Anyway, it got me to thinking about the retards that say that handhelds shouldn't or can't have games as deep as their console brethren.
I play my GBA more than any other system now, and while I don't agree with the above statement, what is true is that "handhelds
do not have games as deep as their console brethren". As much as I'd love to believe otherwise, most of them, even ones I love, have been simplified, shortened, etc on the trip to portable.
There are, however, some stellar-GBA only games like Advance Wars.
Boktai 2 seems a heckuva lot deeper and bigger than any SNES action RPG I've played. Same goes for Golden Sun 2, Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion and even Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
aRPGs - Chaos Seed is a deep, complex "aRPG" on the SFC that emphasizes strategy over stealth or puzzles. Also try the SS upgrade.
RPGs - Sorry. I'd take Chrono Trigger over Golden Sun garbage anyday. I'd pick MMBN over GS personally, cuz at least Capcom had a flash of brilliance on that one.... and then proceeded to drive it into the ground with countless sequels. It's the Capcom way, right?
SRPGs - Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together & Front Mission >>>>>>> FFTA.
The best GBA games are easily as good or better than their SNES equivalents.
No, the best GBA games are easily better than the average SNES game. But there are occasional instances where it can run with the best of them.
Don't misinterpret what I'm saying. I believe the GBA is the savior of 2D gaming, which is why I play it so much. But it sure ain't perfect, as long as developers continue to treat the portable market as subpar.
