I don't really need a built-in hard drive and stuff, just basically a vcr that records to dvd... only with a good interface, which is reliable, and won't break in a year or so.
I'd probably get either a Panasonic or a Pioneer. They're good, cost around $230, and should work fine for you. All depends what sort of re-writable media you plan to use. I have a Panasonic, and I like it.
