The boomerang shaped PS3 thing they showed at E3 was only a prototype now that they have seen the Revolution controller what is stopping them from saying hey we like the Revolution controller let's rip off Nintendo's idea?

No. I like Sony's direction and I like Nintendo's direction for innovation with the controller, keep one seperate from the other.

:lol :lol right...

Anyway I think PS3 will be fine with it's Eyetoy 2 that's pretty much doing the same thing in certain areas (ie tracking movement).

Lakitu, the rev remote can transform into a regular controller with shells, as far as I know.

Forget next-gen.
Nintendo just set the standard for next-next-gen.

When the retarded kid comes to school wearing a pair of underpants on his head, do all the cool kids follow suit?
Damn... harsh but funny :lol

It feels silly playing games the "normal" way now. Thanks Nintendo!

Honestly, I don't see how MS and Sony can compete with each other with their insane prices and also have to take on this new beast that is Nintendo.

If Sony or MS doesn't copy, they'll find themselves left behind. Developers will embrace the Revoution as well as a lot of new gamers. With the price range of the Xbox360 and PS3, many people will wonder why they hell would they want a system that doesn't do anythign new.

Also, the Revolution looks a hell of a lot cooler than the PS3 and Xbox360, the system makes them look like toys. :lol

HELLO, CALLING THE LOL PATROL, SEND IN A ROOFLECOPTER :lol

But seriously, Nintendo has a neat idea and it'll be good for Nintendo games and certain very specific genres.

But NOBODY is copying it in its current form.

All the PS3 fanboy "it's retarded and Sony won't copy it" comments aside, I honestly think that Sony will copy it. Judging from the reactions from the non entrenched fans so far and Drinky's prolific posts as well as my own judgement, I think Nintendo has found something truly 'revolutionary' that no one has really thought of that is also very functional.

The simplest example I can think off the fundemantally different ways people could be swinging a sword in a Revoltion and PS3/Xbox360. And it also opens up the home consoles for heavily mouse dependent games that have never worked well on with a traditionally controller. Strategy games comes to mind, and I'd love to wave that controller around like Tom Cruise in Minority report to point at options, planets, and units in a hypothetical space 4x game.

No, they can't, because they actually want 3rd party games on their system.

This comment doesn't compute at all. Are you saying that third parties don't want inovation and like how the market is shrinking and seeing their profits are vanishing due to lower sales and higher production values?

Or are you saying that people won't buy the revolution, when every indicator out there says that this is exactly what the industry needs and exactly what a lot of people want. The success of Eye Toy, DS and other genres that break the norm prove that this is what people want.

Third parties are loving the Revolution, hell they might abandon the Sony and MS if the Revolution really picks up for monetary reaosns.

for starters, eyetoy2 is not the standard controller.

So Sony provide the gimmicky controller as an add-on, Nintendo innovate it into the primary controller. GO NINTENDO!

No, really. Go.

I was just gonna say the samething... but you said it better so I'll just quote it. :D

Stop, stop, STOP.

Yes it's innovative that Nin has a gyro controller for the Rev... yes 1st party titles will definitely take advantage of it and they'll put together some interesting things.

3rd party is going to be a HUGE question mark.. because we don't know either way how many developers are going to tailor titles specifically for this controller, nor do we know yet how they'll handle multi-plat conversions(though from the little I've read on this a more standard controller or connector to make it more standard like will also be release?).

"Mass" developer defections tend to happen before the gen... usually not during.

For once, I disagree. Well, at least, it will be a while before Sony copies it. Maybe they will only copy the movement sensor thing, but not the whole remote idea. I think the remote idea is just pure genious to get non-gamers playing games. Seriously.

Jack Thompson will love that "This videogame teaches your children how to swing a sword!"

Sony is already hard at work on doubling the single remote into, count 'em, two remotes. Each with an analog stick attachment making four controller inputs. In each hand! Plus two!

Sony won't copy it. Guaranteed. And if they happen to implement some sort of gyro control into a 2010 PS3 controller revision, or a PS4 controller... it's not going to be in the Rev form. It won't be a remote control.

Why does Sony need to copy when they already have something place. Also, looking from the way it functions, it looks like Nintendo copied Sony, but in their own way.

Exactly, because the remote doesn't look like a goofy toy like the Xbox360/PS3 pad.

Hell, a bet a lot of people will accidently pick up the Rev controller not realizing what it is, any seeing how they just minuplated the screen when they moved it.

"OMGWTF" is the first thing they'll say.

Didn't Kaplan say in an interview not long ago that the tech has been patented to prevent copying?

If so, will they start suing if companies use gyro Tech in their controllers without paying royalties to Nintendo?

I know Nintendo NEVER sue when companies make products using Nintendo patents.
Will that change?

Please no. I really don't want to play swinging my arms in the air. I'm too lazy, and a comfortable joypad with only my fingers and thumbs moving is all I need to play...

Riiiight. :lol

Is it possible, that even though their standard, default controller will be of the traditional design, perhaps both Sony and MS could simply release peripheral controllers to mimic all of the functions of the Revo controller, and thus negate/undermine any advantage Nintendo would have?

Everyone keeps saying they gotta do HUGE swinging motions to play games.
Journalists have already stated that you don't need that much movement.
Just a flick of the wrist, and you've done something.
The controller is super sensitive according to what I've read.

Yeah i guess, if you like turning a standard external dvd drive on it's side so that it stands upright.

This industry has lost its way.

Bring on the clones & sequels i say!

It would be funny if the first games to show off this remote/controller are versions of Wario Ware, and Nintendogs. :lol

Anyway, gimmicks are nice and all, but not when they're the main thing. Sure, games made for the controller might be fun (just like games made for the Eyetoe), but so few buttons, it doesn't really work as an adequate "normal" controller. I can't imagine how one could play a game like MGS with it.

Hell, you're naive if you think you can play a game like Soul Calibur on it just by swinging the thing. Have you seen the move list for that game? How about the extreme preciseness of the timing of moves?

Just imagine porngames with this "stick" technology. Im pretty sure we guys will rock at them! :D
I'm not too excited about that idea... Now, if it was a hentai dating game with a nice 'minigame', HELL YEAH!!!! GO NINTENDO!!!!

You do also know Sony also own patents on some forms of motion-sensing technology? Ever heard of Sony's famous robot QRIO? That robot alone features some of Sony's own patented motion-sensing tech.

man o man, you kids are black and white with this thing. I want the revolution, cause i dont want 3 systems that play the exact same games. i'll get a ps3 and revo and i think a lot of people will do the same.

also, i dunno what that guy was smoking by saying the DS sold really well. i'm pretty sure everyone on here has seen the ds bomb in europe and kinda bomb in the US. also, no ones gong to leave sony or ms just to design for nintendo, thats just crazy talk.

but i think it is interesting on seeing which developers devote more time to revolution due to lower costs. if they have more money to spend, i suppose that means more polished games instead of half-assed GTA rip-offs.

No but if he comes with a knife instead the cool kids follow. :/

Because frankly, who needs threads with actual content when we can speculate to our heart's content.
