I know there's been a number of duplicate topics such as a European Championship topic & FIFA Club World Cup in General Discussion, but I'm hoping we can keep everything under one roof as it's much easier to follow rather than wonder who posted what and in which topic. Community topic in the Community forum.

The previous football topic covered last season to see how many football fans we have, and it was very popular with over 1200 posts. Instead of creating a new one every season, this one can cover it all until it gets too big that the mods decide it needs a new one.

I'm going to tag some of the previous topics contributors below, feel free to 'watch' this new thread for notifications.

Sorry if I missed anyone, I just looked for the most regular recent posters.

The new season starts for most leagues soon, some have started already.

The English Community Shield is on Sunday 10th August at 15:00 BST between Liverpool & Crystal Palace

Cheers mate. Can't wait for the new season to start

Man U fan here. Praying for a top half finish this season. Very happy if we get Sesko, but I still think we need a solid midfielder and a keeper to even have a sniff at top 6. It'll hopefully help that we aren't in Europe this season.

Excited nonetheless.

Agreed. I think Utd have made some decent signings, but are still short.
I hope we land Eze at least before the window closes. Up The Arsenal ❤️
He's a very good player and will be a great signing. I think Liverpool are going to have too much. Unfortunately, they have strengthened well.

Cheers, not much now until kickoffs. Very excited for the new era with Xabi at Madrid and all the youngsters.
And of course it's gonna be a brutal season yet again with World Cup to top it off.

If Arsenal don't win the league this year then they need a change at the top. Their team has had enough time to get, know each others movements etc and they have a top quality player in every position now (It's about time they bought a striker).

Yes Man City and Liverpool will be up there but Liverpool haven't had as long to gel (lots of new incomings) and City are still an aging team.

Chelsea could be a surprise (World champions afterall :messenger_tears_of_joy: ) but I can't see anyone else challenging for the top.

Man Utd will be competing for the Europa League, maybe 4th of we're lucky. (Or rather, if others are unlucky and get a lot of injuries).

Liverpool fan here, i didn't think we would win the league last season in Slot's first and didn't expect the transfers we have had this summer, i'm buzzing for the new season and hope we are challenging for silverware, happy Kopite at the minute.

Nice one, buddy.

Another thought, have we ever had a Gaf FPL League? That would be great, but I'm not sure how many teams can enter a league?

I think Liverpool had it in the bag last season purely because most other big sides in the league were pretty poor compared to their usual standards. I still think Liverpool are the favourites this season because they've bought some cracking players, but I reckon it'll be a tighter fight for the prem this season. Arsenal, City and Chelsea have strengthened well.

For Utd, I think we'll be fighting for top 8. We may do even better, but only because some of the other teams around that area will suffer (losing top players to other teams) this season. Fifth would be a minor miracle after last season, but we've bought pretty well so a man can dream 😂

Good idea, I've already got a team so I can look into it and create a league for those who want to join it. I was in a league last season that had about 150, so I think we should be ok for numbers.

I would agree to an extent, Liverpool didn't play well in the last 2 months of the season except against Spurs, but then again they didn't have to as no one did your right, Forest dropped off in the last 10 games like jumping off a cliff and lost nearly every game, they were 2nd at one point, you can never tell with new players they have to gel and play well and we need a central defender or maybe 2, i think and hope we will do well, but nothing is garenteed.

I don't know about Utd this season, is Amorim the right manager, Ten Hag wasn't very good either, are all those players up for sale, doesn't seem a happy squad to be honest i think Eddie Howe would be a really good manager for United, he would get Utd back up there, that might upset those Geordies even more lol

Have you played three at the back so far under Alonso?
I guess kind of at one time at least, when Tchouaméni dropped back to CB and Fran Garcia + Trent roamed on the sides.
But it was all rather situational with the defender red cards and Rudiger/Militaio only returning from injury during the CWC. I'd definitely bet we'll see more of this when everybody is available.

Anyway there are so many questions still, and honestly I just hope Alonso will bench the shit out of Vini or Mbappe if they don't press as everyone else + nowhere near the amount of injuries from last year, and we're good!

I think the Geordies would descend on Manchester with Pitchforks if that happened 😂
Ten Hag had the personality of a damp dishcloth. You need to have a strong character to manage Utd, and I genuinely think that Amorim is a good fit. Nothing to back that up with yet, but I think we'll see a big improvement this season.

I live near Newcastle, i know what their like lol, your right again, they are zealots,

Yeah, this season is going to be interesting, i'm really looking forward to it, i wonder if the 3 promoted sides will go back down again and with Leeds being one of them as well who are a big club from the past, but still have a big support. also Sunderland as well, now if they beat the toon this season, more pitchforks lol.

I think Brentford and Bournemouth could struggle this season, certainly not the same force as last year. Wolves too. It's a good opportunity this year for the newly promoted teams. Sunderland seem to be spending some decent money so they have a good shout, as do Leeds.

Not only will we have Newcastle vs Sunderland to look forward to, but Leeds vs Utd is always a feisty affair. It's going to be a banger season I reckon.

yeah the old rivalries are going to be renewed, really looking forward to this season. Brentford have lost a lot of their good players, Wissa has gone on strike apparently and wants a move to Newcastle, they will struggle for sure

It was only somewhat recently that I heard that Newcastle fans get annoyed at Manchester United being the team that gets called United instead of them. Being a United fan can be like having this M. Bison "but for me it was a Tuesday" type thing, where you're discovering that other fans have these long-standing grudges against your team that you weren't even aware of.

As for Amorim, I like him a lot. You get the sense there's a tactical vision there but also the kind of charismatic presence you need to be in charge.

Just realized it's been 10 years since 2015–16 Leicester City season, wonder when's the next time we see some crazy shit like that.
It feels like it's harder than ever. Although I probably would have said that back then. But you've got teams like Brighton and Brentford who, because of their owners, have become just as good if not better than the big teams at using data in their recruitment. So maybe one of them can string together a few great signings, like Leicester had with Kante, Mahrez and Vardy, and hold onto them long enough to make a title challenge at a point where the bigger teams aren't that strong. Liverpool were good last season but I felt it was a pretty weak season for everyone else. So yeh, hard to see it happening but you never know if the circumstances are right.

Anyone watched the Birmingham City documentary on Amazon?

It's a documentary about football. Don't let the team you support affect you enjoying a documentary about a football team you don't support…

Premier League rights were snatched by a shitty streaming service in my country.

giphy.gif
Some shite doing the rounds that premier league are looking at streaming all games (not UK obviously because of the 3pm blackout) for around £10 a month.

Per team that is. So if you wanted to watch all of Bournemouth's premier league games, you can pay £10 a month because of course, why wouldn't you 😂

Would that stop IPTV? Doubt it.

I have a team ready to go. Well, almost anyway. Waiting to see what new signings come in. I'll finalise it Thursday.

If you do make a league, tag me please as soon as you do. I don't want to miss it!

Yeah, I mean of course it is very hard, basically definition of underdog. But hey we've seen Nottingham this year going strong until they didn't, the other year there was Girona in La Liga, so you know this is bound to happen every now and then somewhere, just be it in any of the mainstream leagues for us to talk about it.
At the end of the day no amount of money will buy guaranteed titles, so there is always a chance even if it's ever so slim.

True, Forest did have a good run last year but weren't able to keep it up. With Girona, it is worth pointing out they're part of City Group. So although Man City are the focus Girona are still part of a huge, well funded machine.

Lille winning Ligue 1 a few years back was a pretty remarkable achivement too.

The league is made, just waiting for it to be approved as it goes through moderation to check for any dodgy/abusive names etc.

Once it's approved I'll post the joining code on here.

Yeah the thing is even if these team have a good run, win or not.. next thing you see half the team is sold so yeah, that certainly makes it even more difficult. So even though Girona might be financed well, my guess is we won't see them up there any time soon.

I think Bournemouth will be fine. They need a CB (Ilya Zabarnyi is 100% off to PSG) and another striker badly, but Iraola is a decent enough manager to keep them up.

Brentford could be in a relegation dog fight. Thomas Frank worked wonders with that squad and I'm not sure how well they'll do without him at the helm.

I wonder how easy it would be to set up a NeoGaf Fantasy Football group this year?

See below. T8SC is on it!

You absolute legend 🙌

Portuguese united fan here, my love for the club have been detailed in some pages back. Amorim coming over re-ignited. Hes an awesome couch and im not even a sporting fan lol

Talking about united sesko seems to be locked but there is something aboit hojlund that i think he's yet to florish. That being said they need a good midfielder, Casimiro is getting old and ugarte is just not good enough.

They also need a keeper but it unless onana is sold they are not getting a new one.
There is talks about donnaruma but i dont think it will happen.

Last thing the club should do is to get rid of the boyband (as i like to call them) , unfortunally rasford went on loan so united will have the ssme problem next year but the rest should go asap , specially now that the team is back in the uk so that they dont have any contact.

Amorim has a really hard job in the first six games but i think he has gained the trust of the locker room which i dont think he had last year.
