Nah, under the vast majority of scenarios, China will lose more than they gain from that kind of play. It would only happen if they want to hurt Trump, and that in turn will only happen if Trump has made himself out to be an enemy.

And the short term. And the medium term. Leveraging anything he can get his hands on for personal gain is one of the only things he is consistent on. That and sucking Putin's balls.
This kind of bone to Trump is barely worth anything to a country like China, so they're going to honor the trademark unless they're feeling extraordinarily vindictive. Rest assured though that Trump will get his comeuppance - he already hates his life as President.
The issue wasn't that he was friendly with Taiwan, it was that he suddenly ended a decades-long foreign policy stance seemingly at random with no insight or advice. This was BEFORE he was president even.
Man it's been a long few months.
Arms sales are part of the detente we have with china, it is an accepted part of our relationship. If the admin threatens that relationship, there should be a broader strategic or geopolitical concession in mind. Not fucking trademarks for trump co.

But imagine... What if while you were gone China, your good buddy who you said could borrow the game as soon as you could beat it, had been behind the couch waiting, and as soon as your kid brother died they put in the Konami Code and let him use player 2's controller (unplugged) the whole time you were gone, and they managed to get you even futher than when you left off... Then they sneak out *right* as you come back to the game, when you snatch the controller back, using your free hand to issue a resounding smack to the back of your brother's head- which no one could see you do because mom was busy outside having a smoke and yelling at the neighbor kid to quit jumping over the fence and coming into your yard to look forjobs his ball.
Win-win, right? You and China get everything you wanted, and your stupid brother never knew he was getting duped coz he felt smart, despite never even playing for himself.

I don't doubt a conventional politician, like Hillary, would have been able to navigate these kinds of political/financial issues, like how Hillary has done enough to separate herself from the Clinton foundation, and that those donations were not so important to her that she would make them a focus. I also assume a conventional politician would put more importance into international relations than their private business interests, and that they would also seek to avoid direct conflict with China.
Having said that... Trump making "deals" in order to get a trade-mark from China, or simply the fact he failed to rid himself of conflicts, or a willingness on Trump's part to become an enemy of China -that's all on the table.
Trump has made no effort to do anything legally. He tweets "buy L.L. Bean," is willing to write unconstitutional executive orders, wants to rip up agreements, threatens judges by name, it goes on.
I do not like that Trump has left himself exposed like this.
Didn't stop the GOP in the '90s from going after Bill Clinton for lying under oath and getting a BJ in the White House.
Problem is the modern GOP really don't care.

There is no legal barrier for what is or is not impeachable. Impeachment is not a criminal charge, it's a political process. It's 100% at Congress' discretion what warrants impeachment. There is no trial or burden of proof, there's only a vote.

I think the idea is that Trump was basically using diplomacy to leverage personal gain.
Instead of pretending to be against One China to get a better deal for America, which may be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask, this story suggests he did it just to benefit himself, which I think we can all agree was both a reckless AND selfish move.

Using the diplomatic levers of government and threatinging international incident for the personal enrichment of the president is bad yes?
Almost as if the method of doing so and the reason for doing so has some bearing on how people perceive the actions. Shocking, huh?
