"This is boxing, I am not going to punch him much, this is boxing."

Every single time, GGG repeats that he was holding back.

It was a super close fight and the knockdown was the difference. If you think this is a robbery, how did you like your first boxing telecast?

Lol, yo for real.

I called it way up on top before the call. Ward and Kovalev all over again. Ultra close fight.

Danny Jacobs has nothing to be upset about. Dude was able to shut GGG down for a good 5 rounds.

I have an announcement to make:

CANELO VS GGG WILL NEVER HAPPEN

LOL at calling this a robbery. If you are, you better have the same opinion about Ward-Kov because this was just as close. How the fuck can you watch this fight, look at the punch stats, and call robbery?

HBO wasnt gonna let Danny fuck up that Canelo vs Golovkin pay day

HBO has been desperate to turn GGG into a draw but it hasn't happened. WIll be interesting to see what these PPV numbers look like, but I feel like GGG needed a spectacular KO to get Canelo's camp interested. AFter this performance, a rematch between GGG and DJ makes the most sense. Keep in mind GGG is 34 years old. It's possible he only has a couple peak years left. The window for him to become a huge star has probably closed.

I enjoyed the fight. I still think Golovkin knocks out Canelo.

Nah, I think De La Hoya jumps on the fight while Golovkin is undefeated, and his confidence is low and looks beatable.

It's about the draw power. With May retired (for now) Canelo is probably legitimately the biggest draw in the sport. He is going to do massive business fighting a fucking scrub with a name in a couple months. Yes, a GGG/Canelo fight would make big money, but how much of that is going to be attributed to Gennady? Considering the legitimate risk he poses, GGG has to show that he is a legitimate draw, and can add considerable numbers to a PPV card, in order to get Canelo's camp interested and make it worth the risk to them. This has always been the issue.

I feel like the fight is still one that Canelo has everything to lose and very little to gain from financially. Beating GGG after a close win like this wouldn't be worth the risk of GGG destroying Canelo. I don't think the fight is going to happen.

GGG was the overwhelming favorite, people were making insane comparisons to Marvin Hagler. GGG's resume is extremely thin despite people rating him in the top 2 P4P. Jacbos is a good fighter, not a great fighter, and still got exposed.

Ward would've boxed circles around Golovkin.

Yeah. I know some people around me, including my older brother, who overrated GGG. I sort of saw his weakness when he boxes. He opens himself too much and he is slow to start and through the rest of the rounds. Give GGG somebody with speed, power, and iq and GGG will have massive trouble like tonight. Jacobs will definitely come back stronger and smarter.

If there will be a rematch, I give it to Jacobs because he has tasted GGG's power and he knows how GGG fights. It is always on the loser to come back stronger and smarter. In this case, it is true. I think Jacobs is smart enough and good enough to get a win for the rematch. For GGG's case, they really underestimated Jacobs and they won't repeat the same mistakes tonight.

For now, Goldenboy really seems like they want their chances against GGG now, lol.

I missed this fight. But GGG didn't look to good in his last fight against Brook. Did Golovkin look lethargic in this fight?

Not initially, but Jacob's worked the body when in the pocket and allowed his hands to fly more often. By round 5 or 6 he was the more active man, even if most rounds Golovkin had the higher connect percentage. Jacob's was definitely up by one by the time the fight ended imo. Guess the KD in round 4 hurt his chances

Certainly no boxing expert, but GGG seemed like he was less willing to open himself up to taking a shot from Jacobs. Jacobs was clearly heavier and absorbed some strikes he might not have been able to take 10 pounds lighter.

Thought GGG won that, albeit narrowly.

In general I agree, but they've put the fight off long enough. If Canelo gets past Chavez Jr as expected, expect Canelo vs Golovkin.

Golovkin is known for not having a good defense, a good chin maybe. He's known for going forward. From what I've read, seems as though Jacobs manages to somewhat successfully outbox GGG. This is the first time Golovkin has gone the distance, right?

GGG vs Canelo is the Winds of Winter of Boxing.

You think it's coming, when in reality it's not even close to being done.

The reasons it's been put off still exist. If anything they are more pronounced now. It's not just about making the "fair" matchup, or even the most logical matchup. It's 100% about money.

punch stats arent that accurate. it was close till late rounds, you can clearly see jacobs took rounds 11 and 12 with ease.

Compubox is literally a dude pressing a button. GGG looked frustrated and uncomfortable all night. This isn't the worst decision ever but the c'mon

Like Danny Garcia and Rod Salka?

I realize that, but they can't keep putting off the fight forever, and now's a good time to strike because a lot of people are going to believe Canelo can actually beat Golovkin after his performance tonight and will want to pay to watch. They're wrong, because Canelo doesn't stand a chance. Plus Golden Boy have delayed going on for 2 years and there's only so much you can push the fans, especially in a division that Canelo has already cleaned up and has moved up to fight Chavez Jr.

I'd be very surprised if the fight doesn't happen, and I expect a backlash from fans.

I forgot about Canelo Vs GGG. Thought this was happening in the spring of 2017 (obviously not) did Canelo get hurt or am I making up shit in my old age?

I realize that, but they can't keep putting off the fight forever,.

so long as Canelo keeps on bringing in boatloads of money fighting literally anybody else, they can do exactly that. Or just follow the Money/Paq blueprint and wait until GGG is past his prime (probably only 2-3 years away from that).

This is easily as close as Kovalev-Ward. Just curious: do you think that's a robbery too?

For me I got to rewatch the fight and score it, because I realize I was probably subconsciously rooting for the underdog since he was surprisingly performing well and I might've given him more credit in some rounds than he deserved. Can't wait to watch next week and see how I score it.

The difference though was welterweight was stacked with talent. Canelo's no longer a junior middleweight, so who's he going to fight at middleweightb on PPV besides Golovkin? You're crazy if you think Canelo is going to be going down in weight after fighting Chavez at 164.

Nope, thought Ward won.

Ward vs Kovalev was easy to score. Ward simply took over at the second half and won consecutive rounds.

GGG couldn't get anything going and looked frustrated that Jacobs could take his punches

Boxing isn't about fighting who is next in line though. It's about who you can make the most money against. They can find anybody to fight him, Canelo is the draw. For fucks sake, do you honestly think Chavez Jr is deserving? Or is he getting this fight because of his name?
