You get a mobile phone that works as normal when you are out and about. When you get home, within range of the bluetooth base station, it switches to using a broadband connection and you only pay standard fixed line call charges.

One phone number but cheaper calls at home.

Pretty neat (although Rabbit tried the same thing 20 years ago).

Cool idea, though mainly since I thought of it (right down to the Bluetooth VOIP base station) five years ago :p

And yes, BT fucked me too. They cancelled my DSL connection -- rather than pay reconnection I told them to take a hike and went to Freeserve -- and a year later I find out that BT kept on charging me. Bastards.

Wow, it really does sound vaguely like the old Rabbit mobile phone service, but only in reverse (using a base station at home rather than in public places). You can still see the occasional Rabbit sign in London (there's one in Finsbury Park tube station if you look carefully). I don't think this idea will take off tho...

Its a great idea except in Japan they'll prolly not bother because evil DoCoMo can still make money by keeping landline and cellphones separate. DoCoMo is evil.

Will start substantiating his hate
In Denmark a similar service is being offered. At home you can call non-mobile phones for free.

still the fuckers can't upgrade me to 2mb(which they are doing for free) since I'm too far from the exchange so they give me a £3 discount WHOOPY DOO! I'm too far away from the exchange but the exchange is a fucking stupid one theres one closer.
