December 4, 2007 -- Britney Spears nearly skipped her chance to make a $500,000 music video - but showed up when she realized her Jive Records label was about to give the shot to a younger, up-and-coming singer.

"Britney was supposed to shoot a video for her song 'Pieces of Me' last Tuesday at Social Hollywood," a well-placed Jive insider told Page Six.

"Jive hired Wayne Isham to direct, had all the dancers there - hair, makeup and everything," our source added. "But she refused to come. Jive was really upset. They were already paying everyone overtime, and finally Britney showed up 12 hours late - but only after they told her they were going to give the video shoot to another Jive artist, Samantha Jade."

Jade, a rising star on the label, was told to be on call to shoot her video for her single "Eyes on Me," the insider said. Rather than write off the shoot's expense, the record company was set to have Jade step in and use the team assembled for Spears' video.

"They were going to recalibrate it for Samantha, because it was too expensive to just scrap," our source said. "Britney finally showed up when she realized a new, younger, hotter girl would take her slot."

A rep for Jive and Spears didn't return e-mails.

On Saturday, as Spears celebrated her 26th birthday, she had to deal with her scene-stealing frenemy Paris Hilton, who showed up at the Scandinavian Mansion of Style in Bel-Air.

"Britney was inside with Sam Lufti and Ali Sims," one partygoer told us. "When Paris saw Britney leaving, she desperately raced out to walk her to her car."

PageSix.com reported yesterday that Spears wanted to call her ex-husband, Kevin Federline - but had to borrow Hilton's cellphone "because she could not find her own," a source told our new Web site.

Spears invited Federline to join her at the club during the 1 a.m. call.

"She begged him to come out with her," a source said, "[but] "Kevin reminded her that one of them needed to be a parent and take care of the boys. Then she hung up on him. Kevin said she was drinking."

Ahhh, I remember the scene in Natural Born Killers when they're in the hotel room and Mickey is staring at the cleaning lady as he's f*cking Mallory.. She's cathes him and gets all pissed and runs off, leaving Mickey to rape and kill the woman..

Then she ends up at the gas station and gives the young noob attendant a shot at free poon.. Damn she looked hot in that blonde wig. He started eating her slot and was too f*cking eager and she kills him for it.

Yeah, she was so hot in that scene.

New talent? Britney can barely sing, she never wrote a song and she does not even know what producing embodies. This only difference between this new girl and Britney is crack, coke and some sorry ass transformed tits, ass and face.

If she did that then it really sucks. She once had a career and was quite a pro.

I have like zero expectations for "Piece of Me" video. She shoot it in like 12 hours, how do you make a good pop video in under 12 hours. Toxic this will be not. A shame, since the song is seriously dope.

Each day I hate her more and more =(
