Have you been out in the cold much recently or have you walked around in soggy shoes/socks for an extended period of time? Symptoms? Cut your nails?

NEGATIVE

CLUE: It's making me limp. DIAGNOSE!

EDIT: I don't usually let my toenails grow so hideously long. I've been busy and tired.

The big toe looks broken, those fuckers hurt, it's hard as hell walking with any broken toes, but moreso the big toe.

You need to amputate STAT before it spreads to the rest of your body.

I'd advise utilising your nearest meat cleaver.

That looks terrible.

Did you drop anything on your foot, stub the toe, or did you one day wake up one day and it looked like that?

The oozing liquid thing may be due to an infection, and limping around doesn't bode well.

I would go see a podiatrist, or at the very least a general practioner.

It may be a fungal infection.

More to the point -- even if someone on GAF nails (no pun intended) the correct diagnosis, you're still going to need to go to a doctor for treatment...so why not just go now and save a step?

haha. I was kidding about the liquid thing, I was just trying to make MAF choke on his food and die face down in his (probably) childrens cereal so I would have to endure very slightly less DS hating.

The night before it looked much worse. that nasty red shit at the top went all the way down to where my big toe actually started.

It's the end product of dropping a 37kg UPS battery on my toe. AT WORK. At the start of 9 hours of maintenance work that I had to do by myself. I had to lift this heavy shit with what felt like a busted toe, all bloody night. I'm not going to a doctor though. My bodies just gonna fix this bad boy. Today I ran some of the way to work. It hurts again now.

God damn it, I told you to go to the doctor awhile ago. GO

Doctors cost like 60 bucks and I'm pretty sure the GAF diagnosis is FREE!

not an infection.... YET

Fuck the doctor put some Gold Bond on that shit... and if you're ghetto pour some "Tussin" on that shit and wait for the nail to fall off... Pour some "mo-Tussin" on that until the nail grows back. Good as new.

I'm in NZ I don't have these products, can you suggest a substitute?

So far, for the weekend just been, I've tried getting blind drunk 2 times and walking around/dancing on it, which works for a while. but about 8 hours after applying the remedy It hurts worse again.

Looks like infection from an insect bite. Kill all insects in the region and put some Benadryl and/or Neosporin on it.

Looks like you been wearing tight socks for a month straight. :x

haha the work socks lines are due to having taken off my socks about 1 second earlier. The bad quality photo actually makes my foot look a fair bit mankier than it really is. (red mystery thing not withstanding.....)

I've heard that bleach works well at killing nail infections...but it makes your skin incredibly dry.

Take some omega 3s somehow (ie fish oil, flax oil). They strengthen nails.

As for the red toe, I'm guessing insect bite or it was stepped on.

Your nuts donkey your toe could be broken, I'm not sure what NZ health insurance is like but it happened at work so couldn't you get the company to pay for it?

GO TO A DOCTOR!!!

Yeah, because instead of going to Dr. Soandso who can actually help you, the free advice of MAF and Matlock is gonna help so much. :lol

This is one of the funniest threads I've read on GAF in a while...thanks for the laughs y'all =)

BTW, see a doctor bro.

Grandma's recipe for all foot related problems: disolve some sodium carbonate (ordinary household cleansing soda) in water and soak your foot in it for half an hour or so. Repeat this a few days and all should be fine.

To be absolutely sure you could just cut your toe off.

Please don't it's just a joke.

The red colour indicates either a strong dilatation of blood vessels, possibly even a huge activity of mast cells which would indicate an inflammation. Could leave a scar if you wait for too long. Or the blood vessels are destroyed, which I consider is less probable since the toe should be more blueish by now. Either way, see a doctor to avoid an intoxication. Destroyed tissue produces some pretty nasty substances, you know.

You dropped something on your foot. It hurts and is red now and you need a diagnosis? Are you really that daft. It is decently inflamed. Put ice on it a few times a day and take some ibuprofen. Give it approximately a week. If it gets no better then it might be broken. Given that it is broken, you might want to get it looked at as you don't want the bones to heal improperly.

If you really don't want to see a doc...and you're able to dance on it, I suggest putting it in a bucket of ice water. 15 minutes in, and 15 minutes out for 2 hours. Do this everyday for about 5 or 6 days. Should help the swelling and pain (but man will your foot be cold). You will probably lose the nail, but from the looks and sound of it you'll be alright.

Also, if you can get some Polysporin, get it and apply liberally to prevent infection and speed healing.

still going! awesome

Update for diagnosis: My toe is much less red now, there is just a little redness around the bottom of the nail, I think I'm gonna pull through! It does hurt if I push on anywhere above the joint in the middle of my toe though.

Wait a second, aren't doctors free to go to in NZ?

You can go to the hospital and wait in line (for about 3 hours) but a GP costs 45-60 bucks to go see.

It's always funny how people don't read things before they post, it makes for amusing talk.

Catfish:
"Yeah, I dropped a fuckoff battery on my toe"

Idiot:
"Hmm yes, looks like a rather bad insect bite to me"

Duh.
