Cauliflower Rice?

i love cauliflower, but what's with all this turning this stuff into "rice" and "spaghetti" was my thing

dont be surprised when u see some white dude open up a sushi joint that uses cauliflower "rice"

What's all this "white dude" nonsense.

People just chopping up cauliflower finely and preparing it like rice, so they shorthand call it "rice". Get over it.

I see this in the store and everytime it pisses me off. I'm a vegetarian so I'm often looking at the veggie section. Right next to that section they used to sell frozen rice brown and white and wild. Now they only have this....

Blenders are way more powerful, for example you need a blender to make something like a carrot purée, a food processor isn't going to do that. A food processor is better for creating small bits of something, and would be the ideal tool for creating this at home if you want to use a machine. Otherwise mincing it by hand would be totallly fine.

I find it much easier to just use a box grater on a head of cauliflower. No need for cleanup, chopping the head into smaller pieces ahead of time, or batching.

Takes like 1 min to go through 1 head.

Cauliflower is good when baked, grilled and in soup but the "rice" version was very meh.

If a dish calls for rice, I'll have rice with it.

Its great. Had some prepared fried rice style from this recipe the other day.

Steam your cauliflower. Mash your cauliflower. Simmer it in heavy cream and touches of permesan. When thick, season with salt and pepper. Die happy.

When you see store-bought variants, shake your head in pity

Also cauliflower is loaded with carbs, if you mix actual rice in, it's a carb explosion

Didn't really like it as a total rice substitute but generally I do find subbing like half a bowl of rice with cauliflower instead of the whole thing to work pretty well. That way you still get enough of the taste and texture of real rice.

Subbing whole cauliflower for macaroni works better imo. Caulifloweroni and cheese is great.

Incorrect. Completely.

5 grams for a serving is "loaded with carbs?" With about half of that being dietary fiber?

Don't see why this bothers people. Just like Soy Milk and Almond Milk are better/healthier alternatives but are still considered Milk, or how Just Mayo is still considered Mayo.

If it tastes as good (or better) and is healthier than the real thing, it can be called the same thing. If you're butt hurt you must just hate eating healthy food.

Like everything else, it seems that lobbies, like the dairy farmers lobby, basically want a ban on products being called "milk" if it doesn't come from cows. Again, the whole "confusion" angle seems pretty far fetched..they're mainly upset that folks are buying a healthier alternative, and it's fucking with their profits..

People will get mad over anything

The day the start making all sushi with cauliflower instead of with rice is the day I will start protesting

I had some of this, it was fucking rank.

But then I'm not a fan of regular cauliflower, so wasn't surprised by this.

Had this last night for the first time. My wife bought it. Never heard of it. I like cauliflower, but this is just a weird and definitely misleading. Like soy milk

Let's not start talking crazy. I LOVE cauliflower rice, but normal inarguably (IMO) rice tastes better

As for why riced cauliflower? 1 cup of cauliflower is 27 calories with 5g carbs/2g fiber. 1 cup of white rice is 206 calories with 46g carbs/0g fiber.

I once made an entire, decent sized pizza (a little smaller than a medium) using cauliflower rice to make the crust. After putting everything into myfitnesspal I realized the combined calories were only like ~550. It was glorious

It still has cauliflower in the name (also ingredients) so no one who can read should be confused.
If I hadn't heard of it and saw "cauliflower rice" on a menu, I would assume it was rice with cauliflower in it (like garlic rice), not pure cauliflower in rice-like form
