The first 5 seasons of Supernatural are amazing. it should have ended there.

There are loads of great episodes past season 5, its just less consistent with for the most part unmemorable season arcs.

To be honest, there's so much Supernatural that I practically guarantee that only the most hardcore fanboy would be able to accurately track the shows entire trajectory.

PS. As to Angel's puppet episode, I'd argue there are a significant number of "gimmick" Supernatural episodes that top it. There's a friggin Scooby Doo cross-over episode in season 13 ffs!

The Loki/Gabriel episodes were always a treat.

First handful of seasons of Supernatural were great but it just rambled on and on to its own detriment. My vote went to Buffy.

Supernatural easily.
I think Supernatural was consistent up until the last 2 seasons for obvious reasons even if is was rocky with some later episodes.
And I do agree 1-5 are was a perfect run, but later seasons had episodes like Season 11, Episode 4 "Baby" which was a filler episode but was fantastic.
In fact if it returned I would tune in without hesitation.
Buffy had a lot of bad episodes despite being shorter series.
Overall Supernatural>>>>>>>>>>>Buffy & Angel combined.
But that's not saying Buffy & Angel are bad, they're up there.

I gave the first 4-5 eps a good go. You just gotta remember it was a CW show from like 20 years ago, so the budget is about $5 and a pack of smokes. Still, it's refreshing to see some very young actors at the start of their careers and the CW casting call of exclusively smoking hot women is in full effect :P

Apparently the streaming versions have dull bland music versus the licensed rock of the network show and that drastically impacts the feel. I wonder if you can get the BRs for cheap.
watched first 2 episodes and it's soooo good.
I love the colors, atmosphere. It feels so nostalgic. I've missed a tv like this.
I am watching the bluray version. It's just like on tv with the short intro, previously on last episode and so on

watched ep3 of season 1 of supernatural today.
holy hell was every actress so hot in the early 2000s?! like damn
and I like how simple it is? how genuine it feels? Last show I've seen like that is ash vs evil dead.
edit: It really brings me back. I like the clothing, the sets.. the simplicity of it all. None of this dialogue and simple clothing would pass in shows today. It all has to feel so special nowadays. Either full of jokes or full of political propaganda/woke.
Here? Dean looks at every single woman in the show and grins like an idiot... and they love it. And they are so modestly dressed compared to nowadays lol

I genuinely like both, but I think Seasons 1-5 of Supernatural are some of the best of that genre of TV. It's melodramatic because it's a CW show at its heart, but it's got enough funny/touching/action moments to keep you invested. The "monster of the week" episodes are better than the meta episodes, in my opinion, but there's enough building of the central plots that it makes sense at least, and the initial 'finale' was a good bittersweet ending.

Now past Season 5? You're dealing with the execs forcing them to pump out episodes because people were still watching it in high numbers, so don't expect the world there. There were occasionally some diamond in the rough episodes, even then.

If you're going to watch Supernatural, I recommend the blu-ray versions. The streaming ones lost the music licenses and had to add in a bunch of royalty free butt rock, which surprisingly kills off a major part of the show.
Wait, seriously!?!?!?
