned above.

1. Yes it will and it is scheduled to debut nearly at the same time as the Blu-ray in June of 006.
2. No price yet, they're throwing around $500 - $1000.

Is it at all true that this could happen?

I've thought for a while that it'd make all the sense in the world to do a simultaneous launch in the US and Japan in the Summer. I could see them delaying till June, but the payoff ought to be more territories.

I guarantee you this. In 1 year, if the PS3 is on shelves for $500-$1000, I will be buying an HDTV if I have that kind of money. I had to really justify spending $400 for the XBOX 360 and I am very glad I did.

I do not see Sony releasing the PS3 for more than $400. Anything more would be foolish.

Well in the US spring is like March 21 - June 21, so it wouldn't be a delay really.

I'm with this guy. I didn't even buy a 360 because it doesn't look worth 400 bucks yet. I sure as hell won't be paying more than 400 for anything. If Sony launches the PS3 at 500+, MS is gonna win the generation.

Don't the stand-alone BR players have some feature the PS3 won't? I don't want to say BD-R, but I think that was it.

We've know for a long time that the stand-alone players would be super expensive, even compared to the PS3. I know this has already been discussed.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if the initial price for the PS3 in Japan its first few months was upwards of 8,0000 yen, but only if it does actually launch there around June. Still, that'd shock me.

Still can't even imagining the PS3 hitting American shores until October or November at the earliest.
