Canada gets the X360 S'haft....

Tenacious-V

Thinks his PR is better than yours.
Xbox Canada

Core $399.99
Premium $499.99

You'd think that with our dollar being better than it has been for a long ass time now, that the pricing would be adjusted finally.... nope.

US 299.99 = CDN 352.98
US 399.99 = CDN 470.56

Getting a slightly better deal with the premium pack, but overall we still pay more... Good thing mine's free!

Actually... Premium $573.85cdn After Ontario Tax vs $470.56cdn After exchange and NY tax. :P If I did not already win one, I'd get mine from NFNY.

It's only $50 or so more than what the PS2 and Xbox launched at here. It's not a bad price at all...

Right forgot about the tax.

So here anyway:

399.99 * 1.14 = 455.99 (14% tax)
499.99 * 1.14 = 569.99 (14%)

Damn that sucks.....

It's to make up for the fact that Canadian vending machines accept our slightly more valuable quarters. It is estimated that Canada has stolen over four trillion dollars in this manner since 1962.

videogame prices aside, from what i can tell, you canadians have much it sweeter than us in the states.

why don't you, or do you guys just import everything?

See but the thing is our dollar was worth 65 cents to 1 american dollar for a good 4 years. During those 4 years we got everything sold in the US exchange rate wise cheaper. The Exchange rate then was basicaly a 50 USD game was 70 CAN and typically we still got 50 USD games at 60 or 65 canadian. For a savings of 2-5 dollars a game :P

Still it is a little stupid the pricing, atleast we aren't the UK though, now those guys are getting rippped off hardcore.

The best part of the discrepency a couple years ago was selling on eBay...man you could make a KILLING. Buying was a bitch, though.

Could the cost difference not be made up for by higher corporate taxes or taxes likewise hidden from the consumer? Surely the 14% sales tax (:wince:) isn't all the tax that's actually being paid on the unit. I'd assume that MS prolly is getting a bit more than a sale in the US, but I have to doubt that it's all that much.

BTW, the PSP is priced the same way...$299, or $349 for the deluxe model. And the dollar has been over 80 cents for over a year now. So yeah, let's bend over Canada.

Videogames cost less here than in the states most of the time. On day 1 of a release, a game will cost the same here as it does in the states, and that's in canadian dollars. Hardware is a mixed story, DS costs more here but PSP costs less. We also rarely get incredible deals like 2for1s.

Whaa? What part of Canada are you in? Cause where I'm at all games cost $10 more, and 2 for 1 deals?!? Where where?!?

Read what I wrote about the 2 for 1 again (rarely as in, US always gets them, we don't).

I'm in montreal, our games (usually at futureshop and some locals) will cost the same thing as what they do in the US on day 1 because they're $10 off. For example, SotC was $40 Cnd.

In an unrelated topic, i was checking out Rzone and saw this which was pretty funny:

Look at the "portable" section for the consoles.

and somehow managed to be $49 US in some places in the States. Which felt good after being gouged up to $80 CDN for some games until about last year.

I'm guessing montreal is cheaper in games. The last time I saw a $80 game here was during the N64 days.

Most games here are $40-50 new. Sometimes, we'll get that odd game that's $59.99.

Unless we're talking about the great deals people with a Fry's near them get. :(
