Got this from GameCloud, direct from Activision/Infinity Ward:

On the Xbox 360 side, we're also happy to tell you that we're very close to releasing our second Title Update, improving the Xbox Live multiplayer functionality. Here's what's coming in that update:

1. Player Lag has been addressed
2. Private Game Lobbies / Reserved Slots
3. Enable Live Host to set custom game options
4. Map Preferences setting
5. Post Game Lobbies (players at end of match will return to lobby)
6. Enemy Player Name Notification
7. Kick Player (host ability)
8. Lobby Game Type, Map and Host Notification

Again, thank you for your support…and stay tuned for future updates!

Meh, too late. GRAW will replace CoD2 very soon

Hopefully they'll raise player count too, those hacked online games are pretty fun when there's no lag

This is definitely my fave 360 title and as good as GRAW is we are talking about apples and oranges.

COD2 multiplayer is great when it works and having private lobbies and getting control over matches is a Godsend.

Too fucking late. Already returned that piece of shit to EB for a real multiplayer game. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

It's a good feeling knowing that someone will be purchasing that game used and not a dime will go to Activision as a result. Go fuck yourself InfinityWard/Activision. Never again will I be deceived by you.

TRUE. This patch would have been welcomed a month after launch. Not 3 months later.

Even with the fixes I can't see many people playing COD2 instead of GRAW or Battlefield 2 next month.

3 months late yes, but not entirely useless. This is the highest sold 360 game out there, and even with all the crazy glitches, people are still playing it online all the time.

You guys are so very f'ning fickle. I still play CoD2 and I think this patch will make the online play 10x better.

I know some of you tards are going to go back and rebuy it, GRAW or not.

Rebuy it? It's the only game I've kept.

I can't wait for this patch. From the decent games I have managed to play online without problems, I had more fun then Perfect Dark.

Same here, I love COD2 online but it tries so hard to make me hate it. Here's hoping this patch is the real deal.

Uh, the MP is what I bought it for - thinking that I was going to be able to play with friends easily. I was miffed to find out it was a joke online.

IMO, it should have never been released in the state it was. It's unacceptable. I don't care if they think it had to make launch or not. It should have been delayed and done right the first time.

This whole, release now - patch later bullshit blows. I knew this would happen, and said it would, way back before the original Xbox was released, and it has become true.

At this point, I could give a shit about the game being patched. Too little, too late. I've got GRAW coming as well as Oblivion. CoD 2 will be just a bad memory.

That's the way it goes for launch software. It's NEVER polished, always has bugs, and just gets released in whatever state it's in to make launch. Patch or no patch, the game was going to be released buggy, at least now it doesn't have to remain that way, and that IS an objective improvement.

No, just no. There have been plenty of launch titles in the past that were polished and had very few bugs or very minor bugs.

That's not the way it goes for launch software.

This is what burns my ass. Apologizers for mediocrity or people who accept mediocrity because they think they have to.

That's a bit extreme. I could see the animosity if they knew about the problems and did nothing to fix them.

They've gone months since launch without a word on fixing the MP at all. Just recently we get word. Xbox 360 launched in November 2005. We are closing in on March 2006 now. Inexcusable.

I forgot this is the "I want everything yesterday" generation.

Humans make video games. Humans aren't perfect. They're fixing the problem, so you had to wait a few months. Surely there were other games you could be playing in the meantime?

God forbid you're a Duke Nukem Forever fan such as myself. :lol

Did you bother to email Infinity Ward about the problems in order to help fix/bring attention to the issues?

I find alot of people who bitch do little to actually make a situation better.

Not a shot at you, just my opinion.

So what does humans making video games have anything to do with releasing the game before it's actually complete? There is no reasonable way to play the games with friends, and you are booted out to the main interface after every match!

God forbid you're a Duke Nukem Forever fan such as myself. :lol

DNF is only good for making fun of. It's vaporware and George B is a fucktard.

Did you bother to email Infinity Ward about the problems in order to help fix/bring attention to the issues?

Oh, I most certainly did email them, and told them I will be wary in the future of ever buying any of their games as well.

Are you actually suggesting that they weren't aware of the fact that the game had no way, barring exploits, to setup matches and play with your friends? They were not aware that the game had no lobby to create servers, set up game options, and send out invites to your friends so you could play with who you wanted to?

None of the issues had to brought to their attention by anyone. They were fully aware of their shortcomings I am sure. They just made a point to not say anything about them for a very long time.

Once again, we have people making nothing but excuses for developers/publisher.

Why does everyone keep saying GRAW will replace COD2?

COD2 is amazing online when it works. In my opinion, it rivals Halo 2 on Live, and is maybe even better.

Plus, COD2 is a very arcadey/action shooter while GRAW is more about tacticle combat and working with your teammates. Totally different experiences. I will still be playing COD2 online for awhile and am glad to see this update.

Late, but stil necessary.

But considering that IW has faithfully followed Activisions orders to make the launch of the Xbox 360 by rushing the online mode, they shouldn't get patted on the back.

In the future, just make a goddamn complete game.

Yer goddamn right I want the same functionality that I had in most online Live games in 2002. Especially for sixty fucking bucks.

If they fix it, that's a good thing no matter how you look at it. There's no guarantee that GRAW will be perfect in multiplayer right out of the box. The way people talk about GRAW is only setting themselves up for disappointment if it doesn't hold up.

Yes they did actually. Even I did, and I don't even own it. In fact, there was a whole thread about this very issue. Activision in their great wisdom said that the game was not broken, that it was using the basic functions of X360 Live, and that, in a nutshell, they should get used to it.

And yes, humans aren't perfect, but that's no excuse to leave out a damn lobby system that's been in almost every Xbox Live game. That's like leaving the spacebar off of a keyboard. Sure_you_can_do_this,_but_it's_retarded. And then they ship you the spacebar 3 months later, after they said you should deal with it the way it is.

The thread

Activision being a dick said:
What was implemented in Call of Duty 2 is the basic interface to XBox Live. If you would like to play with your friends on Call of Duty 2 you should make sure you are taking advantage of the tools provided to you through the xbox live interface. Make sure you friends are set to approval status AND are on your friends list. XBox Live will attempt to connect you to people who are both your friends and people you have given an approval rating before it tries to match you with random people. You can also try not selecting quick match and specifying game parameters, these parameters will attempt to be matched first and if all of you select the same parameters you are more likely to be put together.

As it stands now there is nothing for Activision to acknowledge. The interface is functional. The tools that you have been provided with work. It's not necessarily what you want and I will certainly make note of that for future reference by us, but at this point the interface is at is is and this is highly unlikely to change now that the game is released. Sorry.

Cute. That this patch is finally coming out when the GRAW train is gearing up speaks volumes for itself.

atleast it will have lobbies and have more than 8 ppl. :lol

honestly remember the COD2 guys were showing off who polished and finsihed the game was and how it was the first 360 game to be "done" :lol

Using the "Invite glitch", I was playing in a buddy's lobby this weekend with 14 people, no lag. This is good news for me.

Yeah, definitely good news. I've been interested in playing a little more of this game online when this patch comes through.

Could you explain this "invite glitch" a little further? How do you do it? I've never even heard of it.

While my friend is setting up a lobby, I send him an invite to play from another game. I am not exactly sure what the exact steps are, but he declines the invite and that somehow makes him host of the lobby in COD2. He has 8000 down and 1000 up so his rooms are very stable. I will likely play GRAW in his rooms.

yeah I played CoD2 last night, and it was virtually lag free. This patch = godsend. too bad it's 1 week before everyone gets GRAW. :(

Huh? What patch? Isn't this patch still in mythical status?

That's their punishment. GRAW. :lol

Yeah, so far it's all just talk. No patch has been released.

Yeah, I don't think the patch has been inserted yet.

I remember thinking the same thing when we all realized how much lag the multiplayer had. Thats the type of thing that just makes you want to slap each of the developers upside their head. Don't run around the gaming world telling everyone how you're launch game is the first one competed, and then ship a product thats buggy as hell online.

first i've heard of this, great news indeed. cod2 will rock online
