Chaos Field to be ported to DC this Dec...

I like the idea of playing NAOMI games on Naomi/DC hardware myself. Here's hoping G.Rev's upcoming NAOMI shooter is DC-bound too.

So this means I've heard conflicting reports -
I thought I read somewhere that this game has no stages/levels and has nothing but boss battles, but the NCS blurb made it sound more like a traditional shooter. What's the deal?

Interesting thought. As I've only looked at screens and haven't really read any info, I haven't managed to figure out why enemies and bullets are sorely lacking in most screens, and was kinda thinking it might be something like Change Air Blade.

Then again, the shots on NCS are new to me and look normal. I don't get it. :(

I either hope you're using the term "shooter" very loosely or that I misinterpreted the first screens of it. Looks like Simple 2000: Omega Boost to me.

Sure, but why not squeeze out a GC port too? Thanks to similar architectures and toolsets, it's suppossed to be astoundingly simple and there's always the chance your game might get picked up for western release (like Ikaruga).

Despite the easy porting, I don't really see the point. If you're going to port a shooter to another format, I'd assume that PS2 is the smart choice. I mean... a shooter fan is guaranteed to have a PS2 -- modded and ready to go if he isn't already in Japan -- due to the overwhelming majority of shooters it has compared to the other two formats.

Ikaruga got lucky because it was the sequel to RSG, by Treasure and it struck pure hype gold. Chaos Field will not reach this status in a million years, and as such will probably have a much harder time selling on GC than it would on PS2. All guesswork, though.

Not that I care much, personally, I'm somewhat with Tsubaki on this one.

Sure, but any PS2 porting would require significant resources in comparison. GC porting from Naomi is on par with DC porting pretty much from what I understand... seems like such a simple move I'm surprised more companies haven't done it (so far only Treasure, Alfa System and Triangle Service).

Yes. I do see your point -- it's not that, it's just... Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, you know?

And by the way, what did Triangle Service do on NAOMI/GC? I'm only aware of XII Stag by them, and with that in mind I can't believe I'm actually interested in hearing what else they've done.

Sorry, I meant Able Corperation... dunno why I said TS. :)

Last I heard, Ikaruga wasn't a perfect port. But... I wish that the Dreamcast version had the chain counter on-screen like the GC version rather than the VMU.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Having never heard of the game before, this thread prompted me to take a stoll over to system16.com

I never knew there were so many never-released-outside-Japan Naomi games out there, including a upgrade for HotD2 and some other sh!t.

I played this in Japan. Was kind of interesting but I wasn't sure about the full mechanics of it (only played it like once or twice).

So uh were there nothing but boss battles? Or were there actual stages prefacing the encounters? :)

If subscription to Arcadia wasn't $90 annually in the US (through a bookstore) I'd probably at least have some other screen shots to go on. I'm not up-to-date. The single movie I found from some random site didn't help either; it shown only what seemed to be boss fights.

mushihime-sama is naomi? really? i assumed it'd be on the same hardware as daioujou and espgaluda. i wonder if we'll see a dreamcast port.

edit: wait, if it's on naomi, does that mean it'll use the dreamcast's HIDEOS scaled low res display? :X doesn't sound right.
