Capcom representative : Street Fighter V would never ship on Xbox One

Do we know the license fee is expensive? If MS were to fund such a project, I could see them using MvC4 as bait to get people into the Win10 store. Cross buy/play would also sweeten that deal.

Win10 too?
You really should know that Disney/Marvel is sensitive as fuck about license. Making MvC4 for both console and PC would cost a lot

What if Microsoft threw in the dough to start Marvel vs Capcom 4? How big would that be?

I don't know if that would be worth the effort. Those fees (I'm sure would be expensive because Disney) plus funding the game, I just don't know if it's worth the time or money.

If it went to PC too, that might be big though.

I wonder how much Sony paid Capcom to keep SFV away from the Xbox One. I guess we will never know.

It's not strictly like that because everything we've been told suggests that the game was only able to go ahead with Sony's funding. It's not like they paid to have it kept from a rival platform, like with Rise of the Tomb Raider.

What's the big deal?
The franchise was practically dead until Sony stepped in and funded the game.

Over seven million sales for SFIV last gen was dead?

It wouldn't in the broad scheme of things. MvC is a niche series compared to something like SF.

It was dead in the sense that SFV is only getting made because Sony stepped up and helped pay the costs to make it.

Capcom would not have started development on SF5 without Sony's help. At least not at present time.

MS could throw in with Disney to make Halo movie and see if they could get exclusive Marvel and then codevelop MvC with Capcom.

Lots of stars, lots of alignment for sure!

You know how much the license cost then, or are you just assuming its expensive? Marvel has no presence on consoles/PC, and I think its for reasons other than the cost of the license. Probably has more to do with Marvel/Disney meddling and release schedule instead of the cost.

Edit: Disney is probably looking for the same kind of deal they got with EA and Star Wars, and I don't think MS wants to make Marvel games.

As a lot of other people said already, Ono did not have sufficient funding to make SFV until Sony offered their services, which are not just handing cash to cover development costs. Also, Microsoft does not allow cross-platform play between the XBO & PC whereas Sony does between the PS4 & PC. If anything, Microsoft has no one to blame, but themselves, honestly.

I don't but Capcom know and they said they could't effort Marvel character license fees for MvC4 (this was said before Disney bought Marvel).

Sony backed the entire project or whatever. It is not going to hit Xbone. When I see Killer Instinct on PS4 maybe there's hope.

I'm okay with it not going on Xbone, the console isn't doing that well and a lot of multiplatform titles tip in the PS4 favor. What is the point of getting the Xbone right now though?

Jesus Christ this thread. This thread man.

Most fighting games are on Playstation platftoms anyways. Microsoft dominates the shooter genre on Xbox One however though with the sales on PS4 dominating and the less than stellar first impression of the Xbox One when it first debuted still left a sour taste in peoples mouth which created the foundation for Sony's growth. Even Bungie went full Playstation. I can assume the exclusivity for CoD and Destiny will continue to be on PS4.

Microsoft still nabbed Rise of the Tomb Raider though time sensetive exclusive.

I guess Sony can keep Street Fighter 5, it was never hardcore on Xbox platforms anyways. No real loss.

It should have been obvious since the original announcement, but now this shuts down all the "well wait 'till Super edition hits XBO!" talks.

Only in terms of perception (not really sales), and that will probably be changing soon since Sony has partnerships for Destiny, Battlefront and, now, COD.

Ono repeatedly said he was having issues getting funding from Capcom.

Thanks to Sony the game will be finished in 2016 and probably with a higher budget. Otherwise it would have been around 2018 or beyond.

Also, Ono wanted to secure funding for the tournament scene. Do you seriously think Capcom would have given him half a million dollars for use as prize money for SF4 at Capcom Cup 2015?

I don't quite understand this post and the happiness behind this post...

I thought 3rd party exclusives, especially for AAA titles, are hated by gamers.

Let's break it down. If it is exclusive to your preferred platform it is good. If it isn't it is bad. This applies to all bases. PC games are held back by console specs and filthy peasants. PS4 games are held back by xb1 specs. The xb1 is held back by split focus. Blah, blah.

In this case the game is still coming to PC. I should be able to run it well and cross play with ps4 means I have access to the full player bases where as a xb1 version means I won't. So I'm fine with arrangement.

From a personal perspective as an owner of all 3 consoles, I love any type of exclusive. I like having reasons to add more games to each library. But they suck for single console owners.

I'd argue Xbox was the "hardcore" platform for SF4. In the tournament circuit that platform has been heavily favored since it provided the best user experience. Heck, they're playing SF4 on Xbox 360 at Evo this year.

It's quite something isn't it? We have renowned single platform fans calling other people fanboys, and renowned fanboys claiming they are impartial because they own multiple devices, yet only ever defend a single platform like it's family.

So of the franchises Sega has.
You pick Eternal Champions.
And not Virtua Fighter.
YOU'RE GOIN DOWN

Supposedly a new Virtua Fighter is already in the works, according to Verendus.

If he mentions it then the game will probably be multiplat at the very least.

Windows 10 store bait is going to be Minecraft 2. I don't think MvC has a big enough audience to be considered bait.

As long as an arcade port shows up for Japan (which has been hinted at by the guy that leaked the first info on the game), I'm fine.

Pretty much. Microsofts 'clauses' continue to work against them.

How come? I'm thinking, if Skullgirls characters can cost $250k, then I don't doubt that developing individual characters for Street Fighter V, with all of its new mechanics comes close to $300-400k a piece.
That doesn't sound right, because of how much more expensive it is to animate in 2D as opposed to 3D. There's no way Street Fighter V characters are more expensive to animate than the 2D characters from Skullgirls, where they have to draw each frame of each animation one by one. That's really one of the big reasons even 2D Mario games use 3D polygonal graphics these days, because of how much cheaper it is to animate in 3D. Especially once you have one animation done, then the rest is just coming up with the keyframes and letting the game engine fill in the gaps.

360 was the preferred platform for the two biggest competitive fighters of recent years. One lf those was SF4 but ok.

I like how it's 2015 and the big console exclusives are Street Fighter and Tomb Raider.

90s part 2.

Would you if you were Capcom? That kind of puts them back seat with their own IP.

If it took a platform holder to pony up the money to make a new game in a well known IP like Street Fighter, they already are in the back seat with their own IP. No one will be thanking Capcom for this game. It's Sony they will thank.

Also, this thread is hilarious as the fanboys and girls have a spotlight to shine in. lol

which is really great if you don't want to buy new sticks and have a greater range of controller options for the game.

Since I doubt i could use my Saturn pad on the PS4, I look forward to playing with my PS brethren on the PC at launch!

Do you use on of the rare original Sega USB Saturn pads or do you use an adapter?

Wasn't Street Fighter 2 exclusive to SNES?

Well, not really. But it depends on what you count as SF2. Generally the game was ported to many, many consoles/systems but there were also a hell of a lot of differnet versions of it and these versions are spread among various systems.
