Brutal Legend on Steam : yes, it is ($15)

Even though I run this at 60fps all the time, I get some odd jitter. The first time you control the car it was noticeable. Also, shadows are cut off and rotate as you move around.
Same problem here.

Game randomly stutters regardless of what is going on in both 30 and 60 fps mode and the shadow are definitely cut off at close proximity.

60fps max and it's not overheating, just running hotter than most games. It also crashed in the middle of the headbanger mission.
Ah ok, I just wondered if you were having problems or just concerned. If I upgrade I want to get a cool card.

Also, I just saw a new patch today, but I don't know the details since they don't seem to be uploading the notes on Steam.

**2/27/13 Patch**
We have released another patch to the game. We have a lot of big fixes and will continue to work on the remaining issues and listening to the feed back from out community. It is important to us to give you the best experience possible.
Major Fixes
• Terrible stuttering/low framerate that some players experienced after pausing the game (including opening the map) should now be now fixed. This required (temporarily) disabling interpolated rendering. We’ll re-enable interpolated rendering once we having the timing issue that affected some players worked out. Hi-fi (60 fps) sim is still enabled (if you turn the option on).
• Missing background in Motor Forge is fixed.
• Fixes and improvements for the in-game radial menus based on player feedback.
Major Known Issues
• Alt+Tab can lead to black textures.
• Interpolated rendering is disabled until we have a solution that works on all platforms.

This game really needs a minimap..

You may already know this, but the tail lights of your car are your guide. When you set a waypoint they tell you which way to go. If they're off go straight, left is left, right is right, if they're both on turn around.

Seems like they should have waited another 3-5 weeks for release. It's buggy but works. I was wondering why alt-tab broke my game. I was mad when I had to alt-f4 out every time. I will give it another go in a bit as I'm on the wife's laptop.

Performance was pretty good for me up until the open area at Bladehenge (30 fps or so on an old e8400 / 5850 system, with 2xSSAA).

I'm using the hi-fi simulation and saw maybe one glitchy car animation when it was flying through the air, and yes alt-tab can make the game go black, but other than that I don't think I hit any early bugs at least.

Yea but that works pretty shitty, a minimap for driving around is good, but mostly for the RTS moments in the game a minimap would be a must.

That's what kept me from rebuying the game. The RTS sections desperately need a mini-map where you can give basic orders to your troops. It would both make the RTS sections more accessible to people and deepen possible strategies.

The maps aren't as big as in games like Starcraft, and even if they did give you a mini map, you'd get fog of war. Meaning you'd have to fly around and scout anyway. They give you notifications when units you sent out are under attack, when buildings you own are under attack, and while flying all units that aren't currently in your "party" have a green light glowing on them.

Yea I don't see minimap really adding much to the strategy bits. The maps are pretty small and the ability to fly gives you a complete view of the battlefield.

I beat the game, and I don't think flying was enough. I had to be pretty crude with my troops since I never felt like I could manage them properly.

Now I know I sound like a "true believer", but that sounds like the game in intention. You're not given the tools to play it like a traditional RTS game, so you don't. For most of a match, you just want the troops following and fighting around you.

Except there are points in the later battles where you can't do that, and win. Doing that in the final battle would make it impossible. I was playing the game with what I was given, and felt what I was given was lacking. Like sending a soldier out into the field without a helmet, and telling him if shit starts flying his way he can always duck.

I have unfortunately seen little to no change with the last update. The cut-scene where you meet Lars seemed to run at below 15 fps.

What kind of system do you have? I think my drivers were December 2012, and even with the ancient core 2 duo and a 5850, I think that area was 20-30 fps for me with 2xSS and draw distance bumped up a little from default. I assume you have a better system, so you shouldn't be having issues unless you're using 4xSS or something.

Took some screens of the game on pc, the facial expression in this screen amused me a bit.

But that's what I did with the final battle... I beat it on the hardest difficulty, and was always either the vanguard of fights, or I sent them ahead to keep them moving for a few seconds while I queued up the next units to build. I needed to be there because it also let me see what was attacking them, and who I needed to double team with to counter efficiently.

This isn't remotely true. I beat it on Brutal difficulty on 360 with the 'order everyone to follow and roll across the map strategy'. Troop composition is what is important in this game, not micromanaging your guys around the map.

I also got a C2D, although paired with a 4670. I'm only using FXAA, if there's an issue it doesn't seem to lay with the card. Playing at 720p or 1080p doesn't seem to make much difference. However reducing the draw distance does help, but not much. 20-25fps(and further dips) is not what I expected of such a dated looking game to be honest. :P

edit: getting below 10fps in the headbanger mission. :/ This is simply not playable. Strangely it jumps 20-30 frames when the menu overlay comes up. There's just something deeply wrong with this port.

Trying to get ENBSeries running with the game and i have had some succes so far, will report back when i have tested some more.

Still need to do a lot of fine tuning, but here is an example with the game running with custom ENB series settings:

I like it. Instruct me?!

That is a pretty dated set up. It is an 360 title after all so I wouldn't expect it to work incredibly well on your rig even if it isn't the most graphically impressive game. That said, there are issues with the game, but there is a point were you can't blame the game without looking at your own hardware.

I like it. Instruct me?!

I will probaly post it after i have done some more tweaking to it. The bloom is a bit too prominent at daytime and washes out the sky a bit too much + i want to get the color correction a bit more correct, it's a bit over saturated at times and i want to see if i can get the motion blur function working.

It does make for some pretty spectacular screens at times:

So far the game has been running pretty good for me, but I think I found a bug with the bound serpents: I freed 20 something serpents so far and I didn't get the gifts from Ormagoden. Or maybe I got them but the gift screen didn't show up, it's hard to tell without a character status section. Anyone else had the same problem?

I had such an amazing time playing this up till all the RTS-sections.

In the beginning they were okay, but it got basically impossible towards the end if you played on hard.

Oh, and also that soundtrack. Ministry blasting Thieves while you blast a car through the woods.

Sucks that people are still struggling with technical issues. A bunch of community members are compiling a master bug-list over on the Steam forums, so any info you can offer would be helpful to the devs. Link HERE.

In the spirit of amusing screenshots, please enjoy this one of creepy demonic racing hooligan Fleetus staring at Eddie while he makes out with Ophelia.

There's still a few UI bugs that prevent reward popups and so forth from appearing I think. Also, the "gifts from Ormagoden" are actually unlisted improvements to health, health regen etc IIRC, so it's kinda hard to tell if you've got them at the best of times.

I found that health and regen bonuses are listed in the statistics section, so I actually got them, only the reward screen is glitched. And sometimes the song playing on the radio (sorry, I meant THE VOICE OF THE GODS) doesn't pop up. Minor problems, anyway.
Also, is it my monitor or is the pc version a lot darker than the 360? during night I can't see anything.

Wasn't there a checklist or something added in the DLC? Or maybe it only activates after you beat the game.

Playing on hard means you really have to dig in and understand the game's battle system. Like go into the in-game notebook and learn about all the units you have and the ones you'll be facing. It's not like other games where "hard mode" is really normal and "normal" is really easy. You also need to do many of the sidequests and collect many of the goodies (I'd say 80-90%) that you can grab before each mission.

they should have held off releasing this game in order to polish it up more. releasing in the state that they did just leaves a bad taste in the mouth of gamers and looks bad.

Haven't had many issues myself. But I also have 680 in SLI. So it's possible it's underperforming and I just don't notice it. Although reading this thread there seems to be a lot of issues. Bummer.

Havent had any issues either (aside from a black bar sticking out of Rita's face in one of the cutscenes just before Lionwhites battle). Other wise the game has been running pretty smooth at 60fps 98% of the time on my GTX 480 1GB.

This is seriously an underrated game that deserves another chance...I played it back on the xbox when it came out and forgot how great it was in all aspects (Story, Atmosphere, Music, Dialogue, Gameplay).

Really hope this does well and we can see more Brutal Legend at some point.

I did all of those things, and I eventually got to the last battle, and I did complete it, but then mid-cutscene the game stopped and showed me how my stage got destroyed because it didn't stop the battle when the cutscene began.

I looked up the ending on youtube and sold it afterwards. Felt so fucking burned after being so invested into the awesome soundtrack and amazing locales.

i just tried the game out again, since they released a patch since the last time i tried it ...gotta say there's a huge improvement in performance now. it seems to play pretty much perfectly now @ 60fps.

everything maxed out @ 1080p and using SSAA x2 (x4 seemed alright, but i kept it @ x2 just to try and make sure i get good performance thru all situations) = smooth gameplay/60fps.

using a GTX680 4gig.

good to see Double Fine released patches so quickly to improve things.

Sorry for your pain. That's a horrible thing to be hit with in the eleventh and a half hour.

Glad to hear. I love this game. Feels good playing it again.

I'm playing this and am I right when I say that that every animation in game runs at 30hz even if the game's running at 60 ?

Make sure that HiFi Sim is activated under the Game options screen.

Also, for anyone suffering from very tiny micro stutters, particularly when driving around in the car: try pushing CTRL-Home to disable Interpolated Rendering, and see if that makes it better. Seemed to help me a lot. There is no pop up text to confirm whether or not it's on or off though, so you'll have to be careful.

New Patch:

**3/5/13 Patch**
And another patch!

Major Fixes
• Fixed startup crash caused by certain webcams that appear to Windows as controllers with hundreds of buttons.
• Fixed jittery high speed cutscene objects (like cars) when Hifi Sim is enabled.
• Fix bug with Overkill achievement not unlocking. This should unlock retroactively for anyone who already completed it.
• Fix bug with Protector achievement not unlocking. This should unlock retroactively for anyone who already completed it.
• Fix bug with beast Master achievement not unlocking. This achievement will need to be re-completed, but not incremental progress will save correctly.
• Fixed instructions to display proper controls in Rockmore UI.
• Additional optimizations.

Seems to have fixed most of my complaints now, so going to start a proper playthrough, while waiting for Tomb Raider patches or Nvidia drivers.

All I want to say is what a joy this game is. The power of story/voice acting/music can drive an experience to great heights. Glad I pre-ordered this on the PC.

I agree. I completed it on 360, but got hung up in all the wrong things: tech issues, RTS sections, Jack Black. But playing it again now, I just can't understand why I had so many problems with it. Game is super charming!

Also: Headbanger hair in BL > TressFX :P

I'm having a blast just driving around a metal-ass landscape. Fuck man, the land in this is so amazing. Pity there's... not much to actually do once you've seen everything, but fuck! Chrome volcanoes, giant anvil mountains, steel spider strings... god damn. Also, your encampments clear out once you've done the sneak attacks so the land feels a little emptier :T

I mean, I finished this on 360 already, but that was when I was still in school...

Anyway, now to fiddle around with graphics options and make it a smooth 60FPS and glorious looking

Today was the first of a series of community battles called "Clash with the Creators", aired on Twitch live. Tim and the other devs were rearin to play matchmaking with random people when they discovered that, a minute into the stream, the latest patch broke matchmaking entirely. After scrambling to find the cause (and they did, gotta love that response time!) they got to work on a patch while running some private matches for the sake of keeping the stream going.

As Tim was setting up his last game, I was able to sneak into it through the power of greyskull and ended up on the same team as Tim. It took him a minute to realize there was another Eddie on his team, and the look on his face the whole time was priceless haha.

VOD here, I show up in the game that starts ~42 minutes in.

It was a lot of fun to mess around and help him overtake the other team while he was trying to figure out how this doppelganger got in there. I ended up saving our asses from a last-minute enemy unit rush while Tim decimated their base with a rock crusher. Eddie One and Two buddies!

I'll try to keep the thread updated when the next ones happen, but if you want to keep up to date yourself follow their twitter or check Brutal Legend's website.
