SANTA ANA, Calif. – Steve Rocco didn't file a candidate statement or mount a campaign for the school board. He's unknown to teachers and the district and only barely to his neighbors

Nonetheless, the candidate being called a mystery man pulled off a political feat by easily beating an opponent who is active, and relatively well known, in the Orange Unified School District.

Now all that's left is to find him.

Rocco provided little information about himself in his candidate filings. He ignored mail from district officials and the teachers' union during the campaign. When the PTA sent him an invitation to a candidate forum, the letter came back unopened.

"Absolutely nobody, but nobody has seen this guy," said Paul Pruss, a middle school teacher and the president of the union. "The whole thing is just bizarre."

Wow.

He won with 54% of the vote... that's incredible. He tried to run for mayor in 2000 as well.

So you see, there would be some basis for the Electoral College system, except for the fact that the electors are as dumb as everyone else.

More than likely the person who everyone knows is hated by everyone too and they would rather have 'anyone' than that person. That type of thing is unsurprisingly common.

The incumbent must suck.

He was backed by the teachers and the schools or something in his campaign (which consisted of either $600 or $6000, I forget which)
