Never done this before, but always wanted to make an OT on Gaf.

If you're here you're here and know what the game is. Let's make an attempt to play together this year and laugh and get some dubs.

Anyways, thoughts an hour in:

Feels good so far.
Real goood. MW19 style shenanigans.
Laughing my ass off at least once a game.
Difficult online right now but can see myself getting good.
Dome is the new Shipment.

HDR seems to be borked on Xbox. Looks like SDR with no actual highlights. MW looks much better in HDR on my C9.

Stuck at work so I caved and bought the standard edition.

Colour me surprised, actually had a decent amount of fun with this.

MW19 with a WW2 skin and a slightly higher TTK. Positive.

Do you call this OT ? Lol. ( when you have time add media and info slowly to make it a better OT)

with that being said I bought it on pc.
I really hate WW2 stuff but otherwise the game is solid . It has better optimization than Cold War and still looks miles better.
my 3070 usually get me 2k ultra settings around 140 to 125 frames on 5600x processor . This game ? Locked 144 frames. This is amazingly good.

will I play it for long period of time ? I honestly don’t know . I am prestige 18 in Cold War so we will see.

The maps in this game are kinda mixed for me. But mostly they are really nice. Specially hardcore team death match . There are like 2 maps I couldn’t stand like one of the Japanese levels ..

I've tried all the modes now and there's some good and some bad.

Zombies has previously been the mode I'd spend countless hours with along with a couple of mates, but after just one hour playing this I cant see myself coming back to it until they add a regular round based map. It's easy, open and directionless, and makes me miss the days of starting in a claustrophobic space armed only with a pistol.

Campaign, I've only played the first two levels. Both of which are set at night so those OLED owners are going to have to pull down the blackout blinds if they want to see anything other than themselves reflected in the screen! Seems fairly run-of-the-mill so far but hoping we'll get a standout level on par with All Ghillied Up or Safe House.

Multi-player. This is where I've spent most time and my positive impression of this has grown. Suffering the after action showcase was initially really irritating (especially early on when the majority of players look identical anyway), but I've set filters to only play Free-For-All and because that's not team based you don't have to watch these tedious clips or vote for who played best. You can also choose three different settings to alter the player cap, and again - switching to 'Blitz' which has the highest population per map ensures that the action is really frenetic and fun. Being able to shoot apart certain sections of wall and a slightly higher gore level from previous CODs help this feel visceral and the moment-to-moment gunplay remains best in class.

More than ever, COD is going to be a work in progress and will hopefully get better as more content is added throughout the year.

My internet has been crap for a month but this game seems to be REALLY sensitive to it.. i keep getting "packet burst" red alert messages on screen. Experiencing severe rubber banding in the game which feels similar to my play with Apex Legends and Warzone. So... I guess i have something to reference when i'm talking about my Apex and Warzone woes? It's weird because Cold War and Destiny 2 are mostly butter smooth in comparison. What is the freakin difference here?

Ive heard a lot of compalints from the beta were looked into, and the general consensus is it feels more inline with mw19 (which im totally ok with).

funny how sledgehammer has been really showing up treyarch (yes i prefer ww2 over the last two black ops)

i may have to grab a copy

I'm enjoying it but the weapons have 10 perk slots is a bit nuts. Guns are straight trash for the first 15 levels then you can really start getting a feel for them.

Played last night and found the controls more floaty than any other COD before. I may have to play with the settings for the first time ever and if it doesn't tighten things up I just threw money down the toilet. After playing for 15 mins I switched back to black ops

Played a good 2-3 hours of the campaign (on PS5). Liking it so far. Love the WW2 setting. Story is a bit meh but it controls well and looks fucking amazing. There is one area with a burning windmill at night and the lighting is stunning.

Haven't delved into Zombies yet but had a couple of multiplayer games and seems good so far. Really enjoying my time with this game so far and hoping it can hold my interest for longer than the previous (recent) COD games have.

Feels exactly like Modern Warfare. It's basically MW with a WWII skin, albeit a WWII skin that, once again, has little regard for historical lore in favor of the same clown show we've had with COD ever since Fortnite turned every arcade shooter into a glorified casino.

Really having a good time with the multi; games are fast, it's furious in blitz mode, and has generally fun maps. However, FUCK the ending clips... I think people are trolling that shit now as no one votes for E/D or Multikill anymore, only Most Time w/Allies or some other gonzo stat. Which is fucking hilarious...

Only played one match.

- TTK is lowest ever in a COD game
- The end match MVP voting is dumb as hell. Bogs down the game and the animations are the same. A multi kill is an elbow to the head

COD devs think they're making Band of Brothers.

When they're really making Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.

I don’t buy CoD every year but I grabbed this on a whim and have been having a lot of fun with it today. Looks great, feels great.

Does the multi feel heavy and "realistic" like 2019 or arcade like Cold War? Or somewhere in between.
I think it’s in between. The clunky and heavy feel of MW is gone so it’s much smoother but not as fast as CW.

Overall, I’m really enjoying the game so far - much more than my initial play with MW. The campaign has been great, too.

Sadly, zombies is pretty lackluster. I put 18 days into CW zombies itself and I’m pretty let down from what this game has.

I had 2-3 hour session today where I just spent some double XP on the Automaton (absolute beast of a gun) and had a ton of fun with the game. Playing on Blitz it's MW but absolutely cracked out on speed and frenetic action. I think the combat pacing where you can play the same modes with different player counts is something that seemed stupid but is actually a great idea. When you want Shipment-like chaos you can have it, and when you want to slow things down and think a little more about where enemies are going to be and how your gun is really handling, you can go back to classic 6v6. So it goes some variety to your play session.

The beta made it seem like the game was absolutely not ready to launch but it's actually a really decent COD, I don't know if that build was old or if they just managed to polish it a lot before launch. It doesn't really push the series forward at all like MW2019 did, but if you're a COD fan I think you will definitely have fun with this. I like it more than CW so far.

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help.

*Campaign only*

I thought Modern Warfare 2019 played amazingly. Slick, satisfying, weighty and fun. I loved it. I believe they redid the engine after all those years of PS3 and PS4 CODs?

So I play the new Cold War that came after this game, expecting good things and....... it played like shit! Genuinely not fun, a slog, no weight or feedback to the gunplay. Did they go back to the old engine or something? Even if they did I remember older entries being much better than this. Hmm.

Did anyone else feel like this?

So I wonder what Vanguard plays like. MW or Cold War? Do we know anything about the engine?

Cold War used the old engine, so yeah it played like arse compared to MW. Vanguard uses the MW engine so it plays real nice.

Lovely. I knew it felt different to play. Even though it's only a 5hr campaign I think I will get it in this case, I usually play it twice anyway in differing difficulties.

Hopefully all new CODs be using the newer engine from now on, do we know?

Liking this a lot. Blitz pacing can be a bit too chaotic. They need to tone it back just a tad but the feeling of the game and guns is top notch. The lack of maps problem is non existent but not every map is great.

Campaign is good. It follows a main plot point throughout that's far easier to follow than MW and cold war for me. I was utterly bored with BOCW story.

I think MW had the better variety in terms of every mission had its own feel. Not the case with Vanguard but I enjoyed its story for what it is. Not gonna blow your mind but its fun.

So I was originally going to pass on this, but it seemed to be getting some favourable reviews from people. Plus, I hadn’t picked up a new game in awhile so thought why not.

Now, I use to consider myself pretty decent at COD. It wasn’t uncommon to find me in the top leaderboards in a multiplayer match, but my days I am getting my backside handed to me. I hope it’s not because I’ve aged a bit since my COD prime.

It really feels like I am missing a trick. It just seems like everyone is snapping to my head with the reaction speeds of a cheetah. I have had a few good games, but I also feel like if you‘re not running an SMG or assault rifle you might as well call it a day. The snipers and marksmen riffles I am really struggling with.

Plus, the big red name tags above people as soon as you aim at them. I feel like that needs toning down a bit - it feels impossible to hold a stealth position in the grass because you have a huge marker floating above your head. I’ve found myself shouting a few times, “Hacker!“ when I’ve watched the kill cams back. Honestly, I knew people were good but I do feel like I’ve met some god tier players today.

I’ll continue playing, but I suspect that if it continues then I’ll probably not bother. The maps and guns all look great, but it is just massively chaotic for me. I am not sure what I expected - I had a blast with Warzone and Modern Warfare.

Had fun with the campaign, pretty much played through it in one sitting. It was a lot better and more interesting than I expected, especially considering I'm not really into WWII. The generic looking characters actually had some decent stories and personalities. Got me pretty excited for multiplayer, until I played it.

Multiplayer is probably one of the worst shooters I've ever played. I have over 1,000 hours in Warzone and I've quit to desktop during most of the Vanguard games I've played so far.

Visibility is terrible whether the game is maxed out or on lowest settings.
Audio is still horrible, enemy footsteps still being pretty much non-existent.
ADS bloom is absolutely fucking horrific and should not exist. If my reticle is on somebody's head, bullets shouldn't be fanning around it. Especially when aim assist is a thing and 90% of these kids are using it. Makes this game even worse for people on mouse.
Can't slide cancel as frequently as in Warzone. You have to wait after performing it once before doing it again. We finally have engine parity between CoD and WZ again, yet they decide to change a fundamental mechanic.
Most walls are made out of cardboard, seemingly for the sake of destructibility, which results in brain-dead players randomly wall-banging for who the fuck knows what.
Most deaths are accompanied by "what the fuck just killed me?" rather than "nice shot."
Can't go 15 seconds without a fucking grenade you either need to dodge or toss back.
The weapons are not interesting. There might as well be one weapon in each category because they all feel like the same rickety piece of WWII shit, at least the ones I've used so far.
Camera shake is horrific, even when turned to the minimum setting of 50%. Probably not an issue for kids who use aim assist.
The game overall feels like a shit-fest of random grenades and stray bullets. It's as if there's a "CoD bullshit" meter in their engine and they cranked it all the way up.

I keep going back to give it another chance but end up having a horrible experience. As much as I can't stand Treyarch's engine, I found Cold War to be way more playable than this.

I'll probably use shipment to level up weapons for Warzone and that's about it, unless they manage to fuck that game up even more with Vanguard's implementation. Next year should be infinitely better if the rumors of another Modern Warfare are true.

I've been suing the grand also exclusively and it took a good 15 levels before I felt like I could really do damage with it. Most weapons seem to need some time before they are usable.

I'm in gentlemen, let's see how this runs. Big fan of Shipment + Hardcore, so don't mind a fast paced game from time to time. Let's go!

I'm someone who has stuck to MW2019. I did not like Cold War, gun play is nowhere near as good as MW. I played the Vanguard beta extensively and had pretty much same experience and feeling as what you've said. So it sounds like it hasn't changed much since the beta? And to say Cold War is a lot more payable is saying something.

I'm waiting for a cheap physical copy so I can just play the campaign and on-sell.

Shoot me straight, anyone with significant time in Cold War, how does this stack up? Is it worth the switch?
Played Cold War a lot this is similar but this has a little more realistic graphics. This runs really good for only being out a few days. I prefer Vanguard slightly. You’ll like it.

Ive played about 4 hours of multiplayer of this ww2 game and not shot one nazi yet.
I heard the reason for this is because the German M35 helmets and Hugo Boss uniforms are considered offensive to many, specifically among men who drink copious amounts of soy per day.
