It's Koi Kaze - drama series with a bit of incestual overtones. :lol

It's an ok anime but not as good as konex makes it out to be.

Just ok? Dude!!!!!

It wasn't bad but you make it seem like it's one of the best let alone best ever.

Yep, exactly. It's like he hasn't seen anything new. Too much pimpage of this anime makes me wanna hate it. :D

I almost picked it up today but I saw Cromartie High School and grabbed that instead.

Maybe I'll include it in my next DVD order if you can assure me there is no brother on sister action.

On a side note have you seen AI YORI AISHI and if so what did you think of it?

I wasn't even aware of his "pimping" as I been gone for a while. I just saw Cloudy's name next to the topic and thought to myself what came out this week that would get him so excited? Koi Kaze!

The first 4 eps were great then the rest is garbage. Don't waste your money cos it's just a VERY POOR ripoff of Love Hina!

Here is my review of Koi Kaze on animenfo.com (the only show I ever wrote a review for...yes, it's that good) I'll just paste the review cos the link might have spoilers from other folks....

It's hard to believe that a show with pedophilic and incestuous undertones (okay, maybe overtones lol) is one of the best shows I've ever seen.

The plot and characters are just so...well..believable. There weren't too many moments where I was like "yeah right". Also, even though it was an interesting take on a touchy subject, they didn't include anything graphic or perverted. I appreciated that a lot. I expected a more dramatic ending but overall I think it was pretty good..and believable.

The animation is really nice. Character design is the first thing I notice in a show and if it's goofy, the plot has to be really good to keep me watching. Koi Kaze was great in that regard.

As far as sound goes, the music is absolutely fantastic. From the Opening theme to the Ending theme to the BGM that plays constantly in each episode. As good as the show was, I enjoyed the music even more. Just really great stuff and the tunes always seemed to fit with the scenes perfectly

If you watch this series with an open mind, you'll probably enjoy it. I personally can't wait for the dvds (and maybe a soundtrack) :)

Konex has exceptionally bad taste in anime.

morphix on the other hand wins for his recommendation.

I disagree, Ai Yori Aoshi might be even better then Love Hina.. atleast it had some kind of development between the main couple.

Koi Kaze is damn good.

The characters are human and act like how real people would in those situations. It's a nice analysis of what societal rules people are willing to break due to love and if they can still survive in that society after breaking them. Art and music is great and the lead Japanese voice actor gives one of the greatest performances I've ever heard (seriously watch a few eps and you'll hear that he is jaw droppingly amazing).

Only downpoint is the ending is a bit rushed and you might not want to watch it if you have a sister (I had a friend who couldn't watch it). I don't have a sister so the show didn't bother me at all, but I could see how it could make some people uneasy.

Just thought I'd mention amazon has a clip of cromartie high school. Watch it and enjoy the dub.

And if you want to buy anime this week get Gantz and Paranoia Agent instead of Koi Kraze. :D

Same here. :lol

I have no faith in Cloudy after seeing him post that he liked REVIEW EPISODE 20 of Destiny. :p

It's awesome, Chrono. Trust me :p

Konex has exceptionally bad taste in anime.

Just because your tastes are polar opposites to his doesn't mean he has exceptional bad taste. I can't name a single irrefutably bad anime that Konex likes. Everything he likes is "you either love or hate it" shows mostly falling in the drama or love comedy categories.

I think all the hate really comes from the fact that Konex dislikes a lot of popular shows. That doesn't mean he has bad taste. Just that his tastes are really limited.

just watched 3 eps of Cromartie High and that shit is hilarious!

One ep just about humming a song, fucking gold!

I like the 15min eps, great fit for Adult Swim.

Koi Kaze is actually a great drama, if you want to ignore the blatant incestual overtones. I swear to god, though, every episode was a tension-fest, waiting for you-know-what.

I liked some animes that Konex also like(d) (ie. Love Hina). The guy pimped that way back and that's cool.

But back then, he is very vocal on the Bebop-hate. Very vocal that it's bordering on flame baiting if I can remember. :p It's like ok, we get it... you(he) likes bad anime... but then he flaunts it like no tomorrow so I dunno. It could just be an act or just confident on what he likes. :lol But hey different tastes for different people. It's all good. I mean it would be boring if everyone here likes the same exact animes that I like.

I still think Bebop sux (the movie was great though but that's another story) :p Just watch Koi Kaze with an open mind and you'll enjoy it. Really! :D

iono, cousin's... maybe MAYBE but even then its already stepping in dangerous territory. It'd be like watching fake or any other shonen ai story.. sure i'm not opposed to it but at the same time i'm not interested in it.

You're too damn serious sometimes Juspell =P.

At any rate, it's a running gag around here. He's so adamant about dislike of the agreed upon good shows (i.e. Bebop. Although I don't think it's the greatest thing ever, even I acknowledge how well done the series is from an objective standpoint), we all unanimously came to the agreement that we needed to label him something, hence bad taste =P. It's also the fact the shows he was pimping at the time aren't terribly keen on most of our sensors.

Also, most of the shows he recommends, I tend to fall into the "hate it" category for any number of reasons. I think they're bad and he likes it for etc etc, hence why I think he has bad taste.

One last thing, If I remember correctly, Konex has been recommending some shitty games to the sports game crowd as of late. So his rep isn't just within anime ;).

On that note YOU ALL MUST GET SERAPHIM CALL, SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY, AND, IF YOU CAN STOMACH IT, MARMALADE BOY! MY MOD POWERS DECREE IT!

Now carry on with the Konex bashing.

Marmalade Boy would have to come pretty heavily recommended (as in, 100% approval or HIGHER) since it's only in boxes at $80+ a whack...

edit - Paranoia Agent 3 is out btw :D

Deepdiscountdvd.com has them at 60 bucks a box. If you order them during a sale, it's 50 per set and so about 200 for all 77 (or something like that) episodes of the series (although box 4 hasn't come out yet). I highly recommend it but it's in the Shoujo camp and you gotta eat a lot of melodrama at times to watch it. The pay off can be quite good though.

Now that is something I can agree with you on! Seraphim Call is totally kickass and more people (who enjoy slice-of-life or character development shows) should watch it. And Sentimental Journey is just as good.

Oh and I'm aware of Konex's apparent bad taste in games, I definately don't see eye-to-eye with him on RPGs, but I generally ignore most gaming discussion. I mostly defend his anime tastes because I enjoy most if not all of the shows he likes, so saying he has bad taste = saying I have bad taste. :p

Then you have bad taste!

Anyway, Seraphim Call and Sentimental Journey is where the whole "Renai game anime" genre should be if you ask me. It has the sweet sappy stuff for folks like me but it doesn't insult the logic center of my brain. It's not that I don't like shows in the genre, but it's the fact that most are done so in a manner that is utterly vile to me. That's near impossible though heh. one thing I do find it funny that SJ and SC are both done by Sunrise, which is a really crazy oddtity.

I dunno, I saw the first ep of SJ years ago and it had to be the most boring ep of anime I've ever watched. I think I fell asleep the first time I tried to watch it and had to re-watch it another day.

But then again I don't like anything based off a renai game. The games can be good but I find all the anime versions boring and pointless.

well not really...yet
Dont buy shit this week and save money for Air Master vol. 1 and 2 next week :)

I may put that on my list, but I'll download afew eps first to see if it's my type.
I'm more into a heavy Action based animes with a good sense of humor that makes me laugh hard. Right now Naruto seems to be number one in my books for what I'm looking for. I've already order it and everything. Can't wait to see eps 101-124.

< shoujo whore!
i need to look into those series, marmalade boy being super old.. i recall listing to the op them like 5+ years ago (while not being into the series). Last major drama i finished was Hana Yori Dango (GOOD! well if you like shoujo).

Just picked up Peach Girl and Boys Be manga same with Peach Girl fansubs. Tokyopop needs to licence Aishiteruze Baby and Ichigo 100% (not really shoujo, fanservice) dammit. Where's my Hot Gimmick #8!?

Most renai game anime are pretty pointless. SJ actually is one of the few that connects to their source material and enhances it as opposed to detract. I could give a nice lowdown about it if you want =o.

Marmalade Boy started in like 93, it's like 12 years old heh. HYD is much more recent. A pretty good series but a lot of the relationship elements of the show aren't great, it's the crazy antics that really fuel it. HYD is also one of those shows that kind of transcend its genre boundaries after being animated (much in the same way that happened with Basara).

Boys Be = Shounen. It is a very good 'Slice of Life" series though but it can be boring if you don't like that sort of thing. The first series of Boys Be is kind of bland, 2nd Season and L co-op are much more fueled IMO.

i dunno about marmalade boy then.. its so old, i might get disgusted at the old animation (like psx games nowadays) the same reason i don't dig og gundam. It seems like main couple are little kids too, thats a downer. Maybe I should finish Maison Ikkoku first instead, which would be the last major drama series out there I think.

Graphics whore =P.

Anyway, the animation can be jarringly dumb (or bad if you want) in Marmalade Boy but it gets the job done. There's some great funny moments though. I also name Marmalade Boy the King of Red Face. There's so much blushing in the series, it's almost ridiculous.

As for the characters, I wouldn't say they're childish, perhaps a bit accurate for their age (most of the time), but not childish. Miki is a klutz and a goofball sometimes but it's what I really like about her character. The writer/author doesn't make any excuses for her and she acts like she should for her age. She doesn't understand her feelings very well and she copes with them in a lot of odd ways that usually ensue with more drama. It's stereotypical romance material but in a lot of ways, it's accurate in a lot of degrees. Yuu is the opposite, cool, reserved and collected most of the time. He's one of the few characters of his type that I really like for many a reason. His way of coping with stuff is pretty interesting at times as well. Then there's the giant cast of other characters that are involved in the show as well. If you ever want to check it out, I could possibly loan it to ya AI (although I'm a bit wary of loaning anything out these days). You're welcome to hang out at my place and watch it though.

I really can't hang in this thread with you guys because I have no familiarity with most of the series you are talking about....

but bebop sucks??? WTF!?!? I have watched the equivalent of many months worth of anime over the last 18 years and to this day Bebop is probably in my top 3.

Cowboy Funk? Comedy gold.
Finding the BetaMAX VCR? I was in stitches..

The Real Folk Blues? Some of the best anime ever written...

you can talk trash about other series in this thread but bebop.. I mean are you a heathen or something?
