Castlevania DS pics

holy shit!!!! I've never really played the new castlevania games like AoS, SotN, and HoD more than a few minutes when over a friends place, but this game is seriously looking phenomenal. That video makes me want to play all the GBA games. Any suggestions on where to start? I mean an order of which games to play?

I'd just hunt down SOTN if you could. The GBA games to me always felt lacking in graphics, sound and level design.

character art is HIDEOS. but the game looks great, and would look better still if the screens weren't blown up. i don't know why that's done with shots of portable games. i fear i'll have to buy a ds for this. maybe i should just resign myself to buying everything. that's how it always turns out. :/

Just watched the video. Very very impressive. The animation of the large (boss?) enemies is superb, and lots of great use transparencies and so on. Someone of the SOTN imports actually look a little cheap animation wise in comparison to the DS originals.

Music sounds good, though its hard to judge the actual quality from a streaming video.

Side note, why the fuck to game websites always enlarge screenshots from GBA and DS games? Do they think we're a blind? EARTH to IGN AND GAMESPOT: IF WE CAN SEE IT ON THE FUCKING DS SCREEN, WE CAN SEE IT ON OUT MONITORS. QUIT MAKING THEM LOOK UGLY.

Some people will tell you that SOTN is the best of the newer Castlevanias, but I disagree. Aria of Sorrow features tighter gameplay, more powers, and is much more challenging. Of course, you don't have SOTN's beautiful graphics and music. So I guess you just have to know which of those factor higher on your list.

SNES graphics? Are you fucking kidding me? I thought the GBA claims were bad.

Anyway, that video is awesome. Anyone up for resizing (and hosting I guess) the stupidly blown up screens?

I agree, the video is awesome. Music is A class and the game looks even better than AoS (that even a Igavania hater such as I conceed was pretty decent) and the graphics are amazingly detailed. The use of the stylus for a soul that clears the ice is a great idea and I hope there are more interactive souls like that instead of the stylus mostly being used for the stupid boss sealing gimmick.

Since I've been OWNED this time by the awesomeness, I'll do this little favor for all of Nintendo fandom, enjoy:

ok, so now that's Wario Ware, Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, and Castlevania makes 4

i wonder if i can hold out until WW launch to buy a DS

WTF on art style change, but definitely getting it for sure. The question is whether to "get DS now and wait for CV" or "wait and get DS when CV comes out"....

I'd wait to see if they offer a black DS by then. I think black would make all the empty space on the DS face a lot less noticeable, so I'm holding out for that.

:)

Graphics
Looks similar to SOTN and then some
Outdoors areas
Nice music

:(
Lameshit new character designs. I thought Konami hired Kojima so they could do away with anime generica in the series?
Touchscreen stuff is still gimmicky and pointless

Castlevania looks swweet, but really just wets my frothing demand for a 2D, dual screen, touch enabled Metroid Fusion sequel :o

Here's a nice comparison on how the two dualscreen pics. :D

I wonder if you'll be able to pause the game and access your menu. Because the game doesn't look paused in that shot. If you can't... that can be both good and bad I guess. It would've been cool to go through your menu with the stylus though.

Ah, so I guess the game does have to be paused, since you can't use your stylus and the dpad controls your character. D'oh.

Definately disappointed with the artwork. I suppose Ayami Kojima is too busy doing artwork for the second PS2 Castlevania. This is a real shame though. Even Soma's in-game portrait sucks. :\

Looks FAptastic!!! Was going to buy a DS sooner or later but again.. sold.

FOR newbies to the CV-handhelds - Konami doesn't do a very wide print so if/when you see it and you're interested; buy it asap or lose the chance to ever play their games.

Looks sweet. I'll hold out for a while but Castlevania is definitely my biggest temptation to get a DS. Outside of that it's mostly puzzle games that I'm interested in.

Also, I'm not sure how much I like the idea of having to take your hand off the controls, grab the pen, and use that on the screen. That could be annoying and/or frustrating depending on the implementation.

use your fingers :P

Well as Odentnin said, Konami usually doesn't make enough copies of 2D castlevania games. I will pre-order this.

The game looks awesome. Looks like there will be some new environments (judging by the pictures with the snowy forest background) rather then the same-ole front enterance, library, outer wall, clock tower, underground water canal, etc. that we've seen in all the previous Castlevania games.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about the outdoors. If you notice on the map screen while outdoors, hardly any of the map is covered. There's another map screen where Soma is already inside the castle and not too much more of the map is covered. Sad, but I think this game is still gonna rock!

Ayami must be spending all her resources on CoD, which is fine by me. use her on that, making sure the characters in the game emulate her art..

but yeah, I hope they at least improve Soma's in-game pic..

this game looked soooooooooooo fucking good today on the DS unit. sex sex sex.

the animation is sweet. the fucking parallax (man, i miss using that word) on the forest area in the beginning was awesome, and the video they showed looked tops. even the boss sealing seemed to work better than i expected.

YES PLEASE

rad, how was the music?
so why is the game looking this good, so early, with months to go?! did you get the impression they are going to polish it even MORE?

I am hoping that Castlevania: CoD is still very early in development. The game looks horrible. They should just ask Capcom for the Devil May Cry (or even Resident Evil 4) engine if they insist on having the game in a 3D world because their 3D programmers are seriously slacking off on this title. Shit, since MGS 3 is a Konami title, they should just borrow the code from that... This just makes me wish more that they'd just design a 2D Castlevania for a home console with hi-res sprites, lots of animations, and huge stages ala Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

the tune in the video sounded OK, but the DS units at the event didn't have headphones on them (the PSPs did) so i didn't get to hear in-game stuff.

the demo was way too short. like, 5 rooms and a boss. bleah. i played it twice.

True, I noticed that as well. I still have some hope that there will be a lot more 'new' areas though. But even if thats not the case, I have no doubt that this game is going to rock. :)

Thanks. And I think IGN is officially NUTS! Check their impressions

Though it was initially just a bit disappointing to see the DS version stick with the Game Boy Advance's style of graphic presentation instead of a somewhat 3D approach to the adventure platformer, this game really needs to be seen in motion to truly appreciate the sequel. It's certainly true that the game looks very similar to the GBA versions of Castlevania, but there's much more going on that the single-screen handheld just couldn't handle. Enemies are much larger and utilize way more sprite effects when they move or when they're destroyed. Backgrounds are far more detailed and vibrant on the Nintendo DS. And the audio, even in the very, very early preview build, shows a lot of promise of the Nintendo DS' music capabilities during the action.

They wanted 3D?

Thanks for this comment. Made my day... good to read that someone who's h-oed it thought it was cool bananas. How much longer before the DS version goes on shelf? Post E3? :(

The art is shit, but the game looks awesome still. I'm getting a DS definitely. Nintendo handhelds for all my Castlevania needs!!!

'Anime generica' only existed in one game: Rondo of Blood, which is the best CV so far. This stuff isn't nearly as good as even that game's designs.

Also: I want this, and I want it on my TV (or RGB montior, more like) and nice speakers. DS bottom-screen RGB-out hack please.

I sometimes hate the gaming media for crap like that :|

It's IGN, I am not suprised. They rather play a game with half-assed 3D then a top notch 2D action-rpg just because 3D is technicly more advanced. What difference does gameplay make?

Crap I can't see anything on the gamespot stream - it's like 1 frame every 5 seconds for me :( I don't suppose anyone can record it and make it downloadable for me? m(. .)m

I can't get the gamestop stream to work either. Headed to IGN I guess :/
