Cheap/Good Ipod deals

Wait til December

A recent post from an anonymous source at iPodlounge claims that the previously rumored Flash-memory based iPod due by Christmas will have controller chips provided by SigmaTel. If true, these new iPods are expected to be out by the Christmas shopping season of 2004, adding a possible $99 price point to the iPod family.

These rumors come in addition to others about a possible new 60 GB color-screened iPod capable of showing a photo slideshow of synced or downloaded photos. Pricing for the color 60 GB model is expected to be set at the previous-generation high point of $499.

remember the mini 1-2gb rumor that started late last year.

That came to pass, but it wasn't $99 (as the rumor predicted)

Yeah this "flash memory" Ipod might lead somewhere, but I have a feeling it'll be like 256mB like all the other lower priced MP3 players out there.

I agree the mini should drop to $99 :(

But Apple's already selling them as quickly as they make them, they can't meet the supply if it's $99. Apple keep a tight grip on the prices of its products though. Apart from the refurbished stuff, the last gen stuff that's still left, education discounts or special promotions from Apple like iBook+iPod deal, I doubt you can find any significant discounts at retailers for Macs or iPod.
