Can we talk about how AWESOME Trigun (anime) is?

So out of sheer boredom, I decided to rewatch Trigun for the first time. I remember really enjoying my initial viewing of it, especially the 2nd half of the show when the plot and tone undergo a dramatic shift.

While seeing it again.... man, there are some scenes that STILL send chills down my spine.

All those moments when Vash goes from clumsy oaf to *puts on shades* "Vash the Stampede!!!" really hammer home the two-faced-ness of the character (which is kinda a thing for most of the cast really). Also, I really liked how, often times, the outcome of battle usually leaves him scarred in some way.

While I don't want to get too much into it... I just want everyone to know that this is one of my favorite scenes in all of anime.

Admittedly, I've never read the manga, and I've heard it's pretty different from the anime adaption (due to the series still being in publication during the time of the anime's production). However, I admire Madhouse mixing it up a bit and delivering a complete story with a (mostly) satisfying conclusion of its own. It's no masterpiece, but it's a damn entertaining show to watch.

What do you think, GAF? Am I crazy?

I am exactly the opposite.

The first half was funny, had cool moments and showed how Vash was a Jack Sparrow before Jack Sparrow type of character. It was unique for it's time ...

The second half was just .... more generic anime =P

I didn't like the back half as much but really enjoyed the series. My brother and I owned the OST as well.

I loved it back when I first watched it. I watched it again a couple years ago and it really wasn't as good as I remembered. The first half of the show is an absolute chore to get through, and the ending is seriously lackluster.

But that 10-12 episode stretch from
Legato's introduction to his death
is still phenomenal.

It was annoying how they dealt with Legato. Like, clearly
there was no way Vash could've beaten him, so they just had him kill himself.
Even Knives ended up looking weak compared to him.

That was the entire point of his mission though.
He wasn't supposed to kill Vash. He was supposed to break his will and corrupt him.

I don't know how someone could hate that scene. It was perfect.

I liked it overall but I really didn't like the latter half of the show since it seemed like padding for the finale. However, the very last episode is still my favorite even if it made me go WTF at the revelations. The movie is also great.

Yeah, there are a few moments in the first half the show that almost put me to sleep. There's some genuinely funny comedy thrown in, but it was getting a bit stale later. Thankfully, that's exactly when
Legato makes his appearance and makes Vash seriously suffer
. Just how much the stakes were raised with each passing episode made me really feel the desperation.

For the longest time I was hoping they'd make another series that was basically Trigun Brotherhood and followed the manga story much closer. Then I read the manga and well yeah maybe not so much anymore with that idea.

Really enjoyed the show and love Vash. I was so glad to find out there was a lot more Trigun to be had with manga series as it continued for like 9 more years after the show had ended, and I loved it too.

no love for Wolfwood?

Really loved it back in the day but yeah it isn't very good. The show is pretty low budget and a lot of episodes are subpar.

The best things about the show are the setting, art and characters.

Its no Outlaw Star but it was a good anime. Used to be super overrated but thats died down in recent years.

After reading the manga I tried watching it again and couldn't enjoy it. I just prefer how the manga goes, I'd rather re-read that.

Going from seeing the incredibly heavily edited version of Outlaw Star that was shown on Toonami after school every day and the actual uncensored Japanese version years later was certainly an eye opener. That hot springs planet was basically fan service the episode. That and the series was twice as long as they cut out entire episodes.

The hot springs episode was the only one completely cut out.

It's a fantastic anime until the last two episodes where it very awkwardly jams in a finale kind of abruptly. Overall though I really like the anime and I actually prefer anime Legato over his Manga version.

Kind of wish they'd do a new Trigun series that covers all of the manga stuff that happens after the anime ended.

Really? I don't remember the werewolf episode being in there or a couple others but its been a long time. It just felt like a much longer series on the rewatch.

Same here. i did not like the last part.

It's a decent space western elevated by nostalgia, something I am also guilty of as it was a big part of my childhood.

That being said, I read the manga years later and loved it. Nightow ain't bad at his job. His other work, Blood Blockade Battlefront is also good.

I know that to say this at this point is almost cliché but if you like the anime go read the manga. Trigun Maximum is one of my favourite manga from the last decade and I pray that one day it's properly adapted to TV.
