Bundles of Awesome - The Official WiiWare Discussion Thread

The only thing I heard was that there were two games scheduled for this week -- nothing in a general sense.

Looking at what Nintendo of America has done in the past, though, I wouldn't be surprised if there are only like three games per week total between WiiWare and VC. I'd love to be proven wrong on Monday, but.
Gotcha.

I think its obviously too early to discern what their plans are.

Looking forward to Critter Round-Up though!

Actually Nibris was first.

I hate Luc way more than Nibris though.

Way, way, way more. Nibris are kind of like these cute little European kids on GameFAQs who fool the world into thinking their somebodies (and probably themselves), but Luc Bernard just comes across as an arrogant asshole who thinks he's smart because he can draw the same shitty characters with googley eyes and thinks it's meaningful that he's put them in a setting that's controversial and edgey (to people on fanfiction.net).

Mind you, if his games make good platformers, I'll play them, but they look like shit platformers so far.

So has the actual PR been leaked yet? I know about Star Solider R and Critter Round-up but those were announced by Konami and Hudson.

Supposedly Nintendo had been cracking down on leaks which is why the VC thread isn't getting them in advance anymore.

No kidding? That stinks. I don't understand why NOA has to be so hush-hush on what gets released for the VC and now WiiWare. I find it irritating.

I can honestly say I'm happy with all 4 of my purchases.

FFCC is addictive as hell and, to me at least, is worth the price tag (yes, DLC included). DYC and Pop are fun diversions, and LostWinds is an excellent sidescroller.

I think I'm going to pass on TV Show King and Blackjack and see what comes out Monday.

There are not 100 completed games for WiiWare. Only a bit over half that number have even been announced, including those that have already been released. Any claim to the contrary is based on a misinterpretation or a misquote of whatever Nintendo actually said.
Please provide a source. Not that I don't believe you, I would just like to see this, because the word 'proposed' doesn't sound like 'completed' to me.

Iwata says that he doesn't like releasing info on games that people can't go out and buy immediately. That is why they only release VC and Wiiware info at the time the games are available, and it's total bullshit.

This strategy is only with US/EUR VC :(, I don't know what's the pattern in JAP but I know that they get their lists monthly.

You either need to reread that quote or retype what you wrote.

It doesn't, but a number of people have claimed otherwise (based largely on this Gamasutra editorial). My source is just common sense and basic logic, as well as the more accurate quote you provided.

Fair enough. Either way, there are more than enough games being made for WiiWare. Hopefully they all remain as solid as the titles already announced.

Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1-4 Players, 1000 Wii Points) and Star Soldier R (Hudson Soft, 1 Player, 800 Wii Points)

No purchases for me this week =( Really wanted Dr Mario.

Which makes it even more frustrating.

Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1-4 Players, 1000 Wii Points)

$10 to build fences? I'm all for Wiiware, but these prices need to come down.

Hm. Could be interesting, but it depends on the price. Screens don't look great, though part of that could be that they seem to be very bad captures.

They ripped off Overboard! basically.

If they did a good job ripping it off, then it's worth 800 points at least. Hopefully it's more than a shameful rip because I'm quite interested in that now. Tis a great style of game argh.

I've been told by Nintendo that all 8 titles are going up tomorrow, so it seems launch window literally means launch.

Fucking excellent news :-)

Hopefully it'll be a Tuesday update in the way that the VC updates on a Friday (i.e. about 11-12pm on the night before)

That's weird though, Oxygen Games' website says Pirates is being released the 30th.

Well, I'm only going on what their PR team told me. Basically, it went "oh hai, working on wiiware launch coverage, which of the 8 launch window games release tomorrow?" "all 8 of them :D". But in different words.

ksamedi said:
So, should we expect this at midnight or tommorow morning?
Of course the way things went in the US doesn't mean it'll be the same for Europe, but here it was neither. Instead it was about halfway between midnight and the normal time of morning when a VC update occurs.

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

May 19, 2008

Today begins a new phase for the Wii-kly Update. From now on, we'll have all the information about the arrival of both WiiWare™ and Virtual Console™ games. So basically you're getting access to the best games of the past and the coolest creations of the present. With this week's releases you can blast space-based enemies with your starfighter, fly the not-always-friendly skies or even corral some cute critters in the barnyard.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone - Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): The critters have escaped, and the barnyard is in chaos! It's up to you to quickly corral the animals in this puzzle-action challenge. You'll have to mend fences in a hurry to keep all the critters safe and satisfied. But the fun doesn't stop with the farmland; more than 50 challenging levels take you to several exotic locations, including the outback, the icy Arctic and more. There's even a series of minigames for when the critters get you down: Snowball Soccer, Predator Rampage, Chicken Catch and Fence Trap. Up to four players can compete or cooperate as the critters run wild. So roll up those sleeves and grab a friend-those critters won't catch themselves.

Star Soldier R (Hudson Entertainment, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Star Soldier R is a new kind of shooter where players aim for the best scores within a two- or five-minute time limit. Develop various scoring strategies, and pump out those points within the breakneck time frame. Assembled in record time to counter the advance of a powerful enemy, the mysterious Brain Forces, the "Caesar" starfighter takes off to fight for the very future of mankind. Shoot down countless enemies, upgrade your ship to the max with power-ups hidden throughout the levels and wage an all-out assault against the core of the enemy fortress. Combining the excitement of shoot-'em-ups with in-depth scoring strategies, this state-of-the-art competitive shooter will keep you coming back for more. Upload your best scores with Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, and pit your skills against the world's best fighter pilots from the comfort of your living room. Hone your skills and show the world who's boss.

Virtual Console

SKYKID™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): Red Baron, from the freedom- and peace-loving nation of birds, Bird Land, faces off in the skies with his rival Blue Max in this side-scrolling shooting game. Defeat the many enemies that await you as you complete your mission, using moves like the loop-the-loop to shoot down enemies from behind. Fly low to pick up bombs placed in the stage and drop them on command posts, warships or other designated targets to destroy them. Then land safely at base to proceed to the next mission. Beware of enemy fire, though-it will cause you to crash, unless you're able to recover by rapidly pressing the buttons. You can even play with a second person and fly simultaneously, sometimes helping each other and other times competing against each other. Prepare yourself and take to the skies, but make sure that the catchy background music (which became an instant classic when this game was originally released) doesn't distract you from your goal.

Where the hell is Dr. Mario?

It is having fun with its friends Disaster: Day of Crisis, Kirby Adventure, and Project Hammer at Duke Nukem Forever's house.

I know, it should be out by now, and there is really no excuse.

Dr. Mario being "delayed" is giving more space to third parties to do their thing.

Capndrake said:
It hasn't been announced for release outside Japan as far I'm aware.

ACK. Thank you for the info.

No announcement just means no announcement, right? I mean, I'm sure they're going to put it out in the U.S.? I have monies NOA!!! :)

Does anyone know when Wii-ware will be launched in the UK?

Various sources say 20th? But no time as such...which sucks...

Will it be like a late evening GMT sort of time like VC updates? If so then it will be tomorrow which sucks as I'm really looking forward to Wii-Ware...

you, euro fellas, are in for a treat if that 'launch window' lineup turns out to be a launch lineup. also, prepare mentally for an e-wallet ravaging - i was cautious with the US launch lineup and i still ended up spending ~45 bucks on three games and related DLC. but it would've been much worse if we had your launch lineup ; )

You know third parties are in trouble when delaying Dr. Mario is intended to give them some breathing room

bought Star Soldier R today.. now I'm not buying any more WiiWare titles until Nintendo give me Dr. Mario Online Rx.
