The article doesn't say anything really ... nor does it source anything else. It's the CBC, so I'm hoping this isn't them making a mistake.

Google is expected to announce the launch of its Play Music all-access streaming service in Canada on the eve of this year's Canadian Music Week, the annual summit, concert showcase extravaganza and music business conference focusing on the music industry.

Coming about a year following a major launch in the U.S. as well as in Europe and Mexico, the expanded Google Play Music streaming and subscription service is being touted as a potential game-changer to how consumers listen to music digitally.

Took long enough FFS.

Awesome. I've been very happy with Rdio and love the mobile app, but definitely will check this out asap.

I haven't really bothered to check the other options available -- I was always on the fence about getting Rdio but ... I only have 500mb on my phone and until recently, only had 60gb of data for Internet (now I have 300 w/ Teksavvy).

Do these services have a large music selection or is it limited?

large selection.

you can also "pin" and save tracks/playlists/albums to your phone

you also get to use the google play music cloud backup which syncs your music library at home (u can do this for free)

IT'S TRUE!

I just went to All Access Music for google and I was given the option to try it free for a month. $7.99 CDN/month intro fee.

CBC link is broken... :(

edit: All Access is there, but I still can't buy music off Google Play. :(

Play Music All Access works, I signed up for the free trial.

I actually wouldn't mind using this at work. Useful.

Do All-Access have any discounts? I'm using spotify because of the student discount but I'm interested in All-Access because I have chromecast set up all over my house.

So do you always have to be connected to the internet/data or does it store songs locally on your device after you've streamed them a number of times?

Pretty sure it caches everything you play, so after the first play of a song you won't need to stream it anymore (as long as you still have free storage space on your phone, of course). You can also choose to manually save stuff offline in advance (when connected to your home Wi-Fi or such) so you don't have to stream anything at all. At least that's how it works with music you've uploaded yourself, think it's the same with All-Access.

Holy shit, finally.

I gave up even looking up news for this

Anyone know if you can use multiple devices simultaneously?

Yes and no. Not officially, and if you're using official apps on both devices, it'll tell you on one of them that you're already listening on another device. Though if you use a secondary app, you may be able to. I haven't used those apps since the official app came out, but they seemed to still work when I was listening via an official app on another device.

Thanks,

Not a deal breaker, but mostly if my wife is using it her car while I am using it as well

I'm more excited that I can upload all the damn CD's in my basement so I don't get wife aggro when I give them away

I wonder how this will affect possible Spotify subscriptions when they finally get their shit figured out for Canada.

Google doing this today just cost Spotify their subscription from me, and I wonder if other people will be doing the same.

It's working already. I haven't heard of Stars before but I like what I've heard from the previous, will download.

lol begins well for me

Tried to use "explore" and got connection error
Cleared cache...same error

Cleared data, rerun app, chose my account and get the promotion splash screen. If I choose try All Access it says I already have a subscription but I cannot get past the splash screen.

I can get in with User standard but I obviously lose the All Access features and if I cancel I will lose my free month

...arg!!

Well, the site is getting hammered, so I assume the same is happening for the service, maybe give it an hour

That's what I should have done in the first place lol

now I think I am going to have to figure out how to contact google support or lost my 30 days

So how many of you think that rdio's playlist function is much better than Google Music so far? I can't believe how many mouse clicks I need to add songs...

I don't remember how it works on computer right now, but I'm pretty sure you can drag songs. Otherwise it's click song menu, select add to playlist, select playlist and it's done. Right? How does Rdio work?

So when I sync this up with my iTunes library, is it actually going to upload 40 gigs worth of music, or does it just see that I own them and allow me to download them from their servers?

I love this service. The best value for subscription money I've personally spent in a long time. Glad it's spreading outside of the US.

Will need to have better library and UI than Rdio for me to consider switching. Seriously, Rdio's web version is the bomb. Free access to everything and you don't need to pay. The mobile version was neat but I didn't like it enough to subscribe.

It caches them, but if I recall it only caches so much in order to keep from sucking up all of your phones hard storage. If you want something available online, 'Pin' it to your device by clicking the thumbtack icon:

It has matching. It also has a web browser interface now where you can drag folders into a browser window to upload everything via your browser (This works in Chrome, not sure about others).

Just make sure your music is tagged right.

Just a reminder that when using music manager to upload stuff, it is not syncing. If you make changes to tags or anything or delete anything locally you'll need to make changes yourself in google play music. So make sure your tags are right before uploading.

You can make a playlist with all music in itunes and then when it uploads pin the playlist to download everything on your phone.

I can add songs directly from the playlist window and there's a search bar built in.

For example, if I typed in Fever Black Keys from my playlist, I can click on the song and it's automatically loaded in. For Google Play and other services, I'd have to search with the main bar, click on the three little dots (or into the actual song) then select add to playlist.

It also links quite well with Shazam too.

Its a difference in function, but you are vastly overstating the gulf in 'difficulty' (if you can even call it that). In both cases you just type your song into the already displayed bar, your song shows up. In GP you don't have to click the 3 dots, just right click the song or album and you can add it to any playlist. You only have to use the 3 dots on the mobile app.

I would hardly call that a huge difference at all. And Google Now and GSearch have song finding abilities through the phone linked with Play Music as well. Tap the microphone and it will ID the song playing with a link to Play Music.

I really don't see a gulf in performance or features at all really. Just an ever shrinking difference in library.

As a big Rdio fan, I guess I'll share my opinion later also fan when I get home and play around with this.
