Castlevania DS - 2D or 3D?

Do you want it to be 2D or 3D?

I am all for another 2D castlevania game. The 3 castlevanias for GBA are still among the best on the handheld.

I would like to see a 2D CV game drawn in the style of Symphony of the Night (only in higher resolutions with much more animation and background detail) as well as a classic Rondo of Blood style CV game done with 3D visuals (on a 2D plain).

Will either happen? Probably not...

3D, with exploration. I want them to actually TRY this time, instead of changing the color of the main character and selling it as a new game like the GBA ones

2D no doubt.
I really tried to like CV:LoI, but just couldn't get into it. It just didn't feel like CV game at all. Matter of the fact, Onimusha 3 (especially Jean Reno part) felt more like proper 3D CV game than LoI.

I suppose that could be good. IF they put in the time and effort, I'm sure we could have a really good 3D exploration based CV title...

Loi felt really cheap. The rooms looked the same 9/10, and they were really small.

You know it's bad when that short forrest path was the moodiest looking in the game.

Neither unless they're going to get it right. The GBA ones aren't very fun.

I think I want a 2D one in a way, but the resolution of the DS screens are just so low. I don't know.

:lol I think you are in the miniority of that opinion.

AoS and CotM are fantastic. HoD is good.

I really enjoyed the GBA ones, except HoD which I feel just seemed to lack a nice skillset. So if they keep the style within that vein, I'm happy. Though, I worry they may try to cram it with gimmicks that just won't work, but it's really too early to speculate.

I just didn't like the GBA ones.

The sprites seemed "squeezed" or something, so it was difficult to see much detail.

And the levels were too "complex" or something. I don't mean that they were difficult to figure out, but I liked the more linear games.

I dunno what you mean by "squeezed", but the visibility is much improved on the SP / GB Player / DS.

Also, it's really only COTM that is almost unplayable on the original GBA. The other ones lightened up the palatte a bit.

I think it's a given that they'll continue using the 2D GBA engine. Bottom screen will probably get used as a map...

That would really be disappointing... :\

2 fucking D please !

No, really the N64 games WHERE cool, but no nearly as awesome as 2d versions

A new 2d castlevania Aria of sorrow style with a map on the bottom would make my day also. Thats how much i want it.

I don't want a 3D game for either the PSP for the DS unless they REALLY take it seriously. LoI had it's charm but it also happened to be extremely fucking boring.

What I would want would be classic 2D gameplay with enemies and the main characters to be well animated sprites. I'd love for the backgrounds to be complete 3D with great lighting and particle effects. I don't need anything impressive, just a solid 3D enviroment as a background with some nice ambiance. This could befor either PSP or DS I don't care, I just want them to do 2D game.

I'd love for them to attempt a 3D one but only if they really take their time with it. I wouldn't want them to go with the Metroidvania route, I'd prefer the style of the original games and I'd think it would fit the extra dimension more.

If it's like the really good n64 game (people were so wrong about it) then I'll go with 3d. If it's like the lame PS2 DMC rip off then forget it.

Those two N64 titles weren't that bad...they just didn't feel like CV at all. The atmosphere, music, and everything else felt cheap as hell (even though it played pretty decently).

What's the point? How would TEH TOUCH! improve a Castlevania game?

They could have a map plus weapon selection on the 2nd screen. Not a great use of it, but not every game on the DS should have to make extensive use of the touchscreen.

Atleast N64 felt more CV than Loi ever did. Both of them sucked anyway so the 3D track record isn't good.

2D ( i wish a pure action game like CV4, but it'll probably be Metroid-vania again) with item changing/equiping on the fly using the touchscreen.

people complain using a map as a 2nd screen, but it would help alot in a game like Castlevania. It's annoying to have to "stop" the game in order to see what to go and do next.

It would feel more fluid to not have to access a map screen.

You have to access the map in a game like Metroid Prime far more often than in the recent 2D Castlevanias. The only time you have to look at the map is to make sure you've jumped in all the right spots to get that extra percentage towards completion.

Then again it would rule if the bottom screen was used a'la Goemon Ds and you could affect the scenery and the top screen was the map instead.

I'd like to see a great looking 2D game with a painterly (and amazing) art style similar to the new Goemon DS game Konami is crafting.

Definitely 2D. Symphony of the Night and Circle of the Moon/Aria of Sorrow both have a warm place in my heart. Those 3D Castlevania games... well... they don't. :P
