Breakdown -- Is this game too hard for me?

Arrrgg Im trying to like Breakdown. I really am. It seems like a cool game. But I have been stuck at this part FOREVER and it's driving me crazy! Im in the burning building and I have to take on two of those T'Lan Warriors at once. And they kick my ass every time! I've tried everything I can to separate them, but I can't. I've tried knocking one away/down with uppercuts/high kicks, etc, but he barely stays down long enough for me to switch the target to his buddy. I tried blocking, but I can't hit back fast enough after being struck.

I was really digging the game up to this point, it seemed really cool. Whats the secret? Has anyone played this game?

Should I just switch to "easy" mode? (its on "normal") I just dont want to do everything up to this point again.... not that I'm all that far into it ;)

i can't remember, I do remember I didn't like the game at all and I think Chespace was way off the mark in his praise of it

all i can remember is that this game sucked and i stopped playing it at that point you just mentioned, i think

Game wasn't half bad, between me and two friends switching we got through a bit of it. Now my memory is a bit fuzzy but is this where you first see them? If so I don't think you can fight them and have to run if thats the part where your lady friend says run too. I want to be careful and not say too much and spoil something major.

Man, I had the same problem at the same point. Don't remember what I did to get past it, but my favorite move was to run toward the enemy and slide toward them followed by an upercut. Very powerful move which should buy you enough time to get to the next guy.

If you think that part is hard, wait until you end up in a room with 10 that respawn...ouch. Great game though and worth the occasional frustration.

It's got its problems, but it was nice to see a really Japanese interpretation of an FPS, and it has some really cool moments, graphics and ideas. If you can get it cheap, it's worth it.

I believe at this part, the intended solution is to just run past the enemies and ignore them.

THAT'S RIGHT, JUST RUN AWAY.

Hey Oracle Dragon,

I thought Breakdown was pretty difficult until I began to abuse the slow but powerful kick move (Up on Left Thumbstick + Left trigger) and a repeating backfist combo (Right+Left Trigger, keep pressing LT afterwards). Both are best in 1v1 situations, but the high kick move is just too strong (especially later in the game, lots of enemies go down in 1 kick)

My recommendation for taking 2 fools on is to isolate them (as I see you've said you done, but I find it hard to offer any other advice) First do a Left Trigger, Left Trigger, Right Trigger combo to knock the first one really far back, then run up to them and as they're getting up do the high kick move (which should also stun/knockback depending on the type of enemy you hit), he should be dead by then, if not, repeat the LT, LT, RT combo to knock back, I find that move to be one of the better knockback combos because the last hit of the combo has decent recovery time (unlike LT, RT, RT, where the kick has horrible recovery time)

Another way if you prefer playing defensively is to use the countermove. While guarding press the RT or LT right as the enemies' move hits, and you'll do a counter punch/elbow. It uses the blue bar but at least you can gain momentum from there (defensive to offensive)

Hope that helps

Wonder what all the hate for this game came from. I thought it was pretty enjoyable for a FPS and I don't usually like console FPS. I really did like how they incorporated quite a few fighting moves into the game and it was very cinematic. Maybe that was the problem, too linear for some. There were some funny odd things. We had alot of laughs at candy bars laying around and just eating them for health, or cans of soda. Now the beginning was a bit weird at first untill you got further into the game and found out part of the big surprise and your gameplay suddenly got enhanced. So I guess if you gave up before that part then I could see how you might be a little jaded. Still you should have gave it more time and I think it would have gotten alot better for you.

The main problem with Breakdown is that it's hard to figure out what your supposed to do to beat different enemies in different situations.

There are way too many secret moves. And it's not at all easy to learn how to use them correctly unless you have a ton of free time and the same amount of interest. But certain parts of the game, especially later, are almost impossible to get through without mastering these secret and sometimes context sensitive moves.

Also keep in mind that if you are stuck at this point, there are parts later in the game that are a nightmare in comparison...

That said, if you know what strategies to use by reading a faq or something then the game is relatively easy.

Sliding upper! I didn't find out about this move until WAAAAAY too late into the game so I had a lot of difficulty, but this one move makes things a lot easier. Just run straight and press both trigger buttons, you'll go into a slide, and then press... right trigger I believe (maybe left, it's been a year now) and you'll do a big uppercut. That takes down most people pretty easily, has very fast recovery and knocks them back.

Just read a FAQ. I did, and it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the game, in fact made the game a lot more enjoyable. Just try not to read the obvious stuff like "walk down here, turn left" that makes things dull. But whenever I get stuck I'll check a FAQ, no point in getting frustrated.

Exactly. This was my very same experience. Made the rest of the game way easier. I was stuck as the same part for a long time until I just got lucky... Much later on I found the slide move at the rest of the game was a breeze...

Cool, thanks for the tips guys ;) Ill try a few more times on normal (with the sliding thing), and switch to easy if I have to. I don't usually like playing on easy, but the game seems cool, and I want to play it. And with 66 other games in the backlog, I don't want to spend 20 hours getting stuck in parts :lol
