That forum wide ski vacation package.

Nah, it's pretty funny in the right situation.

Plus it would clog up the search on Twitter for "Neogaf" with annoying comments.

It's only obnoxious after several repeated, serious uses. When a user repeatedly uses the term, it's time to stop. There are certain uses of it implying irony that I'm fine with.

I see it almost always used in either a sarcastic or affectionately playful manner on GAF. I'm fairly sure the term is used to mock idol culture, and am especially sure that "husbando" is absolutely a joke term mocking idol culture.

I'm all for subjective banning of people derailing threads by objectifying women, but banning a word often used to mock the people who tend to hold such objectionable views won't solve anything.

To the OP's discredit I can't think of a time when it wasn't used tongue-in-cheek. Maybe that's where the dislike comes from? It's a word solely used for jokes.

If I want to call it...a word?

Last time I checked, it's not in the dictionary, and this is an English speaking forum. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shouldn't the aim be against sexualization then instead of focusing on a word?

True, the word itself is not the problem; it's the culture that permeates it. The topic title was more of a rhetorical question, but I didn't expect people to read past it anyway. Such is the nature of discourse on the internet. Realistically, you're never going to be able to ban the word. Believe me, I've accepted that. But I think it's important to have this discussion and ask ourselves why we're still using this terminology. Are we trying to be cute? Are we trying to be funny? Generally speaking, I thought that a more civilized forum like NeoGAF would be above this... at least when it comes to the gaming side. Context is very important.

See, this is different because you posted the word in an anime related thread. That's why I avoid them like the plague. It's also in the community section, where a more laissez faire approach is to be expected, and frankly, encouraged. However, it's particularly annoying on the gaming side, because every OT for any game that has multiple female characters automatically turns into an opportunity for some of the more... deviant members to project their sexuality onto the rest of NeoGAF. People taking "ownership" of characters as if they're nothing more than sex objects. It doesn't add anything to the discussion. It just makes people feel uncomfortable. I'd like to hear from some of female members and see what they think.

Maybe he's talking about the Persona/Fire Emblem threads, I understand it's a real problem there!

You do realize that the term "waifu" is used to avoid the sexualization and objectification of female characters and meant to express that they feel true love towards their 2d characters

"waifu" is literally wife spoken in broken english
