I tried Riders Republic today and there was this exact problem.

You can't really make a male male, but can't make a female female either. They all share the same haircut, you can put a beard on the "female" body, there are only like 2 or 3 long (long meaning not shaved or super short) haircuts out of 20, most of the female (body type A) faces look wrong, too masculine, and faces for male (type B) have the opposite problem.
So you can basically only make some kind of weird inbetween, they mostly share the same settings and only the body shape change.

It's ridiculous, wasn't able to make a regular looking female character.

WTF is Body type 1 or 2? Why not put the body type on a slider with 16 million possible values, every value being attributed a gender from Helicopter all the way to Mice I guess (with separate sliders for hips, shoulders, genitalia size — in or out, etc.) and avoid the discussion altogether if it makes you so uncomfortable, or scared, to put the right words on it.

If I was to know a game calls genders 1 and 2 I would assume the devs are too stupid to call a cat an elephant when they see one and would not be able to bring myself to play the game in case I was to dead name an npc or something.

Look at the new "definition"... However, gender is an almost certain indicator of sex, I mean if people believe in global warming and that astronauts walked on the mood we should not have to debate about gender being equal to sex, this is probably the most certain thing in biology.

Also, in the current society what it means to be a man or a woman is pretty flexible to begin with, anyone can work, anyone can do chores, etc. guys can go with other guys, girls can go with other girls, etc. What's the point of a transition if the person wants to play the role of a woman when we have spent so many years telling our daughters to be more like men and enter in direct competition for what was previously mostly male "roles" (to be clear, I am 100% for removing barriers for people to end up fulfilling their dreams, etc. I'm just not for lowering the bar or setting quotas for gender/race/whatever, so I think these barriers are mostly off by now, there is no down side to having everybody know you are gay at the office these days).

Took me quite a while to realize it was sex gated, which is ironically even more offensive than just labeling them male and female as it suggests masculine presenting folx can't wear womens clothing and vice versa. I still have no idea whether A or B is male or female, so it makes item lists much more difficult to interpret.

We've got these words "male" and "female" and what we are trying to do is use "body type 1" or "body type 2" in their stead.
You'd have to think that over time they would just replace "male" and "female".
There's not functional difference between "I prefer women" and "I prefer people with B Type bodies". Just that "male" and "female" come with historical baggage.
So in the end we'd all be talking about Type As and Type Bs in the future. Oh my god Jack is such a typical Type A!

My longtime friend is a psychiatrist and obviously due to the nature of his job, he has to be a bit more grounded in his opinions in front of patients. And people wonder why anyone coming out of school that paid attention gets confused when people start saying Gender is different to Sex. This is a very recent phenomenon within the use of language, I believe it involved finding some vague usage within French that describes a type of servant as gender that everyone jumped on to make this claim that its a social construct while ignoring its primary usage in English. In other languages there's actually not a separate word from sex at all.

personally I would have created a new word like "intervale" to describe it rather than hijack an old established one and keep saying loudly that it's diffrent. Taken from the Latin word internus and valetudo I think it would fit well with the intended usage of the word.
