"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Reboot Pilot Casts Ryan Kiera Armstrong in Lead Role

That would beg the question of who the father is. Angel? Spike? Some beta male she met after it all?

I seem to recall some mumbo-jumbo about Slayers not having kids, that may have just been a life expectancy thing though.
One of the slayers Spike killed had a kid so it happens.

Filming has begun.

Some casting news:

The new additions are: Faly Rakotohavana("Unprisoned," "Secret Society of Second Born Royals") as Hugo, Ava Jean ("A Week Away," "Law & Order: SVU") as Larkin, Sarah Bock ("Severance") as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso ("Witches of East End," "Major Crimes") as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott("Oppenheimer," "Frasier") as Mr. Burke.

Merrin Dungey (The Lincoln Lawyer), Audrey Hsieh (Found) and Audrey Grace Marshall (The Flight Attendant) have been cast in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which has a pilot order at Hulu. They will be guest stars in the pilot, with the characters conceived as recurring if the project goes to series.

Should have made the lead a boy.

How long until they introduce trans kids and I don't mean Transylvania.

Im sure the writers kicked it around. Can a boy drug up on testosterone blockers and estrogen and become "eligible" to get slayer powers? Or can a girl juice herself to the t and lose the ability?

No Whedon no watch.

He's an oddball degenerate asshole, but he sure can write.

Alternatively they could just make new things instead of half reanimating the corpses of the past
I find it infuriating when they try to revive a franchise without its original creator.

I'm not much of a Buffy fan but I do recall it having a very distinct writing style and vision, which was 100% Whedon... the very existence of these characters is even all from him, yes? It's not like he was adapting any prior story. To try and pretend a new show is somehow also Buffy when it has nothing to do with the creator is absurd.

Agreed. I absolutely enjoy both Buffy and Angel, but I've got zero enthusiasm for this.

Everyone is after that "Stranger Things / Cobra Kai / Wednesday" audience.

It is why Ferris Bueller, and Goonies are getting sequels. Also why Ghostbusters will likely get one more movie.

Look at the numbers "Wednesday season 2" did at Netflix. …Damn… 50 million viewers?…you can see why.

What if they got the Buffy comic book writers involved? :pie_thinking:

Nobody wants to see Ferris Bueller in his 60s, wtf. But if they get Ben Stein for a scene... ya know what.. no. no. Just don't. No. No more membaberries just top guys. It's over.
Ben stein is still alive?

I used to like the Ben stein show on Comedy Central.

Edit: I wonder if the Ferris Bueller movie is about his kids, or if it is about him retiring from the workplace. Making it like an Office Space type comedy?

Well the Whedon Buffy is a continuation to the movie Buffy but in the end it matters really as a sidenote and curiosity.

The film was written by Joss as well, so Buffy conceptually is 100% Whedon, though for the show I'd credit some others like Jane Espenson, Steven Deknight, Marti Noxon, and Drew Goddard, his writers room was full of geniuses. You can CLEARLY see Whedon in the dialogue and how ensembles operate, where he is far superior to many. Too bad about his on set behavior, maybe now he has low T and can be trusted around women :P

I'd best get started then! 👀
The first season is a bit rough, both writing but also just cheap looking film quality, but fortunately it's short (13 eps versus the typical 20+ for that time period) and lays the ground work for STELLAR seasons 2-3, then fairly good 5-7.

For my money Firefly is the better "Whedon Experience' but Buffy just nails high school so well in those first few seasons and then still drops damned good TV for the rest of the run. The real problem is that Buffy was so imitated by other shows that things that were groundbreaking at the time may seem tired and overused now :P

Doesn't move the needle for me. Never read the comics, just enjoyed the TV shows and was happy with that.

The whole "its a new series, in comic form!" always seemed a bit off to me. Kinda like how Halo has all these canon books that nobody ever reads.

First season still has some charm to it. I agree that the show was best when everyone was in high school. Season 7 was probably my least favorite.

Despite watching all of Buffy, I've never really watched that much Angel.

Angel has some great stuff in it. I regret selling my DVDs.

Lets not get carried away..
Too late, I bought them already :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The local charity shop had the set for £5. DVD, though..

I've been buying up loads of old media for a few years now, and i'd never watched Buffy. I got so pissed off with sub service's not having what I wanted to watch, I ditched the lot completely.

You will enjoy it.

there are some weird things with like some special edition or uprezed versions where they did not crop some scenes properly and you can see the whole crew in a shot.
