Boogie Nights

So I just got around to see this for the first time since my initial watch, which was almost 30 years ago.

And yes, I made The Big Lebowski thread from a couple of weeks ago too.

I'm just trying to watch things I think I remember liking in the past, but only saw once. I really liked The Big Lebowski, but I think this film is even better. It doesn't hurt that it has a cast that's absolutely stellar.

I just feel like every scene is incredible. Even when they don't technically transition perfectly into each other, but that feels intentional. Everything about this film seems masterfully shot. The scene where PSH tries to show Marky Mark his car, and the reaction after the kiss, just great storytelling. And how we stick with him in car beating himself up.

Just a fantastic film and I hope this thread gets some of you to watch it again. It's worth it.

And it's always great looking at Juliane Moore.

I don't think I'd label it a comedy. I think it's more of a drama.

Kind of like how's some think First Blood is an action movie, when it's more of a drama.

Aye, definitely not a comedy.

Amazing movie, equally funny in some parts, sad and depressive in others.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was amazing in this, shame that we lost such a great actor

I've only seen this once, and it was ~20 years ago. Granted, I've seen certain Julianne Moore and Heather Graham scenes from it more than I can count on one hand. And I can't count it on two hands because one's preoccupied.

I liked Boogie Nights but it's not my favorite of his. Thomas Jane killed it though, he's such a underrated actor

I still consider There Will Be Blood, Magnolia and Phantom Thread his best works

When it comes to the rest of his films, I consider all of them either bad or just good

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next. I didn't like One Battle After Another but every film he's made has been super unique

First and only time I've seen this was coming home from a night out about 20 years ago and this was just starting on the TV. A fantastic watch. I've been meaning to check it out again.

This and There Will Be Blood are my favorite PTA films. I probably watch Boogie Nights at least 2x a year. Such perfect casting, pacing, writing, music. I never get tired of it.

"You know what this says? It says 'HI fidelity'. It means the stereo has the highest fidelity."
Thanks to BN for introducing me to such great actors like Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Don Cheadle. It also briefly resuscitated Burt Reynolds' career (in a time where this was the in thing after Tarantino did it for Travolta). I believe he got the Golden Globe for his performance and got an Oscar nod as well.

Young Thomas Jane as Todd Parker was classic too

Whew, thought this was gonna be an announcement of a remake or something, and was preparing myself for some hot trans action or whatever they would take the story today :P

edit: Someone add a LTTP to the title, that's wat it is for! :P

My bad. I'll do that next time. I'm loving my time revisiting classics and reading others replies.

Fun fact: Burt Reynolds hated Boogie Nights, and really didn't enjoy working with PTA.

The firecracker scene was one of my favorites. I was high AF when I saw that and kept laughing and rewinding it.:messenger_grinning_squinting:
It also helped that Night Ranger was playing Sister Christian.
