The Capcom Games Competition, which Capcom says is the first of its kind for the company, will be open to students aged 18+ who are enrolled in a university, graduate school or vocational school in Japan.

Students will form teams of up to 20 people, and will create games using development tools like Capcom’s own prioprietary RE Engine, which they’ll gain access to through a cloud environment.

Teams will assign roles based on typical game development job titles, and will have access to support from professional developers working at Capcom. They’ll have to create and submit their game within a six-month period.

According to Capcom, the competition will help students to learn more about the modern game development process.

Those who win awards will be offered “game production support with an opportunity to commercialisation”.

“Capcom aims to strengthen the video game industry overall through this industrial-academic collaboration via contributing to the development of research in educational organisations and the training of outstanding talent by offering the opportunity to learn about game development and its processes in a safe environment,” the publisher said in a statement.

Is this a no strings attached education or will the terms of agreement have 'all work submitted will belong to capcom'?

Based Capcom investing in our gaming future.

Creative leaders in the East, i.e. Japan, Korea and China, seem like our only hope for amazing games in the future.

With how fucking nuts GenZ in the West are and how fucked up the generations after them will be, the future of quality gaming will come from the East.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
It’d be sick if Bethesda did this with the idtech engine.
