feel free to jump on me and tell me im an asshole, but .. we always hear the "we won't be intimidated/terrorized" type rhetoric at these times. but we've got a whole city of people remaining inside because of one crazy dude out there .. wouldn't that fall under that intimidated/terrorized category

im just spitballing here, dont kill me.

Staying inside when there has been frequent gunplay and there's an ongoing manhunt is prudent. Canceling the Boston Mathon next year would be giving in to terror.

There's a diffrence between cowering in fear and staying out of the way so the cops can catch a bad guy.

Welllll.....you're right. But it's the hopeful sentiment about it that's being emphasized.

"We shall rise" and whatnot.

And this

So I went to sleep and 7 hours later, they still haven't found him? If he is injured, I'd imagine he's either dead or dying somewhere or he was able to get with accomplices who fixed him up and hid him.

There's a difference between safety and being scared at unneeded times.

Hmm. Might those people be in their homes because they were asked to stay in their homes by the authorities? Keeping safe isn't the same thing as being intimidated or terrorized...

This, and it's why I can't blame them for canceling postponing the Comic Con. Too soon, suspect at large, and who knows what could happen if he wants another big event and isn't dead in a ditch somewhere. It's not even like 9/11 that required huge planes and took the terrorists out with them.

Fox has always been the best at live, developing stories. Their commentary just sucks and people confuse the two.

It's absolutely true (of the major networks, that is). A few years ago when I would still watch them, I'd say even their midday and nightly news was the best of any of the major networks. (It was just the events, not the pundits.) I stopped watching though, so I can't say whether that's still the case.

If he really wanted to fuck with us, that kid should climb into a big garbage dumpster and shoot himself. If the body was not discovered and ended buried in a landfill, we'd all be wondering for years WTF happened to him.

Of course, there is a good chance the body would be discovered though by the smell or by some sanitation worker.

My guess is he's dead somewhere, or managed to slip out before the perimeters were established. But they seemed so sure he was in that 20 block radius of Watertown.

But can they apply that "a suspect will escape" to ALL homes within an entire community/neighborhood? Wouldn't a scope that wide basically make it an unlimited or unrestrained power?

I'm not a lawyer so I couldn't say. Just pointing out what the internet tells me. Exigency has to take into account the scope of danger, the urgency with which you need to find the suspect, the danger the suspect poses (considerable in this case), and a number of other factors. Given that they're assuming he has explosive devices on his person and the crimes he's alleged to have committed in addition to the crimes of last night the search of homes in the area it sounds like it would easily fall within the law.

Lawyer-GAF could tell you better than I.

FBI Most Wanted lists exist for a reason. I think it's highly unlikely that this kid could escape capture for very long on his own, but it's not unheard of.

Yup. Even if he gets out of town I doubt he'll make it out of the country.

Question, is there a reason they are so certain he is in Waterton? I'm guessing he fled there last night but why do they thing he just stopped?

He escaped on foot, the thought was that he couldn't have gotten far.

The whole city has been on lockdown, so it would be noticed if someone left in a car.

He had 12 hours to get out out the city by foot, the city aint that large. In 12 hours he could had gotten out.

Not to speak for everyone, but as someone who spent the day inside because they asked us to, I wasn't really worried, just thought I'd stay out of the way and off the roads. I spent some of the day watching the news, and some of it doing other things, like barbecuing some ribs.

I'm sure a lot of people were scared, but a lot of us are just trying to stay out of the way.
