Can't imagine the security ramifications that will arise from this tragedy. They're speculating that whoever did this brought in the devices after the bomb-sniffing dogs already passed through the area. There really is no way to ensure 100% security over such a large area with so many people coming and going over the course of several hours.

Probably complete removal of any closed containers from future marathons.

Beyond that, what can do you? We can't catch them all. There's always going to be events that bunch a ton of people up into one location.

She's an ICU nurse. They say need as much help as possible as some staff live further out than we do. They know she can get to work within the hour. Her best friends husband got called in too (Fire Fighter) and told him to expect to be working Off and Ons (12 hour shifts) for a least 2-3 days. Aunt almost always goes to this, surprised and glad she didn't this year.

And my thanks! daughter finally calmed down a bit too, thankfully.

So watching the local news, there is tons of coverage. I can tell you that the explosions occurred at the finish line of the marathon near the grandstands for spectators. There were two definite explosions within seconds of one another at that location. There have been a few more "controlled explosions" which was some officials destroying "suspicious" devices. The current common understanding is that there were multiple back-pack devices. Cell phone service is being shut down (to prevent causing other devices to go off accidentally or with purpose). And that area if the city is being shut down.

This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Two bombs detonated within 15 seconds of each other by the finish of the Boston Marathon, two deaths confirmed so far and I dunno how many injuries. That's pretty much everything that's 100% confirmed, and there's been a whole manner of suspect devices and suspicious bags popping up. We're still at the "what the hell is going on" stage.
