Boston: One dead, one captured, city re-opened

I don't think Reddit comes out of this looking great. 12 hours ago people were saying "OMG Reddit is the new FBI, world will never be the same" when the Brown U story they started was getting traction. In the cold light of day, how are they any better than CNN?

What's sad about this is how far you had to lower the bar for CNN to even make the comparison. Even at the lowered standard, CNN has been absolutely dreadful.

That is his twitter. I looked at comments related to his followers. There was a guy claiming there is no way it was him.

No sorry, that is bullshit. The police never said that on scanners. Would be happy to be proven wrong if someone provides a recording, but we were all listening to the same thing

This is wrong too. This is the 3rd thread discussing the chase/manhunt

It was on the police scanners before this most recent shootout. Before this very thread existed. This is why most people ran with it. Not many people were sitting around listening to scanners prior to last nights events. I was in the fucking thread.

I was listening prior, then left, and then the shootout happened and came back and got a link to a new scanner from the thread about what just happened.

You know some bigwig at CNN is sitting with a big smile on his face.

Because ratings are probably the highest they've been in a long time.

Close friends and maybe some relatives will probably be in disbelief still. What if someone you knew well from Muslim-GAF was said to have been a suspect of a terrorist attack? I wonder how many here would believe it, and how many would dismiss it

Of course they have no credibility! It's an internet discussion forum, with a bunch of random people participating in what functionally amounts to a real life ARG. They're not the FBI, will never be the FBI, and anyone writing about them as such should just hang up their pen.

Hammer hits nail on head

Suspended disbelief and then anger. Anger at the possibility.

We were all listening to the scanner before this thread existed. They never said the name. You can go back to when that one redittor first made the claim and we all called BS at the time. Your article only supports that the police never made that link

They need to do a controlled explosion on something they found. Doing a home by home search and probably finding all sorts of illegal shit.

how come they havent caught him yet? is he holding someone hostage in a house?

How would police know if somebody is kept hostage?

Man even the CNN website sucks, I want to read the article about the MIT Officer that was killed but everything links back to their timeline

They'll find him. He's a 19 year old with nowhere to run. It's only a matter of time before he turns up.

The fact that he doesn't have a plan (in theory) may make it even harder to find him. It's like when Hester on the Bears was scoring all those kickoff touchdowns by just running around like a madman.

Yes, I'm making a football analogy here.

Where are you seeing it was on police scanners before this thread existed? The article doesn't say that.

Who wouldn't have started the story without all the hysteria and viral dissemination of the images, but hey whatever helps you sleep at night.

Whose responsibility do you think it is to make sure something reported is accurate? You're basically saying all press outlets who reported those images are in the clear because "Reddit made me do it!"
