China: Another massive explosion in industrial city in Lijin

As an anecdotal example, we would have Chinese PhD student that came to my university to study chemical engineering that would stick their heads into the fume hoods and expose their faces to toxic chemicals

Jesus fuck this would get you kicked out of the lab instantly at my university, and likely a failing grade on the spot.

What in the flying fuck ... That's 200 people/day on average.

China is a trainwreck. Not only are they fucking the environment but they're crushing their own people in the process. All in the name of economic growth. When will it end ?

"People" are their most plentiful resource, unfortunately. Super depressing to think about, but it's quite obvious the people with the power do not care.

Depressing.

What if this is a wave of facilities built at around the same time with a critical defect falling into disrepair en masse? Some conspiracy theorists should look into that.

Today's explosion is also the SECOND blast to occur in Shandong, after a previous one injured eight people just over a week ago.

Wtf at this being the second explosion in Shandong alone. This means there have been 3 explosion incidents in 19 days.

Aug 12 Tianjin
Aug 22 Shandong
Aug 31 Shandong

Never. It's basically impossible at this point. The entire country has an unsafe infrastructure the only thing you can do is pray that things like this don't happen more often.

Shit literally happens when you try to cram 2 centuries of Western industrialization into a few decades. It's a shame that so many people are dying because of it.

I wonder if these things are being torched intentionally. With the Chinese economy being in the shitter, maybe the owners are just cutting and running and 'fuck everybody else'.

Some kind of Yellow gas or something is/was reportedly leaking from the scene after the explosion

Right - I'd agree, but China isn't exactly a hotbed of upright behavior or creativity, ya know?

Damn, I wasn't aware of the corruption level in China, haven't really researched them much, but they are on the list after the middle east. but it seems that china manifests the worst of the industrial world that demand has brought them to. Can't keep all those prices low with all that red tape in the way...

it would seem.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
It feels like China is really failing its people by not controlling its industrial growth with a little more care. This year so far, exploding city blocks and industrial complexes, a couple of years back was a rash of suicides and death by overworking.

An interesting aspect of all of this is that if you listen to some politicians' rhetoric in the current presidential primaries here in the United States, you here talks about making America competitive with China and I have no doubt pesky things like regulation and safety laws will be first on the chopping block followed by the endless supplies of easily replicable working poor. It sure would be nice if we can learn from our neighbors in the present in a way that that doesn't involve us beating them at their own mistakes.

DISCLAIMER: Before someone attempts to call me out on my superiority complex; it isn't. Trust me, I know US "certainly isn't some angel."
