Castlevania AoS game progress question[spoilers]

isamu

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
In the floating garden, there is a room that contains a door that is made of some sort of nasty looking black mist. I have tried everything to get through this door and for the life of me I just cannot pass it. How do you get past this door? Trying to go through it as a Giant Bat doesnt even help....

You don't. Not unless you beat the game with certain souls attached.

Not beat the game with certain souls equipped, beat the supposed last boss with said souls equipped.

ding ding ding

This door is actually the path to the real ending I believe!

When fighting Graham, you need to have 3 certain souls equipped.

Here are the three souls you need:

Flame Demon (red)
Succubus (yellow)
Giant Bat (blue)

Are you serious???????

No fucking wonder! I had just beatup on Graham but I do not recall which souls I had equipped. Are you saying that I will get a different ending, depending on which souls I have equipped?

And what effect will this have on that black mist door? Is there some super powerful sword or soul ability behind that door something?

No wonder the ending I got was so shitty....

If you do not beat Graham with the souls listed above, you will not gain access to the final areas of the map, nor will you fight the real last boss, be able to get all of the souls or enemy entries, nor get the real ending.

Meh, no real spoilers there! I just wanted to make sure that he understood that it's quite important to defeat Graham correctly!

Alright, your choice. I was shocked when I discovered that
there was like 20-30 minutes worth of game still to go
when I approached the door. And the big twist. AoS is such an awsome game.

Well now that I've (and maybe you) answered isamu's question, I will reply with an AoS related tidbit.

That giant sword fucking rules.

It can't hurt to spoil-tag it, I concede.

That said, I agree, the twist was awesome (for a CV game) and
the "bonus" content
was freakin' awesome and totally welcome.

Oh, Lake, have you tried
losing to the true last boss?
That'll give you
yet ANOTHER new ending.
Hahahaah. Awesome stuff.

If you're talking about the Claimh Solais(definate sp?), then yeah, its awesome.

Well, like, yeah, I like, totally, like, did not see any other giant swords? Or is there another one I'm, like, missing?

The Balmung or whatever? Yeah I always used that sword until I found the more powerful gun. Then I just kicked ass with that.

"Claimh Solais", oh yeah. That one's awsome too.

Indeed it did. I've not doubt CVDS will, but I hope CoD also has a varied selection of weapons.

Spoiler, Spoiler, don't spoil it for him. Just tell him there's something cool behind the door.

too late :(

It's all good though....I honestly don't think I would have been able to sleep tonight without taking a sneak peak at Mejilan's post at what is really behind the door :)

It would have been nice if I had encountered this on my own, but knowing me, I would have NEVER guessed or figured out which souls are required for the great ending.

Well they sorta tell you what souls to equip, but I'm just giving you a nice shove in the right direction (and saving you a trip to gamefaqs)!

Indeed. That sword is by far the best sword in any Castlevania game. It's too bad I found it quite early on, and that I was dissapointed each time I found a new sword somewhere only to see that it doesn't come close to the Claimh Solais. That sword is too powerful for it's own damn good. I almost feel guilty using it. I've switched to the Gungner(which is also badass) for the time being :p

Yeah, if you
lose
the final fight, you get the coolest fucking ending in Castlevania history.

Damn straight, particularly in how it echoes the opening of another famous CV game. Woohoo!

About the clues regarding which souls to equip, the books you've been collecting are those clues, in case you weren't sure. And if you REALLY think about the powers those three souls give you, well, it's something to think about...

Without having been through the extended ending of the game, this game is still way too short! When I got to Graham I was dumbfounded that I was well, at him already!

It's no where near a long as SOTN, which felt like an eternity(a blissful, orgasmic eternity mind you :) )

There's a difference between a PSX disc and a GBA cart I believe (space-wise)?

Or am I totally thinking wrong.

Try to get all the souls. If you're like me, you'll find large areas I didn't even know were there (and weren't essential to beat the game), and figuring out how to kill a 'flying fish' is one of the more awsome discoveries of mine playing the game.

Is that the bastard that FLIES across the screen about as fast as you can blink? He was awesome.

Hell, my first playthrough I found 100% of the souls without even wearing the Soul Ring, or whatever it's called (that ups your chances of getting a Soul Drop.)

I play exclusively on hard mode now, of course.

Edit - And what about the Iron Golem (I think he was called?)

Yeah the flying thing. I just thought he was a visual thing. I wanted to see what it was so I slowed down time and saw him... thought, I wonder if you can kill him. Bam. HEY!!!! (killed it again, get the soul) Holy crap!

Iron Golem... can only kill him with the killer mantle. He was sweet.

All souls without the soul eater ring? How is that possible? By the time you get to 80%, you should have enough money/soul that lowers the price on stuff/tons of useless clothes and weapons to sell.

Getting the Mandragora's soul was the hardest, just cause I kept killing the skeleton that pulls him out without thinking that you had to wait for him to pull the thing out to get the soul.

Yeah, the Sky Fish. It is extremely hard to stop time just in time to get it to fly right over you and kill it, not to mention get its soul, Took me like an hour of critical timing using the stop time soul and numerous frustrating hack and slashes to finally collect the Sky Fish's soul. I honestly don't think the time and effort was worth it.

Questions.....

1)I'm missing an ability....I glanced over the faq and it seems there is some sort of ability that leaps you sky high into the air without taking up any mp. Can anyone tell me where to get this ability?

2)Is there a "mist" soul in this game, simlar to the one in SotN that allows you to pass through thin walls?

3)What is the befenit of that item in Hammer's store that costs something like $300,000? Did any of you manage to collect that much cash and buy that item? Was it worth it?

1. Yeah it's somewhere in the last area. I forget where exactly. It shoots you up kinda like in CotM.

Here it is from Gamefaqs.
"Hippogryph
Type: Ability Soul
Info: Perform a high jump by pressing R in mid-jump.
Find: Top Floor - destroy wall to right of Iron Golem (soul holder)"

2. None that I can remember. If you're thinking about how to pass the waterfall, you have to transform into a charging monster to get across.

3. It increases the chance of you getting a soul from an enemy. Worth it's money, BUT there is a soul out there that makes things cheaper. It'll make the price go down to $240 000. He's an enemy that appears in a boss room after you kill the boss, but 90% of the time it digs itself into a hole before you can get to it.

Ah, reading this topic made me want to play again. :D I never got round to beating "hard" mode, so I'm going about it now, a lot of fun going back through it again, it's rather amazing how much I missed my first go through. Good times though, man the anticipation for CVDS is building pretty damn quickly.

Can't wait for the AoS sequel on DS. I loved AoS (almost beat out SOTN, and SOTN is one of my favorite games of all time)
; collected all the souls and got all endings in both normal and hard modes, beat boss rush, etc, all within about two days of purchasing the game. I cannot get enough of 2D Castlevania games! :D

Also, I'd like to take this moment to reiterate that AoS > SotN.

It comes close, but no, I still have to give it to SOTN for the overall package, ESPECIALLY the music. :)

If the GBA actually, you know, had decent sound output...Well, AOS would beat it hands-down.

The music in AOS was so much better orchestrated, but a lot was lost in the translation.

I can't believe I never played this game when it was released. After showing a friend of mine the EGM Castlevania DS preview and seeing how excited he was, I asked him to let me borrow the game. Simply awesome. :) Castlevania DS looks fantastic..

LakeEarth, Mejilan and Demi.... I wanna thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and guide me with some great advice.

I spent most of the say at work collecting souls after selling off a shitload of weapons and armor and buying the Soul Eating Ring. Had about $200 left after I bought it :lol Anyway it appears that despite having that ring equipped, certain monsters were extremely stubborn in giving me their souls! The poison worm and the Alura Une for example, took like a half hour each of repeated hack and slash to get their souls. Alura was worth it though, as well as that one monster who's soul repels all attacks(physical and magical) for a period of about 20 seconds.

I am up to about 87% of the total souls collected. That's a huge increase from the meager 65% I was at yesterday. I do not think I want to bother and collect the rest though, because some of them are bosses that did not give me their souls after I beat them :( And others, well, I just know where to look for them.

Oh by the way I found the Hyppograph and also got the soul of that one monster you told me about that gives discounts at Hammer's item shop :)

I'll finish the game tomorrow.

Well I'm happy to say I beat the game with 99.9% of the souls. The only soul I could not go back and get was the legion boss soul. Is there a way to go back and get the soul from the legion boss?

Also beat boss ruch mode in under like 13 minutes. Killer ending too! Mina turning into Alucard from SotN cought me waay off guard!

New Game +

Make sure you break off ALL of the shell before killing. That's the only way to guarantee getting the soul.

Thanks. BTW any new perks for going through the game again with Julius? Worth it?

Julius is a cross between Richter (can't take hits well, but has special properties when using subweapons) and Maxim from HoD (high speed and strength, mystical bullshit moves and attacks that replace key items in the main game.) His game is pretty fun for the challenge and novelty of using a whip-bearer again, but it's more limited (he can't fill out the garden stage, fight the ultimate final battles, and so on)

Congratulations on beating the game, and as far as my part in helping? You're quite welcome.

Man, easily one of the top action/adventure games on the GBA.

so if i could only play one castlevania gba game AoS would be the one?

yeah it's a tough fight with Circle of the Moon though. AoS just get the egde because of better graphics. CotM is a top notch game and harder than AoS. Get both.

AoS is a great game--the only GBA CV that I bought.

Kind of sucks the second time around with either of the characters, though, due to the fully open map (I always depended on the blank spots to show me where I can't go). :P

Wait a minute, huh? I don't remember that (and my best time is sub 4 minutes)

EDIT - oh wait, maybe I read that wrong. Still not sure what you're talking about.
