The first detailed genetic comparison between humans and chimpanzees shows that 96 per cent of the DNA sequence is identical in the two species. But there are significant differences, particularly in genes relating to sexual reproduction, brain development, immunity and the sense of smell.

.
The preliminary evidence suggests that the outstanding size and complexity of the human brain owes less to the evolution of new human genes than to the different way existing genes produce proteins as the human brain grows in the foetus and during infancy.

Pigs and humans still have the most similar chromosomes. Booyaa!

I don't know what timewarp you found that link in (I got tired of waiting for it to load) but I'm currently reading Jared Diamond's (Guns, Germs, and Steel) book The Third Chimpanzee written in 1992, and he puts the DNA similarity between humans and chimpanzees at 98.4%.

The good news: compared to chimpanzees and gorillas, humans have
proportionately gigantic penises.

Where the hell did you get that idea from?

Anyone who's even taken a cursory course that discussed the brain would realize that. Every higher order mammal has a very similar brain structure, the human's is just bigger and more complex (and grows a bit bigger with every successive generation).

Our cerebrum is absolutely massive in comparison to other mammals, but the neanderthals had even larger skulls. Perhaps they ran into the diminishing returns one gets when you consider that at birth you gotta push that skull out. ;)
