Bundles of Awesome - The Official WiiWare Discussion Thread

All games are up for Aussies too, yes Nintendo had not previously announced anything. Just BAM a press release on launch day.

Grabbed:

FFCC: MLAaK
Dr Mario
Star Soldier R
Lost Winds
TV Show King

It's late, so I've not had much chance to play yet, but I'm really impressed by everything so far. Dr Mario and FFCC are really polished pieces of software, and MLaAK looks like being a massive timesink for me - and on this little time spent with it, one of the better SE games I've played recently.

Star Soldier R and TV Show King are both great fun in different ways, and while I'm still a little disappointed that SSR is so limited, the score attack is still going to be a real challenge. Can't wait to play TV Show King with my fiancee and her kids later in the week.

Lost Winds, though, is the standout. I get the same feeling from it that I did from Kirby: Canvas Curse (or Power Paintbrush, depending on where you are) and there's a real joy that comes from stirring background objects, or lifting Toku higher, or sweeping water out of a flowing stream. Charming, full of character and a joy just to mess around with - tie that to a neat little puzzle-platformer and you've got the essential launch title for the service.

Fantastic stuff.

It seems like they removed the demo of Dr. Mario. Maybe they added that one by a mistake or something? o0

Edit: 103 blocks for Dr. Mario

So I finally grabbed LostWinds, and wow, wowo, wow, what a fantastic game.

I've played around half an hour, but I could have continued playing until finishing it. The game is sooooo charming and makes you get touchy with everything around. The very beginning brough back memories of Ocarina of Time, which is always nice and not many games make you go evokative just before you get to control one of the main characters.

But after playing a bit, I've been feeling this Super Metroid feeling, where you have a world connected with places to go that are blocked to you by now. But it's not like with the Prime series where you had to go memorizing everything, you just are amazed at the world and don't really care if you have to re-explore everything.

I'm really impressed, I couldn't but think "this is one of the kind of games I'd have loved to see on the Wii in the early days".

Awright bitches! I'm ranked Número Uno in the South American two-minute mode!
with my piddling 800k

Working on my 5-min mode, but I am having terrible thoughts of rage and hate at Hudson for no including a simple reset level function. I know, it's five minutes at most, but damn.

EDIT: Where the fuck is my SSR official thread? :( I'd make it myself but, y'know, permajunior'd and all.
for the best, really

Congrats on the achievement! I'm just shy of 800k on the 2-min mode, but it's good enough for the top 10 in the Northeastern USA.

There is a level reset, by the way... hold down + and - simultaneously for a second and it's a soft reset. (Thank you, operations guide!)

Also... Hudson has published a mini strat guide which details a couple of scoring secrets (if you're interested): http://www.hudson.co.jp/wii/wiiware/starsoldier/usa/e/guide.html

Good luck in SSR!

I knew most of those, but the backblast damages enemies? That's new. I have to try that.

I'm still hitting A instead of Y or vice-versa sometimes, letting loose the Force balls and killing their power without realising :(. And the damn twin domes (Delilahs?) always mock me when this happens, bursting one of them early.

But I'll get them, oh yes. I'll show them.

Star Soldier R is great so far - scored just above 800k in 2 min mode and nabbed 9th in the Northeast. Very reminiscent of Pacman CE, just wish the ranking was implemented a little better.

The Dr. Mario demo is just a multiplayer demo which you can only use when you get invitations. You can't invite other people. So to get the demo, someone with the full game has to send it to you. Well, technically you can only send instructions on how to download the demo.

Lost Winds is pretty cool. Gonna play it more later. Have to sleep. 5AM... zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Manual said hitting + & - simultaneously resets the game iirc.

Has anyone downloaded and played Toki Tori? I would love to hear about it. Maybe it's just so fun you can't put it down. :)
I bought it and tried 6 levels afair. It's really charming and cute but I suggest the game is fucking hard in the higher levels. You can control Toki by clicking where he has to go, or by using the analog stick instead. You can change items by waggle the wiimote left or right or by using the d-pad.
Music is quite good, so I love it so far. I haven't played the GBA game but the game is really great (imho a mix out of loderunner, pp hammer, lost vikings and treasure island) I love such games :)

Sold. Probably would have bought it anyway when it shows up in NA, but that pretty much confirms it.

Finally, it's up in Europe ... Although my Wii hasn't turned blue yet. Gonna grab me FF and Lost Winds.

Also up are Dr Mario, Star Soldier, Toki Tori and TV Show King. Never heard of that last one ...

Holy shit, that sounds awesome, and the art is spectacular!
Tierney's always got such amazing art

Lost Winds and World of Goo = <3

Wow, gonna buy a Wii Poins Card later.

But I'm really suprised that a game like FF isn't translated into German. Not that I think it's bad or anything, its just that Nintendo normally translates everything.

I think you're only supposed to see the Dr. Mario demo if a friend invites you, but they accidentally made it available to everyone for a short time.

And yes, Toki Tori is awesome.

Damn... I was always getting some errors here and there with the Wii Shop channel, but now it's completely broken for me. The menu's are extremely slow, and when I finally managed to get to Toki Tori and it starts downloading, I keep getting error 204038. :s I have tried it over 15 times, still haven't downloaded the game. Help please. :(

I don't have any problems with any other online related Wii channels or online play (Mario Kart) on Wii.

OK just some quick impressions from this morning. Didn't have a lot of time to check out things. Downloaded Dr. Mario and Toki Tori.

Dr. Mario is classic Dr. Mario with online and Germ Buster of BT fame. GB works well with the remote although it definetly works better with the stylus. Maybe I'll need some time to get used to it - dunno. Send out a demo to the three GAFers on my adress book. If you want a demo hit me up with your Wii FC - mine is 3250 1507 8167 3380. I will send the demo when I get home (this should only work for Euro GAFers).

I only played 6 levels or so from TT but so far it's absolutely awesome. It's just the introduction but you can sense things will get complicated as time goes on. Gfx are very nice (2D ftw!), you can use either remote alone, with Nunchuck or CC (I think GC as well but I didn't look because remote and Nunchuck is fine with me).

Downloading FFCC just now, better be worth it. Had 9000 points to spend on WiiWare bought this and Toki Tori so far - down to 6600 or so now. Should I get both Lost Winds and Dr. Mario?

The Bubble Barrage music in Toki Tori is so amazing, I hope somebody will record some MP3s.

Also, the credits have some... interesting names (Might not know some unless you're Dutch or at least European):

"People we'd like to greet":
-Jaap Stam
-Koekenbakker
-Guybrush Threepwood :lol

And the text written on the letters on the Message Board (Not the actual letter, but the letter image) is Dutch.

I downloaded Lost Winds last night an played a bit 'till I found the first save point. The game looked and played great, kinda reminded me of DK Jungle Beat. I was a bit disapointed that the Dr. Mario demo was multiplayer only, I don't think I'll get the full version..

Wow, just played more than two hours of FFCC and it is great. It reminds me a bit of FF Tactics (with the sending off of the adventurers to fight for you) so that's good. Really addictive, I find it almost impossible to stop (just one more day ...). I just hope the DLC is not a rip-off ...

Lost winds is a gem, beautiful graphics and music, and lots of gameplay. A no-brainer for this price.

Dr Mario is next on the list ..

Fixed. :D Changed my router port channel to 11. Time for Toki. :0)

I'm getting my ass kicked by Toki level 10 on the first area. I used my joker to advance to the next area and try some levels.

First levels are very easy, but the challenge ramps up extremely fast after that (or I just suck). Anyway, I'm scared to actually try the so-called 'hard' levels I unlocked when I can't even finish the normal ones. :0) Awesome, awesome game. Get it, it's 100 points cheaper than LostWinds!

to the yuros (And aussies) wondering about FFCCMLAAK.. if you like sim-management games (simcity, theme park, etc) buy it. I have way too many ridiculous hours into that game and actually have to keep myself away from my wii on days when I really don't have time to play.

To put it another way, I bought the game and all DLC for 3100 points and feel I got a bargain. I would have paid $50 for a disc with the exact same content. Easily the best game on WiiWare (which is saying a ton next to Lost Winds).

Yeah, I love LostWinds but MLaaK is the King of hours played/wasted. Sooo addictive.

I love simgames... but I despise Final Fantasy and everything that's got to do with it..... What to do?
easy.. buy the game based on what you'd joy not worrying about stupid things like irrational hatred. :P

Which DLC packs is worth getting? I know I'll buy the dungeon one, but not sure about the rest.
