Boycotting EA...

It's a good thing EA achieved this dominance by getting every last sale for their brand. I mean, with such overwhelming consumer support they deserve it.

We need a huge Russian publisher as a counterweight.
Elektronski Artzki. Just flip the E, turn the A upside-down and we're good to go!
First game out: Russian Hockey League 2005. Based on a real, active hockey league.

I would buy the Russian Hockey league game, but only if the franchise mode had a lot of organized crime dealings and a host of intimidation techniques you have to buy/order to facilitate trades, free agent signings, stadium "taxes", etc.

Fear of management, fans, and environment should be statistics assigned to every player.

I was most likely going to buy Madden the next 5 years, anyway. Now I won't impulse buy ESPN games anymore. 2k5 is still sitting here in wrap. :P I don't think there should only be one company with control of the NFL license, but if everyone was bidding on it, I'm glad that EA got it (not that there was any doubt they had the biggest wallet).

Imagine if the NFL were to do a CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE deal...
So MADDEN could ONLY be played on "X" console...

If things like this EA thing are going through,
a console exclusive deal isn't out of the question.

I bet if this happened, and it wasn't on the console you owned,
you'd be pissed.

I think this is where gaming is going...
Which is bad. (No Competition makes things go STALE.)

Where is the "offiical" GA thread on EA buying the NFL license?

I tried searching "license" but only found 2nd and 3rd teir topics. And obviously I can't search "EA" because it's only 2 characters.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate EA, but the NFL deal is not one of them. Why? EA didn't buy controlling interest of the NFL nor send in law ninjas to force the NFL to offer the deal. The NFL wanted the deal and EA could afford the price tag to make it happen.

If you're going to boycott game companies, boycott them for the right reasons.... they make shit products.

Maybe it's because I'm a socialist,

It's not, a socialist would be happy that a single entity would own the NFL license and dole it out equally among all of the available platforms, ergo making it available to as many people as possible.

And EA's the grand-fucking-master of porting.

Anyway, yeah, go boycott EA. I'm not being sarcastic. If you don't like Madden, about the only "message" you can send is to not purchase the game. But look at the deal realistically: This was a mutual agreement between the NFL and EA. Shitty? Yes; unfair? Absolutely. But it's not the end of the world. No one's going to hold a gun to your head and force you to buy Madden, and if gameplay is all that matters - because God knows that was the crux of the Madden vs. 2K/ESPN debates, then whether or not the NFL is represented shouldn't make a lick of difference. The uniforms and names don't make a good football game, the engine and mechanics do.
