Celine v Whitney - Who's the best?

Celine Dion but this is a close tie

That is EASILY my favorite Celine Dion song, and with good reason. It was written by the same guy who wrote Meat Loaf's first and second Bat Out of Hell albums. That's why it has an epic theatrical touch that the rest of her songs generally do not. Here's the original version:

All that said, I still have to give it to Whitney.

My fav Dion song too. The Meatloaf version is awful. Some duet with another singer.

Why would it even be about singing voices when:

1. The OP never stated anything about voices
2. The videos posted aren't even ones where either singer is trying to prove their best voices reaching peak performance?

The Whitney video is a cheery party song.

Both great. Cant really pick a winner here as they both posses a personal voice thats hard to compare to anyone else. Laura Brannigan imo had even more a unique sound. Too bad she died so young. Also Celine really ripping at her loudest is just phenomenal.

I prefer Whitney, but I wouldn't say she's better. They are both incredible singers with amazing range and power. Both are great, I just prefer Whitney's music more.

Has to be Whitney. I like my rock stars to be depraved, screaming, out of control junkies. You know what you get when your rock star isn't causing mayhem every night on a cocktail of drugs? This -

Did you know that Whitney Houston's debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston had 4 number one singles on it? It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

She didn't write her own music. She was a popular performer.

Celine v Whitney - Who's the best?

Didn't say about singing only.

Whitney is the best African American and Celine is the best Anglo-French Caucasian.

Can we at least agree on that?

Also Whitney has the best husband in terms of celeb gossip and recognition and Celine the best in terms of low profile and anonymity.

I also think Whitney is the best movie actress and Celine the best restaurant owner.

Vocal talent this is easily Whitney. She’s untouchable in that regard. Mariah Carey also beats Celine.

For overall entertainment OG Madonna still reigns supreme and will likely never be bettered.

Obviously Tina If Dolly did it better then why NOBODY sings her version on X Factor or The Voice? Without Whitney that song would've been forgotten many years ago or would be famous only among some country fans. Every serious vocalist sings Houston's version! I love Whitney's songs ''How will I know'', '' I wanna dance with somebody'', ''Queen of the night'', '' I have nothing'', ''I'm your baby tonight'', ''All the man that I need'', ''Where do broken hearts go''... Excuse me but if someone pays to you to waste your time since 2007??? Or you just have not a private and social life? Just a question!

I mostly know of Whitney through that Dolly Parton cover, and Dolly did it better. Not a huge fan of Celine either, but I do like some of her French songs (actually I’m a fan of Goldman who wrote them for her)
So Celine wins.

I don't like either's music but I can appreciate Whitney's voice. Cannot stand the sound of Dion.
You don't like amazing danceable songs like '' Queen of the night'', ''I wanna dance with somebody'', ''How will I know'', ''I'm your baby tonight'' or ballads like ''All the man that I need'', ''I have nothing''...???

I find it a TRIP when a thread is about vocal talent folks will go into rants about age, drug use, husband's, etc.

Celine Dion has a great voice and has range better than 90% of most female singers out there right now (the known ones)... But Whitney Houston was FAR AND AWAY her superior! In range, volume, bass, etc. Not even Mariah Carey came close! I think some of the FEW who were in that 10% league were/are Jennifer Hudson, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Janelle Monae...

Whitney's superiors are/were Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, Patty LaBelle...

That's insanely odd. How old are you?

Have no idea what age has got to do with it. I listen to a wide range of genres, and all kinds of music, from the early 1900s to present. As I said, I can appreciate and respect Whitney's undeniable talent but her music is so far removed from what I enjoy to listen to and I have no idea what is so difficult to understand about that.

Well you go into rants about race because when someone says she seems trashy to him, it has to be because he has something against "successful, beloved black women".

Bobby brown. They did a show about it as they were broke and addicted to meth or crack. Was on television. He talked about picking nuggets out her ass due to the use of drugs. That happens from malnutrition. Husband (Bobby) was on TV with her laughing. Their reality show.

They seriously showed that on TV.

Her performance here was a massive flop. She couldn't sing. Girlfriend worked the gig. American national anthem, only Meat-Loaf was worse. Grew up loving both. Was on TV, never saw either live. Got the sweaty t-shirt as she called to me after gigs.

A massive loss to music.

I don't get anything the paragraph other than that she sucked singing the american anthem, sorry.

Whitney absolutely slays. And that says a lot, because Celine is pretty amazing in her own right. But peak-Whitney was a force of nature. That voice...so fucking amazing. Goddamn you Bobby!

For Whitney. She worked backstage and crew for kitchen, I always asked her the gig ways as they can watch side-stage.

You feed a crew, you win them.
