Capcom: PS5 the main platform for Monster Hunter Wilds

The takeaway is OP is a fanboy. He's trying to make an innocuous translated comment some kind of victory for his platform.

Some people are saying that Capcom main platform for development was the PS5 and that's why the initial launch runs like ass on PC.

The interview also implies that Capcom sees the high price of the PS5 + MH:Wilds + PS Plus combo a little bit high for younger generations in Japan, they mentioned this to be a "barrier".
Doesn't it run like ass on ps5 also?

And they did them dirty, console version look like absolute crap, pro is a bit better but if you want 60 fps you get dogshit iq with some legit ps3 looking textures.

Is the game any good yet?
It's the easier monster hunter by far, if challenge was never the reason why you played the game, then it's just more monster hunter with new monsters and weapon mechanics.

Wait for the master rank expansion if you are not in a rush.

The real thread title should be "PS5 price is too high according to Capcom, so Monster Hunter Wilds sales underperformed in Japan."

Physical sales data from Famitsu
MH Wilds - 816k
MH World - 2.7m (3.2m with digital)
MH Rise - 2.9m (4m with digital)
MH Generation + Ultimate - 4.9m
MH 4 + Ultimate - 6.2m
MH 3 + Ultimate - 3.3m
MHF3 - 5.3m
MHF2 + Unite - 6m
MH 2 - 700k
MH1 - 520k

Do we know how Wilds performed with digital though? whats the digital split in Japan? If its close to the rest of the world Wilds might be doing ok.

This is why its underperformed!

This game would've killed it everywhere had it properly used next gen systems.

Make gorgeous, mysterious world, add lore/backstory to monsters instead of shit hub characters.

Make it perform great.

These are some minimum things I would like to see before I touch another game in the series.

It's obvious that pushing the price point beyond $60 has started cannibalizing sales. Thanks again to the horrible market analytics that thought they could have the cake and eat it too. And the idea to combine the increased pricing with the target demographic often being women/trans etc was bold a move.

The idea that Assassins Creed Shadows is worth more than any of their previous games is laughable. Customers don't care if you have inflated budgets and staffing when the end product is the same as a 3 year old game that can be bought for $15. The level of incompetence it took to get here is scary.

The more annoying stuff it's capcom doesn't give a fuck about release fixing patch performance. I don't know a single game about them who has improved performance later the release, if not minimally. They practically abandons their games after the releasing.

Eh. I think they were targeting 1080p 30FPS on the PS5.

This game was never meant to be 60fps or run on devices with low VRAM. People just need to accept that they should upgrade their PCs and get used to 30 frames again. Your 1080ti isn't going to max out games in 2025…
Lolz why i m not surprise that you have a Nintendo avatar ? 1080p 30fps? Its 2025 ffs, 1440p@60fps should be the minimun.

Also when we have games like Horizon forbidden west full of active NPC, true open world, flying mounts, dynamic weather running at 1440p@60fps with great textures there in no excuse why a game like Wilds ( that looks worse than HFW) to run poorly as It does.

Game runs like absoluty garbage on everything.

This game somehow manages to look worse than World despite being built for hardware a generation more powerful.
It's still fun, but boy is it ugly.

It ran great on a 5080 and 9800X

... but like shit on my 4070 Super and 14700F

and both kick the shit out of a PS5 - I would say the missed the target

LOL I don't get why you're complaining about recoil but at the same time miss deviation. Both of those are the first things people modded out of bowguns.
Deviation is best on Pierce vs bigger monsters since you can get more hits due to the curve. Not a lot but it was there. Or if a monster moves often deviation can often still hit smaller parts like horns that you want to break.

But if you are fine with gutting half of a weapons gameplay mechanics more power to ya.

Lol, It runs like shit on PCs and PS5 pro too, If you need a better hardware to brute force performance your game runs like shit.
It runs like shit on PC, it MUST runs like shit on PS5 PRO TOO!!!!!

Sorry but the game runs really really well on ps5 pro, dont need to talk down another platform just because a game runs like shit on your PC haha

you are right, it runs well if you want to play at 1080p@60fps in 2025 on a U$700 piece of hardware, thinking about it, even my base PS5 runs well, its 720p but hey, it hit those well optimized 60fps, it just looks like shit.

at the end of the day if we can hit 60fps despite game looking like hot garbage it means that it runs really well.

I'm probably the only one on gaf that played around 40 hours of both versions and ps5 pro version look only decent in quality mode, perf and balance are 2 blurry mess on a 4k television.

On pc you can bruteforce 4k120 so yeah, going from the pc version to the console version was a huge whiplash.

At best i can give you that the console version crash way less but on the other hand, i have a 13600k without updated bios so some games\engines are prone to crash on my pc, other people have no crashes so it is random.

Sure if you have the lowest standards the console version is fine, you can still play the game, but when almost 4 years old, crossgen horizon forbidden west in perf mode look and play better than your fully nextgen game in quality mode, you know capcom royally fucked up, no need to defend them or the console version, and horizon is a faar more gigantic game in every sense of the word.

The game is a technical disaster everywhere, you need luck to be able to bruteforce, i was able to do it for 40 hours and i felt super lucky, then they patched the game recently and the crashes started.

World/Wilds team sucks. We need Rise 2, or at least that portable team to bring the series back to respectability.
You mean the team who wasn't even able to complete rise for launch? That team?

Rise was barely more challenging (if any) than wilds is, let's not indulge in history revisionism, sunbreak fixed that game.

The one that made the last good MH game, yes.
Rise was barely more challenging than wilds (if any since you had literal anime weeb super moves on speed dials) but sure :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

At least world tried to maintain the hunter segment, rise was the one who straight up killed everything and you just had a big target on the monster from the first hunt, if anything wilds copied from rise not world.

And let's not even talk about the battle royale sections, probably the most shit i felt in a monster hunter game, not even zorah magdaros mission were THIS shit, and you only had 2 of them.

It runs at 1080p to hit 60fps and still has drops. If that is your definition of "really really well" then a 9060 XT or 7700 XT does just fine.

Well, just like Onimusha, Pragmata or RE9 will be, if the game hasn't sold as you expected Capcom, it's the game's own fault, which came out with poor performance and isn't as good as MH World.

The takeaway is OP is a fanboy. He's trying to make an innocuous translated comment some kind of victory for his platform.

It sounds like the Capcom guy is complaining that ps5 is too expensive and is citing that as a reason why the game underperformed their projections.

Absolute state of fanboys in the post exclusive era. Trying to extract a W from anywhere they can.

Sure buddy, i literally posted the entire quote of the guy mentioning the issue with ps5 price in the OP. Obviously some of you got bent out of shape about the bit about him saying ps5 is the main platform 🤷‍♂️

You tried to platform war and it backfired.

Rise is the better game. How do you say Wilds is more challenging when you can just use support hunters basically all the way thru story mode?

I didn't said that wilds is harder, i literally said rise is barely more challenging, but they are very similar in challenge.

And only casuals use the cpu hunters for the campaign, i always do my first hunt of a monster solo, imagine judgying the challenge of a mh from the fact that you can bring 3 more hunters with you...with that in mind every monster hunter in existence where you can have 3 humans with you in multyplayer is super easy.

I'm clearly talking about solo hunting, so don't play dumb with me.

Base rise is not better than base wilds in almost nothing, sorry.

It's not just about difficulty, it's about many things, like the aesthetics, the game play, the wire bugs, the pacing, the structure etc. Wilds failed for many reasons, and my biggest gripe is the baby sitting and authorization to hunt things. You can't leave camp without that skank following you around every where you go, and even though now you can change who babysits you, it just sucks. Claw clutch sucks, talking palico sucks, monsters tearing down your camp every five minutes sucks, Wilds version of followers suck.
