Car that I'm saving for. Am I alone?

Am I the only crazy young person saving to buy one of these?

They're slow, require a lot of maintainence, openly mocked by children and elderly, but I am irrisistably drawn to it. The stainless steel, incredible design (Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design studios - lotus esprit, Maserati Bora, Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT) and gullwing doors have me hopelessly devoted.

Been interested in these for 15 years. I once tailed a guy for 40km to talk to him about his D. Lol... :lol I've got the Delorean Magazine subscription, 1/18 model car (x2!) and the Delorean owers manual.

Any other Delorean fans or (dear god!) owners?

There's a magazine devoted to the delorean? Is it 1 page per issue? How much are you going to need to save to buy one?

It's nice to dream about, but you're going to be paying a lot for replacement parts should you ever need them.

It's a beautiful car. This one dude in my old neighborhood had one. First time we saw him drive around in it me and my friend had to stop and do a double take.

Worst part was he totally didn't give a shit about it. :(
Left it outside all winter and etc.

I remember reading something about DeLoreans are wrongly engineered...and the chassis should sit much lower...which is why they look kinda odd. Might have been a link on GA on something..but apparantly there's a place in the US that can alter them so they sit much lower as they were originally designed to be.

those things are supposed to be a piece of shit.

Seriously though, if you love it, you should most likely keep away. It'll never live up to your overblown expectations of it.

I've driven in one before.

My neighbor had one back when I lived in NY.

It was a magical experience driving in the Back to the Future car.

Worst car ever made. Just buy a Pinto and put gullwing doors on it. It'll be a better car and easier to repair than that POS. Seriously, some kid had one near us at RPI, and it was the biggest POS. Looks nice, but you better be able to fix everything yourself and it's hardly a performer, even in its day it was crap. Delorean got busted for coke, right? It shows. That car was designed by crackheads. :lol PEACE.

It's a coolass ride. Congrats and respect to you for saving up for it.

Realize that parts are going to be a motherfucker to find and purchase, let alone finding a qualified mechanic who won't fuck up the car any worse than the condition that it’s in right now. That aside, it's definitely a head turner. I see one in DC that's parked in Georgetown sometimes.

While they are unique they are not fast at all... if they get dented they cannot be fixed easily, and they are hard to park because of the gull wing doors. Not to mention with the small windows it is very difficult to get food at a drive up window.

Check out www.delorean.com... That’s the best place to get them, basically they referb. the cars with OEM parts. They're based in Ireland, IIRC, and they will also modify the suspension, stereo, and parts that were known to fail on the car. Check out their used section too if you don't want to pay full price for a referb, they have a few there for about 25 grand.
