Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

This GAF thread does not equate the world. I'm sorry to sound condescending but, although no women wearing Hijabs have been attacked here on this thread, they are in the real world, and whilst bigoted comments are moderated on this thread, they are not in the real world. I am not talking about anyone here; I'm talking about the people who I've encountered over the last 10 years, people you can find yourself in seconds via social media to see the volume of their hatred.

So you are demanding conversations conform to your standards for what you consider appropriate references to Islam or Muslims based entirely on your personal anecdotal experiences? That is fairly ridiculous. Why should your personal experiences, or even the random unequal bigotry or violence exhibited towards muslims dictate how in-context and factually relevant usage and references to muslims or Islam are used, or even if they are allowed within polite conversations at all?

That those things happen by people around the world doesn't necessitate a response to any legitimate references involving muslims that attempts to restrict all references to Islam or its adherents as some kind of "solution"

The question is, if there are at least a vocal group of people who had such venom based on their stereotypes, should such stereotypes be fuelled by identifying these individuals primarily as "Muslims" before they even give us their names? The point I'm making is that referring to them as "Muslims" in such a context, to many, goes beyond just merely telling us of their religious background; it says "Muslims killed people because they were Muslim". This type of irresponsible language shouldn't come from a respected media outlet.

If you cant understand that point, if not agree with me, then we live in different worlds my friend
No, what referencing their apparent religion does is give the most assumably relevant reason for the apparent terrorist actions they have taken. Given the real and current lack of information, and certainly lack of any other legitimate reasons for their resorting to terrorism, we can infer certain things about specific attackers and attacks based on the apparent religion of attackers and the large history of Islamic terror attacks. That you want to disallow references to that to resolve old problems or supposedly fix future ones is intellectually disingenuous, and illegitimate in a relatively open and free society founded on the ideal of free and open speech.

One of the things that I've learned from this episode is that the internet and news media can't be trusted in any serious situation.

For those who actually been watching all night, how did he get a way? It is impossible for a common criminal to get away drop cops in pursuit, let alone this guy
One guy got out, got shot a lot (see OP), other one maybe drove over him, most certainly drove away.

In the dead of night the cops decided not to chase and just section off this part of the city.

I go to sleep for 2 hours and I miss a ton of stuff. Looks like things are coming to an end though. P.S. Here's a little advice for the father, you can probably forego the line "My son is a true angel" when talking about the murderer of an 8 year old child.

Not all media can, but there certainly still is news out there that tries to verify news and not just run with the first they see in hope of breaking some news, those news medias however don't exactly reach many headlines...

The internet? Well of course armchair detectives can't be trusted, it's just silly speculation at that point, but it still got its uses.

i'm guessing he meant "I thought my son was..." or w/e
or maybe he's in denial, think they have the wrong person?

Unfortunately without live coverage NBC Channel 7 is now talking to people who went to high school with him, the most valuable of all news sources. At least this girl actually hung out with the guy.

@WGRZ: Police source: 2 Russian nationals pulled over in Niagara Falls; 4 suspicious backpacks in the car, robot & bomb techs on scene.

Paranoia in a lot of cases now. The U.S. is on edge despite all the 'we won't let it affect us' speeches. It's normal though. Going to take a while before things settle down, even after the suspects are detained/dead.
