I didn't see this posted already, but the BTK killer from Kansas (of all places) confessed to 10 counts of murder today, so he should receive life in prison--the death penalty had not been instituted when he committed the crimes. What's the purpose of the whole interrogation after he puts in his guilty plea? A test of competency or sanity, or just some matter of court records?

Well, the judge seemed like he wanted a real confession, not just a suspect who lost hope of being found not guilty. He said he plead guilty because he knew he would be found guilty anyway, and a trial would be a waste of time.

That first confession was all-out BS. He knew exactly what he was doing when he broke in the house. I mean, come on, he "realized" that he wasn't wearing a mask so THEN he decided to off the family? What a load of crap.

you know...I believe in the philosophy of democratic liberalism. Flawed though it is. And I'm often moved to work in minor ways toward human dignity in my community, etc. Yet...when I see things like this where there is no doubt about the who involved and with a perpetrator who caused such pain and suffering to so many people....I just don't understand why we don't hand off such filth to some hard motherfuckers to beat to death in some room. Or just take him out back and shoot him in the head. I understand that we look for some sort of internal consistency in judging such people, that we are able to judge them because we hold life (all of it) to some higher standard. Or at least that's the standard we must try to uphold. But I'm all for the contradictions in such a case. It's an affront that such scum draws another breath, even in custody. I wouldn't be any happier if he had a meeting with the death house in 15 years. Some things should be beyond the pale, and punished as such. Swiftly.
