It's hard for me to properly critique the modern XCOM. I can understand a lot of the decisions they made and I had a lot of fun with it my first few runs. The replay value just isn't there. Too many systems are as linear as can be.Unfortunately, XCOM is the name people know. While I really like the remake, I miss simulation aspects from the original and I'd love to see Gollop return to the series. Or a spiritual successor or whatever.
I STILL BACKED CHAOS REBORN THO
Here's a unicorn.
If you have backed the game at 'God' level our art team will work with you to create a 3D avatar of your god head. It can be based on your own likeness, or you can create something entirely fantastical, such as a lovecraftian tentacled thing, as long as it is representative of a head (this is a special feature for backers only, otherwise known as the old gods, and other players who ascend to godhood through game play will be restricted to a selection of generic choices for their god avatar). Your avatar will then appear on shrines which are placed in battle arenas. Our artist Borus has created a hypothetical example of a player who is a god of Law and has an avatar closely based on his own image.
I'm getting the feeling that several people are turned off by the randomness. How come that no one seems to be paying attention to this?

Voted. Thanks for the heads up.I'm getting the felling that several people are turned off by the randomness.
I come form games like UFO or also Baldur's Gate (with the weapon attacks missing all the time), where randomness was a natural part of the design, so I'm perfectly fine with it. But modern game design marginalized randomness, so newer generations of gamers may be skeptical about a game so heavily based on it.
I can be wrong of course.
Edit
Game has been also put on Steam Greenlight (this info maybe should be added to the OP)

so people who don't wan't to fund but are still curios, can at least vote for its publication.
Great interview. I've always praised the lighting in the original X-Com, but that Geoscape was something special as well.David Jenkins from Games Central has posted a pretty interesting interview with Julian Gollop.

They cover all sorts of ground from the history of Chaos, kickstarter in general and design of turn-based games in a modern age.
He made a few new fans with Shadow Wars. I never bought a 3DS, but nearly did just for that game. And I realised at that point that theres still a way to go in this genre to make turn-based games that are really appealing. And the reaction that we got to Shadow Wars, from the people that bought it, was almost universally favourable. Apart from the storyline and characters, but we didnt have much control over that!
New update is out for backers... Anyone?
It's a link to an early playable version of the game. Honestly he should release it to non backers to try and convince more people to get behind it.
EDIT: It says it'll be made available next week after he's sure it's working ok.
I know. I was asking if anyone was up for a match (4-players maybe). lol
New thread for new news!Now the prototype is open for all;

Go and try it people. If you like it back it. Remember the intention is to have more content than you see here. SP campaign, RPG elements etc.
Just try it. If you enjoy turn based strategy you can't go wrong.
- Selecting a movement destination shows a movement arrow with attack lines to potential enemy targets. Clicking again on the destination confirms the move, or you can select another destination. There is no undo move any more.
- There is a range guide displayed for creatures with ranged combat and wizards with magic bolts.
- A mount will now not be able to move in the turn a wizard mounts it.
- Combat bonuses/penalties for elevation in close combat increased.
- Unicorn charge bonus only obtained if distance between start position and enemy position is two or greater.
- You can spectate a game which is in progress.
- There is a link to Ped209s tournament site from the login screen.
- The client/server networking infrastructure has been completely rewritten. The unresponsive lobby buttons should now be fixed. There may, however, be other problems with this new networking system since it has not been rigorously tested yet.
