Capcom sales forecast for FY2005

Not that I care if it sells more or less than the Cube version
I'm fairly certain you do.

Someone said it in another thread, no one can compete with the Nintendo fanboys.
Sure you can. It's pretty obvious just from this thread. Your post history just makes it glaring.

2 million for PS2 RE4? No. Capcom missed that boat by releasing the GC version first. Taking out most of the steam of RE4 being a hot new release. It may hit a million worldwide.

I DOUBT that means it hit 900,000 US. Given, it's probably slightly more now due to the 10 dollar budget price, but those are used units anyway from 2nd hand sales to people who probably aren't even that much into RE, only bought it as an impulse buy most likely (note, that's a generalization)

Doubt no longer, as of March:

PS2 RESIDENT EVIL CODE: X CAPCOM USA Aug-01 884,128

Edit: Also... as of Feb 2005

Resident Evil Code:Veronica X PS2

US: 873,627

It tickles me how developers think that their game sells best on the PS2, especially when their game is overshadowed by something bigger.

Especially when Capcom put Viewtiful Joe on the PS2, and did tremendously horrible.

Now when Capcom puts that classics collection on the PS2 and XBox, why is that? What are the sales figures for Mega Man Anniversary Collection on the Box?

ARGH! IT DOESNT MAKE ANY F*CKING SENSE. Okay, sure, I have an XBox, but for some reason, I prefer all my collections on the GCN. Perhaps its the Nintendoid in me, but thats just how the ball rolls. Not to mention the shear portability.

I really don't understand what they were thinking. They definitely hurt GC sales announcing the PS2 version so early, but they're also going to hurt PS2 sales releasing it so late I think.

It's like they couldn't decide which release to screw up, so they went for both.

That's our Capcom.

WHICH VERSION CAN WE SCREW OVER?

OH, I KNOW! HOW ABOUT *BOTH*!

"Brilliant!"

The funny thing is, if they didn't announce the PS2 port until 3 months after the GC version there would be just as many people on GAF going "Oh Capcom sucks ass, they could have just announced it before I wasted my money on a GC just for one game but nooooooo" and so on. Let's not kid ourselves here, on forums it's always lose-lose no matter what a company chooses to do. :lol

The insistence that announcing the PS2 version before the GC version shipped drastically hurt the latter's sales seems dubious to me -- I think people are really overestimating how well-informed consumers actually are.

I think you are underestimating how well-informed they are. This was not some top secret info. IGN and the like are not just for the hardcore gamers anymore.

Resident Evil 2 (PS) - 4.9 M (US+JP+EU)

I don't want to talk about the past , but RE 's popurity is very much more than you can imagine yourself.

For RE CV PS2 version it manage to 800k+ according to the latest NPD data , please do some homework before posting.

According to Capcom's IR pages it says:

RE CV = 1.3 million.

That's worldwide.

Sorry, if I base my numbers off you know, off of Capcom official IR relation documents.

Oh and uh, calm down. I'm sure you and your massive E-penis for knowing a company's sell through rate for a particular game must make you feel all special inside but you know, chillax dude.

RE4 PS2 WON'T do well? Are you all mad? RE Outbreak sold 330k in the US. OUTBREAK! Imagine what a real RE game will do.

I don't know about drastically, but it definetly had an effect. RE4 didn't outsell either REmake or RE0 in Japan despite being considered the best in the series by alot of fans and most reviewers. It missed RE0 by close to 200k there.

Code Veronica more than 900,000 in the US alone, WTF!?! You sure?
PS2 RESIDENT EVIL CODE: X

Total: 895,046

Okay, it was 5k short, guess it will pass 900k with the next NPD.

Code: Veronica X

USA: 900k
Japan: 340k
Europe: at least 400k
European Platinum version: at least 230k (as of late 2002)

= 1,870,000 units sold. At least. The European numbery could be much higher.

By the way: Resident Evil: Outbreak PAL (which has no online play) has also sold 400k+ units...

re4 won't sell that well on ps2
It will. If Code Veronica is able to sell around the 2 million mark I have no doubt RE4 will do that too. CVX was released for the PS2 17 months after the DC-version (US). RE4 for PS2 will come out 11 months after the GC-version, so the wait is not as long as last time. This together with no new GTA / Metal Gear this fall and the fact that the userbase is much, much bigger now should make this version sell really well.

AniHawk said:
Did you just put Metal Gear on the same field as GTA?
Haha, nah, I was just saying that this fall does not have as many killer apps as last year. I know GTA sells like 4 times more than MGS.

Why are people arguing that RE won't do well on PS2? Keep in mind that the majority of RE's fanbase still resides on the PS2. Bringing RE to the DC didn't bring them over, and neither did bringing RE to the GC. If anything, it only slightly increased the number of RE fans. Also, I doubt a port of a game would take many units to recoup the cost. I'm thinking that past 200K copies it'll be pure profit for Capcom.

Nintendo droids are creepy. :|

Well RE4 should get its share of the spotlight, that's true. Kinda depends if Mikami's favorite game's sequel is out in America by the end of the year.

I think the most shocking revelations in this thread is that certain people honestly feel the announcement of RE4 PS2 had any sort of dramatic affect on the sale of the Gamecube game. I had heard random people saying it before, but I never thought such ridiculous assertions were prevalent.

I have to lower my internet faith once more. It's almost in negative territory. This is after people complained about a fuckin' visualizer on Xbox360. Christ.

I still have trouble believing those visuals are on PS2 at times. So amazing. Kingdom Hearts II is gonna rock my world.

If Chain of Memories first month was any sign (500k+) this is going to put up some huge numbers whenever Square does release it. Especially if its this holiday.

Kingdom Hearts II is by far the cleanest looking PS2 title I have ever seen. It must be using 1X AA or something. Amazing job by Square Enix.

Capcom's IR figures are for 1st run full priced releases only (meaning, budget rereleases are seperate SKUs). Here's what the RE series has sold this generation at full price (which is seemingly, where it counts according to Capcom)...

I like how people can enjoy an admittedly great game, but then wish the developer that delivered it ill because they're allowing a different (and much, much larger) audience to experience that same game they loved.
Ditto.

It's like breaking up with a girl but still not wanting anyone else to have her. Incredibly selfish and immature.

Resident Evil 4 will be a huge hit on the PS2. Surpassing Gamecube sales. That's just the reality of the situation. Gamecube can't compete with the Playstation 2. Especially not when it comes to mature games...

I don't think most are contesting RE4 PS2 outselling the GC release eventually... the problem is Capcom's 2 million forecast for this year. It's just not going to happen. This generation only 2 Capcom games have done that and that was back when the PS2 market was far less crowded.

I'd be shocked to find any real RE fans that haven't picked up a Gamecube to play REmake, REZero and RE4 by now.

IMO - the only way they can sell 2 million copies of RE4PS2 is to sell it at $19.99.

I wouldn't say that is the only thing that counts. Take for instance DMC3. That's less than a month average worldwide sales. The game is still at 49.99. I think it just more has to do with what a game does before the end of the fiscal year (march 31st) if that's 2 days worth of sales then so be it. I wouldn't say that's what only matters. But you're right in saying that re-releases don't mean too much and ARE on separate SKU's. Also, lets say a game sells 10,000 units at full price. But for some reason or another continues to sell 900,000 more at 10 bucks. Profit wise that's not too much, but it tells a company the potential bracket that would be interested in a sequal. Which is why I have hope for BGE 2 :)

The problem is, Capcom only makes note of a popular game sales for only one fiscal report, and afterwards they don't say anything. They might make a note on the interim reports for updated results on RE4 and some other games, but not likely it seems.

I find it funny the same people who hated on the RE series/didn't care about RE4/called RE a dead series did an about face when the RE4 port was announced for PS2. RE4 PS2 could pull a VJ and sell horribly. I mean who could have guessed VJ2 would bomb like it did? Its impossible to predict. RE4 PS2 could never sell past 5,000 copys for all we know! As for my predictions I see the GC original reaching 2 million+ and the PS2 port at 1.5 million+ total.

Well both REmake and RE0 was the same crap all over again. Nothing had changed since the first RE game. I think that's why most people called the series dead. RE4 as you know is a completely new game, some would say it's not even a RE game anymore. I think that's why so many people want this port so badly. If this was RE0 however, I'm pretty sure the interest would be alot cooler.

Just FYI, I loved REmake (not RE0 though). I also loved Resident Evil 4 and own it already. There's no about face from me. I just have no problem with another audience enjoying the game, is all.

Kingdom Hearts II will be the biggest game of the year if it makes it out in 2005. I haven't seen a video of the game until the gif in this thread. That looks amazing. Looks like an animated movie.

I've seen it before, but yeah... it looks unbelievable. No doubt about that.

Also, it'll be interesting to see which sells more... Kingdom Hearts II or Zelda: Twilight Princess. Battle of the videogame goliaths.
