I see more and more games implement selecting body type 1 or 2 instead of male and female. In some games I don't really care about it but in a role playing game I think it is important I know the sex of my character even if it does not match visually with the body. I wonder what you guys think about this, if anything at all?

Needless pandering to a marginal but extremely vocal minority that more often than not aren't even your actual end users and act in bad faith? No thanks.
 
I don't really care, but I'm fine with "body type". Gives more options than the same male/female, but with a different inclusive name slapped on. Just need devs to add more body types..

like Halo Infinite has 3 body types, but they could do with more variety.
 
I don't care, but both are a binary choice so it probably offends someone somewhere. Just make they game you want.
 
Its needly complicating things, when I was reading the latest D2 update they kept talking about two different body types for the Barb and I was like "Sweet maybe I can make a skinny barb instead of just a muscle man!" but no they were meaning what I would call the male and female body types.
 
Yeah i saw this in Demon Souls Remake and CP77. Disgusting. There's only two genders Male and Female dont let them tell you otherwise.

Dumb dumbs like you are the reason why we have SJWs. No there's no "2 genders", there are 2 sexes (in fact it's more complicated, but mostly 2 sexes) and genders are completely different.

I swear to god, whenever you think some SJWs crazies are going to far into convoluted pseudo-scientific twisting, there the dumb dumb of the village to remind you that we can't settle that debate easily since there are still some incredibly ignorant and dumb crusts.

It makes me chuckle that they just do this when localising for the U.S but often keep it as Boy/Girl in other languages and regions, but the folks who kick off about this are idiots and think they somehow changed the world with their alphabet nonsense. Sure sure, have your stupid version of the game and tell yourself that.

This is the crux of the matter. The male/female split is completely fine for all but the rarest of cases, and presenting a male and female split as anything but can't come across as anything but pandering. It won't be seen as a valiant effort to re-educate people on the error of identifying sexes, it will be identified as male and female by everyone anyway because everyone knows what the two body types in this context are.

It's such a non-issue that I can't help but think people who push for it are the trolls of the modern age

I don't know, depends on the on context, if it's a space alien games, probably body type, otherwise Male and Female. I don't think that biological sex is offensive, because the talks are mainly for a gender, not sex. So meh.

I think Cyberpunk have good vision, but bad execution, but I also saw amazing creation in Demons Souls remake.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis uses body types, but what's weird is that cosmetics are still gender locked to 1 or 2 lol. It's a half-assed attempt to appease woke Western bullshit, probably because Microsoft bankrolled the Western versions of PSO2.
 
In RPGs with a create a character I think the more customization options the better. If people want to mix and match body parts or gendered aspects of characters I think that's cool. I don't know why anyone would want less choices.

Tbh this is the thing that goes unchallenged too much.

Gender is a grammatical concept that largely mirrors the two sexes (with the addition of a neutral) OR it is a synonym for sex.

The gender and sex are different crowd use a meaningless distinction as cover to justify all sorts of deconstructionist nonsense. It should be challenged. How are sex and gender different, in a meaningful way?

Gender = Social construct

So the obvious solution is to simply use "Sex" instead of "Gender".

And if people are still confused about their biology then go for leaving the suffix XX or XY to signify the Chromosome bundle pack they were born with.

I'm sure pso2 uses body type 1 or 2, I thought nothing off it though.
Didn't even cross my mind it was referencing male or female lol
 
couldnt care less

im playing an asian woman in zombie army 4 and it doesnt phase me a bit. they could be genderless or genderfluid or whatever the kids are calling it these days. it makes zero difference to me what character im playing as and what they look like or identify as.
 
They did this on iPhones recently and now I just have to go through voice 1-4 to figure out what's what. It's just a bit more annoying, and seems excessive for the very few people that would be upset by it.
 
Body Type should be an option to select different types of body, like: tall, short, slim, fat, muscular and so on.... Not the sex of the character, that's the first choice that the game should give to the player.

Japanese games usually have the best character creators, Monster Hunter World and Nioh 2 are way above everything else in my opinion and they are just like that.

If anything I find it to be quite comical.

We've got these words "male" and "female" and what we are trying to do is use "body type 1" or "body type 2" in their stead.
You'd have to think that over time they would just replace "male" and "female".
There's not functional difference between "I prefer women" and "I prefer people with B Type bodies". Just that "male" and "female" come with historical baggage.
So in the end we'd all be talking about Type As and Type Bs in the future. Oh my god Jack is such a typical Type A!

Subconsciously people know what's what anyway.
 
I noticed this in the diablo IV dev diary, body type... I find it stupid and confusing.

I don't get the social construct argument.

I've always understood gender to be more of a representation of the mind/brain. If gender is a social construct, wouldn't it mean transgender is a fictitious concept that has no place in science, ultimately meaning there's no use being transgender? That obviously isn't the case.

If we take the viewpoint that body developmental issues (gender dysphoria) result in a different "Mind sex" and "Body sex", gender is devalued as a concept except as this decade's explanation for being tomboy etc.

If I've missed something, please fill in the gaps. Social construct is a common phrase, but for me it asks more questions than it answers
