Ahhhh got an interesting story from tonight.
I was in the computer lab with some friends and working on my research paper. That's when I was the victim of racial abuse....
Black guy (turns to my friend): Hey, is it eight teams that make it to the playoffs in the NBA?
Black friend: Ummm...
Me (white guy): Nah, sixteen. Eight per conference.
Black guy: Yeah, this isn't hockey, pal.
...
Ok, first there was complete silence until we all (almost simultaneously) started laughing very, very hard. Not because he was wrong, but because he equated 'white person = hockey fan, doesn't know basketball' almost instantly. The guy that said it was nervously smiling, realizing what he had just done. I obviously couldn't care less and we (oddly enough) started talking about the NHL lockout. :lol He was asking me all these questions as if to say 'Hey, I'm actually a good guy!'
We agreed later on that he would have shit-kicked me if I had done the same (re: basketball) to him. :lol
-edit-
I should mention that this is definitely unprecedented. I've never had a comment (even one so innocent) directed at me like that before. I mean, they'll call me "cracker" sometimes, but that's somehow less offensive.
