Racists carrying a torch for the image of a traitorous loser seems like the perfect summation of America in 2017 to me.

yeah where's the standard procedure of pushing his head into the sidewalk. It's right there! These cops might get put on desk duty for not following protocol :/

No, there are some major amendments to that protocol:
Is the suspect:
( ) Black or Brown (use supplied colour chart to see if applies)
( ) Hippie
( ) Eco Protestor
( ) Feminist*
( ) All of the above**

In case one or more of these boxxes apply, then apply the standard procedure, otherwise be careful.
* Feminist, if hot, should be sexually assaulted otherwise just sexually harassed.
** In case of all of the above, please apply extreme force and consider the target the worst human alive!

Yes, there is a large counter protest ffs. Counter protesters outnumbered the alt-right groups.

I was actually in Charlottesville during the last KKK protest they held about a month ago (during a tradition the school has called "midsummers"). In that case, too, I think I remember the counter protesters easily outnumbered the protesters.

I'm not going to sit here and say that the city doesn't have a racism problem. But, I think you'll find the entire United States has a racism problem. There are racists everywhere in every city, and some complex combination of social factors (a major one being Bannon's position of power in the White House, and another being Trump's condemnation lites of hatred) drives groups to gather and form these rallies we're seeing.

The school certainly has diversity issues. I never felt quite at home going to school there not being from a white upper class family. Couldn't afford the clothes my peers did, didn't attend private or high end public schools from the same areas, and so on. And yeah, I found that many times, people were really insensitive and would crack stupid jokes about people and things they couldn't understand and didn't grow up around.

But that's different from going full Richard Spencer and going full white nationalist. You never go full white nationalist.

Here's what I don't get and I mean this in the most respectful way possible: POC with MAGA hats, bumper stickers and wallpapers. Something I've noticed in California. Seemingly really nice people too.

Brainwashed I guess?

Edit - Already posted.

What a confusing president we have. I could swear he was just making jokes about police brutality.

This will never, ever not be funny

Am I the only one who doesn't care if they're called "white nationalists"? They're racist-ass white people who want other races gone from the country. I don't know who they think they're fooling if that's supposed to a PR-friendly term.

And Neo-Nazis are like a subgroup of white supremacists. Would you call a Klansman a Neo-Nazi even though the KKK was founded well before the original Nazis? I'm not gonna split hairs and I've certainly used 'Nazi' as a shorthand for all white supremacist/white nationalist types, but I don't think the media is in the wrong for using a broader term to cover the entire range of racist hate groups present. They're not trying to pretend it's a rally in support of southern heritage or whatever (at least the media I pay attention to isn't, lol.)
Eh. I am having this debate with a friend right now. He seems to strongly object to calling all of these people nazis. "Some are, but not all", and apparently that's an important distinction to make because reasons ("understanding their motivations to better oppose them" or some such).

Personally, I couldn't care less. Perhaps the lady at the back in the pic below isn't technically a nazi and just a run-of-the-mill white supremacist, but she's perfectly happy marching right behind a dude waving a nazi flag, so who the fuck cares about the distinction? One wants to gas Jews, the other doesn't but is OK with people who do? Pah.

No, they are saying "Why won't you angry minorities let these white supremacists rally in peace?"

Basically. By saying the "hate" is on both sides today, it's suggesting that armed neo-nazis marching down the streets of American cities "wouldn't be a problem if those pesky counter-protestors just shut up and stayed home. Can't we all just get along and respect free speech?"

Is this a subtle way of suggesting we come together as one and storm Mar a Largo to condemn the hate within?
gross i don't want to go there

Source please. Sorry man, I need this before I start cackling.
He was not arrested he was briefly detained by the MILITARIZED POLICE and today is a great day and victory for him. My source being a video he posted on his twitter account an hour ago.

We came in peace. It was the government and antifa that used force against peaceful, lawful demonstrators.

Are you familiar with the concept of "The Good One(s)"?

Basically POC that are willing to shit on their own identities and communities if it means they'll be accepted by white people.

One of the few funny aspects of this whole embarrassing parade of backward, dangerous, abhorrent people is that Cahtlottesville is a liberal pocket of resistance in very red territory. They couldn't have picked a worse place to 'rally the cause' for miles.

exactly. It's a disgraceful response. Would be shocking if it was anyone besides Trump n co.

Antifa, BLM, and counter protestors all had a good showing.

What an age we live in where Antifa covers their face and the white nationalists no longer hide behind Klan robes.

Yeah, that KKK that had around 50 people was likely almost entirely people from the rural areas surrounding the city (and I'm sure some Charlottesville people as well). This current nazi march isn't a rally of locals, this is people coming from numerous states looking for a fight due to Charlottesville being a city that is opting to tear down their confederate statues.

You mistake their intentions and goals.

I'm not seeing a large counterprotest, so I think I'm gonna keep on knocking the whole city.

Also, just said on CNN: Last month when the KKK protested in Charlottesville, there were fifty KKK protesters versus one thousand counter protesters.

Really, I would suggest reserving the speed of your judgments a teensy bit for complicated matters like this. Maybe also expand your set of criteria beyond a few videos of protests and the name of a city in Virginia for what constitutes a "racist city."

That's really depressing :( thanks for clearing that up though. I'll just be chillin and see a phone wallapaper like M.A.G.A. and I'm like "dude.. you're a white supremacist and you aren't .. white... why would you do this.. MAGA is bad."

Of course I don't say this but I really want to :/

Fair enough. My bad. I didn't see the whole picture, only the nazis. I did more digging (ugh) and realize there's a great show of support against these fuckers

Indeed. The point isn't that these are all just stereotypical rural KKK folks or militia members living off the grid. Neo-nazis like the ones seen in Charlottesville exist in every major "liberal" city in America, from coast to coast and every state in between.

Many of these people are ivy league educated, come from wealthy liberal families in wealthy liberal cities, dress well and can correctly identify expensive wines. Vocal white supremacy isn't isolated to those living in rural poverty.

Never thought i'd see the day where Donald J. Trump would tweet some vague tip-toey bullshit. This being the same man who has called out people on every form of media known to man. This is such a pussy tweet that i'm surprised Trump isn't clawing at his phone screen right now trying to grab it.

Definition of irony. Dude in nazi Rally having a symbol of the London Underground on his nazi looking helmet....the very place most Londoners went while the Nazi's bombed the shit out of london and killed lots of white people.

yea dude, it's all good... The thing is, probably most people watching the news today are from now on going to have this simplified view of Charlottesville now. Though, that's not actually in any way even remotely as severe of an issue as racists coming out of the woodwork and feeling empowered to do shit like this.
